User manual: Do not use your ProVari without an atomizer - How important is this?

Good afternoon vapers :laugh:

I have been in vaping heaven since getting the V2. Re-reading the user manual I came across the "Do not use your ProVari without an atomizer" line. I wonder how important is it?

Let me elaborate. I currently have tanks fitted with cartomizers of various resistances. I would use some at about 5.0V and some below 4.0V. Now, let's assume that I took of the higher resistance cartomizer and am about to use a low resistance one. Well, that means lowering the voltage. Using the 5 click of a button to access the menu fires the PV and heats the coils. So, in theory, I could well be overheating LR coils simply by getting to the menu to lower the voltage. Or am I? This is why I might like to adjust the voltage with no cartomizer/atomizer fitted.

So, my question really is, does the process of getting to the menu have any significance on possible overheating or do the short bursts make no difference? And secondly, does the same process of adjusting the voltage and hence firing the PV 5 times with no cartomizer fitted mean any possible damage to the unit?

Don't get me wrong, I have always managed to adjust it with no burning but I don't feel like damaging something unnecessarily. How do you guys go about this?

Good question. I adjust my voltage with and without a carto or atty attached to it. I've never thought about if I should be doing that or not. The thing that I don't do is check the ohms on a carto or atty that I haven't filled with juice. It has to fire it to check the ohms and I don't want to pop an atty or burn a carto. There was a thread a while back where someone kept popping attys and they were trying to check them without any juice in them. I'm sure someone else will have a better answer and chime in.

The output voltage comes from a charged inductor, which in turn stores the pulses in a capacitor. The thing with capacitors is they have a voltage rating, and doing this without a load could cause voltage spikes that are higher than the rating. So I adjust with the carto on. I press the button quickly if its an LR, and rarely get the E1 error. The current limit wont allow too much current so frying a LR carto isn't likely...
