I have a USB Passthrough for my 510 that suddenly stopped working today. Prior to that it seemed weak at times. I pulled the battery out and put it back in and it worked for one hit and died again.

Could this be the battery and if so, is it the same as a rechargeable AAA battery or is there something special about it?

Why does this thing have a battery in the first place?

The ones that don't have battery require a high powered USB port to vape well. USB from a computer gives us a not so vape tastic 500mah but our atomisers want 1000 mah. The way round it is a mains USB adapter with 1000mah output such as the ipod battery charger or a Kensington USB battery pack! With the handy 510 passthrough any USB port will do even the low powered laptop ones!

tribalmasters: when my ipod charger quit working right(i never used it for my ipod anyways), I found a charger for something in my junk box-i cut the usb end off my usb passthru -cut the end off that charger and spliced(?) them together-works great-just plug it into the wall (and the cord is longer now since its the length of both spliced together.) the charger said 5v output-2000ma. Yeah, I think it does work better than plugging into the usb port on my pc.

The battery regulates the voltage so you don't blow your USB ports out and also if the battery wasn't inline when you unplugged the device it wouldn't hold a charge therefore it would no longer work after you unplugged it so it serves some kind of a dual purpose.

The Joye-510 passthrough is a piece of junk, pure and simple. The amount of power it draws is so low it could not hurt a USB port. A real passthrough doesn't need a battery. Most users I have heard comment do not like the Joye-510 passthrough. It just doesn't supply enough power to perform properly.

I bought an 801 PT from goodprophets that works every time without any issues. Give Rob an e-mail. He responds within a few minutes most days.
I don't work for him, but he's never disappointed me.

I got an 801 PT and it worked good for a couple of weeks then it quit so I didn't save any money on batteries.:(

I have a dse103 PT that seems to work fine when plugged into my laptops usb port. I purchased a wall usb outlet that doen't seem to power the PT, it is rated at 5v, 500mamp. is that not enough power? I also have the 510PT with the inline battery and it works fine in both the laptop usb and the ac, usb port. what can be wrong? Any help would be appreciated. thanks!

500 ma is not enough... You need over 1 amp at 5 volts to just equal a 3.7 volt batt as it can put out more amps..

The 510 PT works on the 500ma wall USB because it is using the battery to make up for the lack of power from the wall USB, then slowly charging when you are not taking a drag. On your 103 without that batt it getting only 500 ma which is why you find its not working...
