I don't think anyone has a 100% success rate with their builds especially RTAs. Don't beat yourself up and stick at it. Logically, the builds that were unsuccessful must have been different in some way, you just need to identify what.
Yeah, I'm sure it's the wicking.

I'm getting a cotton taste right now. It's not burning though.

Any of the Kayfun's, Russian or 91% are all easy builds that deliver excellent flavor and decent vapor production.
I started with the Russian 91%; quite simple two post fairly large Deck, easy fill, but not Top Fill, easy to wick.
You might want to give Rayon Wicking a try.

Cotton wicking can't be exact each time. How much do you cut? How? How do you roll it & draw through the coil.
If your goal is Exactly positively the same try Silica wick..

I put on my latex gloves, cut a 1 inch piece, roll it in my palms, pull off cotton if there's too much, roll again, feed it into the coil ( I use just enough so it fits with little resistance but not snug), trim so the wick touches the deck, fluff, and then go through the whole wet and fire stage to help get rid of the cotton taste (it tastes like a sweaty t shirt if I skip that step).
