I have several of the cheap passthroughs and they are all unreliable crap. I even bought two PTs for 510 from different sites, both with the inline battery and neither one of them works. Do yourself a favor and don't get a cheapo unit.

I recently bought one called "VP" passthrough that became now my primary device. You can search the board for more info. There are several sellers -- I bought mine from dietsmokes (https://www.dietsmokes.com/products/VP-PT-(USB-Pass-THRU)-5Volt.html).

The power-adapter to plug into wall outlet is included, and that is how I use it. The nice thing about having the adapter is that you don't need to be near a computer or USB hub to use the passthrough. You just need to been near electrical plug, either wall or extension cord. The passthrough also comes with a custom stand/holder, but I haven't tried that yet.

I mainly wanted the PT as a reliable backup for times when I am out of charged batteries, but when I received it, I was really shocked how much a liked the vape when using with 510 attomizer (so far this is the only atty I tried). I have several mods/devices, and I like them all, but this thing became my main device at home.

There is a short review/thread I am planning to add my comments to:
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...-sweet-new-passthru-vaprlife-vp-passthru.html

The one thing I don't like about the PT is the LED, but it seems that I am in a minority. I never like LEDs on regular e-cig batteries either, while others don't mind. I guess that is just a personal preference.

Sar, the VP PT from Dietsmokes is on my shopping list...I recon you could just add a bit of that black shrink tubing if the LED isn't for you.

And yeah, like most here, I wouldn't put a PT anywhere near my lappys USB ports, wall adaptors and a USB extension cord will only cost a few quid.

Deschain, am not sure what you mean by black shrink tubing. Do you have a link to a place that sells this?

If there ever is version 2 of this PT, hopefully it will have only a narrow LED band. That would work great because you could easily cover it with your hand when you are vaping. Again, it is just a matter of personal preference. But having a narrow band would probably be the best compromise -- people that like LEDs will be happy and people that don't want any lights would be able to hide it.

But otherwise, this is the best PT I ever had.

Sar, I mean this sort of stuff...

Heat Shrink Tubing and Sleeving - UK Supplier

There is always loads of it on ebay. It basically shrinks around stuff when you heat it up with a heat gun (only takes a second or two, you won't be subjecting your PT to anything extreme). Just make sure you get the "non-adhesive" stuff so you don't get any gunk on that sweet lookin' PT.

Edit: I'm not really a LED fan myself, I have my battery reversed in my VP Spade...so no LEDs showing when I use it. :)

Things get confused becasue there are different types of PT's. Many if not most of the 510 PT's will have an in-line battery. That's because the 510 atty draws so much current (1.6A @ 3.7V and 2.2A @ 5V). If you have the PT with the in-line battery, then you don't have to worry about having a high-powered USB port or a wall-wart. The USB port only charges the in-line battery... using about 150mA.. well below the 500mA USB 2.0 spec.

If your PT doesn't have an in-line battery.. then keep it away from your PC. Use it with a wall-wart like an iPod charger or the like.. something that will put out AT LEAST 1.5A.. preferably more.

Thanks, I found that Amazon has a big selection of this stuff. After the holidays I have to find out if someone I know has a heat gun I could borrow.

But doesn't the battery have a finite number of charges? If it is being constantly charged, doesn't it mean that its life-time will be rather short? Also, if you are vaping faster than the battery can recharge, would you get cut off? I suspect that is what was happening to me.

One 510 PT I have is actually Joye brand, the other one is generic that looks the same and uses the same type of inline battery. Both are dead now. When they worked, they never worked consistently.

BTW, I tried connecting my VP passthrough to portable Kensington power bottery I have and the LED on the VP started to flash when I tried to vape. The Kensington is rated 5v, but am not sure what the amperage is.

A typical Li battery is going to be good for about 300 full charge cycles.. but substantially more partial charge cycles. I would expect a decent PT battery to last months.. if not longer.

The duty cycle on a PT battery is about 10%. That means that for every second of vaping, it needs ten seconds to recover. Or... one nice 6 second drag every minute. Few people consistently vape more than that. Remember.. a healthy in-line battery PT can give you solid vapes for over an hour when it is not even plugged in.

I second not actually plugging it into your computer.

You also have to make sure that your USB is providing enough power. The source should provide at least 1A. There are a lot of them out there that only supply 500mA-800mA.

A benefit of using a PT over batteries is constant voltage. Every hit is the same... when using batteries, the voltage (therefore the hit) decreases as the batteries weaken.

I have usb to wall adapter from two different manufactuers that will charge battery,s but will not power a pass through. Does anyone sell one that will power a passthrough?
