I've been kicking around building a PT (I spend a sick amount of time in front of a computer), currently I'm using an eGo batt/pt which I imagine (hope) is a 1000mah batt (or an 600mah using real world measurements) constantly being charged by the USB connection (I have it plugged into a USB hub with it's own PS). I would really be concerned with plugging directly into a USB connector onboard my computer, pwr'd by my computer's PS and run through the USB power bus on my mother board.

Here's my question, what are you guys using to power a pt with no internal batt to buffer?...that's a lot of current even for a good hub PS...

If this is a stupid question, feel free to virtually slap me...

That's what I mean, most mother boards worth their salt have a current limiter on the USB pwr bus set to 500ma max...the second you tap the fire button it'd just trip out, I also just looked at the plug-in ps running my 4 port USB hub is rated for 750ma...iffy at best.

I was reading somewhere how to turn an old ATX PS into a regulated bench PS for about $10 (more if you bling it up with meters and yadda yadda)...it showed where to toss a static/pot in series to vary the 12v+ bus...now that would be cool...a low end 300w ATX is $30 at most at joe blows computer store...tons of pwr...this has no doubt been done before on this forum???
