Was looking into getting a pass through for my 510, and noticed one retailer has 2 types. The original battery PS, and a direct PS at 5v.

I'm currently still refilling and using carts, would the direct PS at 5v shorten the life of my atty's, anymore than a standard 3.7v using carts and not dripping?

Also about how long does the battery last in the normal PS?

Just so you're talking the same language the abbreviation for passthrough is PT.

If you would have asked me a week ago, I would have said, no problems with attys on the 5 volt - I thought it was mainly 6V and above where the problem was, but I took out two attys on a 5 volt this week by simply not paying attention and hanging on the button too long. I'm so used to not having to worry about that on the Bartleby, Protege and Chameleon mods at 3.7/4.2peak. But the 510 on a 5 volt as scubabatdan and others have pointed out, really tweaks the wattage and you really have to pay more attention than I did this week OR... run 901's and cartomizers on them as I'm doing presently ;-)

It's my opinion and perhaps only mine, lol, that the trade off with voltage and resistance of the various atomizers, is a wash. I can get as much vapor, flavor and throat hit with the 510 at 3.7 with a mod batt as I can using 5 volt with the 901. And I don't think that the 5 volt passthrough is a big advantage. Again, this is just my opinion - I have had the Protege PT for longer than the 5 volt Bartleby and had no problem but you're very aware that you're on 5 volt with that cable ;-)

That said, if you've only had a regular ecig batt or even a mega and then got a 5 volt, you'd see a big difference in vapor, but only if you haven't experienced a 510 with a mod batt that holds peak voltage.

As far as how long a PT battery lasts? Ymmv, but of the 510 PT's that I had going for 6 months I never lost a batt in them. The biggest complaint from others is that they just stopped working entirely rather than the battery not lasting. But, despite those reports, there are many here that have their original PTs and they've had them for quite a while. As far as power goes put them on a 1 amp plug, rather than the computer.
