Just bought a USB passthrough and it Rocks! Was able to have 2 full batteries charged for a long day out yesterday! What a great invention!
Everytime I seen smokers outside of stores and such would pause there with them and vape a couple of hits! Several asked me what it was so I explained and a couple of others seemed to have heard of them and wanted to know if it worked! Just trying to spread the word without being preachy! If it brings 1 person around then it's worth every minute!

Good to hear. For some reason I'm self-conscious about this. I feel like I'm trying to show off when I vape in front of smokers.

I can see your point! I suppose I am showing off a little but after a 30 year habit and having control of it for once in my life it's ok and if theres a chance someone else follows the example it's all good! Nothing to loose and everything to gain!

Can you explain the passthrough for me? Thanks!

From what I understand, there are two 'types' of PT - one is a 5v device you plug into a powered USB port (must meet power specs, or could fry a motherboard) and the other (like mine) - an eGo PT with inline battery. The eGo PT I have, is just a standard eGo 650mah battery with a USB port at the bottom (opposite end of the battery/atomizer connection). It charges WHILE you use it. Great for use with a USB car cig lighter adapter as well, for long drives without draining your battery.

i have a PT. it plugs directly into my usb port and runs 5v. It is what got me started on 5v e-cigs and mods. Warning once you go 5v you might not want to go back to 3.7!!

I know what you mean 5v is just so much better I couldn't put it down when first got my kit Mon. of this week I had to though I've already been through all the cartos that came with my kit from using it so much I've got one left that's about done for then I'm stuck waiting on my juice to get here so I can fill my blanks. It sucks to I was almost smoke free to oh well that's going be to out the window this weekend luckily my juice should be here Mon.

I'm with you! Just started Monday 12/6/10 with 3 USB passthroughs, 1 at home & 1 at work with A/C adapters plus one in car with 12V adapter. Works well! But, someday I'll have to try batteries....

Please think long & hard before using your computers USB port for operating a passthrough. They draw quite a bit of current. Why would you want to risk blowing your motherboard for the cost of less than $20 for an A/C adapter???

As floridamale indicated, get 2 AMP adapters, no less. I believe in being safe rather than sorry.

There is a chance you will blow your motherboard using a USB pass-through? This I didn't know. Would the risk increase the more you use it? I am not a massive vaper at home, I tend to do all my chain vaping down the pub! :)

I can not say that you will blow your motherboard for sure. I haven't seen many reports of this happening. But, if there is a possibility of that happening, I, myself, would rather avoid it. That's why I say 'better safe than sorry'.

My caution comes from this notice on a vendors site:

myPVshop.com Electronic Cigarettes

Kind of makes sense, at least to me, due to the fact that the USB ports were never supposed to output the current required to operate a passthrough. As far as risk increasing with more use, I would think that is possible. Those runs on the motherboard are rather tiny. If they overheat many times, the effect could be cumulative.

I certainly don't mean that everyone should stop using their computers USB port, just wanted to throw the idea out there so we each could give it some thought and consider the potential risk.

I have gotten a warning that my USB hub was drawing too much power to safely run the device connected to it. My mother board automatically shuts down that hub until I unplug the device and reset the USB hub. Just a fair warning you can buy an 110v / 2amp powered hub for $10.00 and it plugs into the wall or maybe replace a PC.
