Everything that I have read suggests that they do have nickel leads... I have rebuilt a few and I have noticed that the leads are arc welded...the coil itself is a parallel coil... so I never really investigated it just assumed it was their way of connecting the two parallel wires without having to twist them... Obviously my assumption was wrong. With that being said I cant give you a definitive on whether it messes with the readings or not.... I know that on my RX200 i hit temp protect extremely quickly with the .25 coils. I havent used the .5 coils. But I can get a satisfying vape on SS TC mode at 600 degrees @70 watts with 7-8 sec pulls and no burnt/dry hits. That in my opinion means it works. Now is the coil really running at 600 degrees doubtful because the cotton would probably burn....but it is how I have mine dialed in and what works for me. The Evic mini uses the same TCR for SS as the RX200 so we would be in the same boat. Now if you would like to tweak a custom TCR and then dial down your temp to lower than 600 degrees... you can set you TCR at 0115 and get a satisfying vape at 475-500 degrees. Its all your preference and how you like to vape. Thats why TC is a different monster all in itself.... but as I have said more than once.... Yes in a perfect world and too all the sciency people out there if I set my mod to 475 I want it to consistently vape at 475. Too many different chip sets out there for that to be even remotely possible. So the ultimate goal of TC is to get a satisfying vape while limiting dry/burnt hits. In TC i can take 10 sec pulls and not have fear that I will get a hot pair of lungs full of cotton smoke towards the end of my inhale...that piece of mind alone is why I use it.... I dont care if the coil is running exactly at 450 degrees... I care that my vape is @ a preferred temp and flavor for me and that I wont get the burnt hit. It allows you to take longer draws with less penalty. You cant do that in wattage mode no matter what.

Ok, I lied. I'm still awake.

Thanks a bunch for taking the time to share your info. This has been a huge help.

Just tonight I've been trying the .25's at 550-600 watts (fiddling) at 50 watts and the TC does indeed kick in very fast, a couple seconds at best -seems to depend on my airflow and how hard I'm pulling- but the vapor i get is spot on. I'm enjoying it. The flavor isn't on par with when I drip, but it's still pretty darn good, and I can chain it much more safely then in wattage mode, like you said. I've been hesitant to go up to 60-75 watts, even if it is just a quicker ramp up, for fear that the cotton will start to char up a bit, but maybe I have more leeway than I first suspected. I get that TC is supposed to avert the dry hits, and it does a solid job doing so, but I have a couple .15 Nickel heads that I suspect I've pretty much toasted while in TC. I'm new to this so it could be that I didn't prime efficiently and/or break them in slowly enough. Patience isn't always my strong point. I haven't taken them apart yet, but from giving them a look -after a rough hit or two- they look pretty darn dark. I like the long warm pulls for the custard juices I've been using lately. If I could get that 8 second pull on the .25's at 600F/70watts I think I'd be in heaven. Maybe I'll work up to it and see how it goes after properly breaking in a new head.

Thanks again, man!

EDIT - And as usual I missed a dozen posts while typing this one.

Hey thats what this is all about... nickel has a break in period too... from what i have read it usually takes 4-5 tanks to get that nice crisp taste from it. As far as charring up... Its hard to char up in TC mode.... most likely your just seeing caramelization from the sugars in your sweet ejuices. But hard to say without actually seeing the coil itself.

IF you have TCR then you can adjust it up higher to allow you to vape at a warmer temp without having to increase your wattages.... I have gone as high as 115(TCR Coefficient) with the SS heads and the flavor is out of this world. It chokes me up its so rich. But finding your perfect vape for your gear is what its all about....Im glad you gave it a go with massively positive results.

I cracked open one of my crusty looking Crown nickel heads just to get a closer look. I think you were right about the sugars in my juices. Looks can be deceiving. From a top down view of the head (assembled) it looked like re-fried mud (assuming such a thing could exist), but after unrolling the cotton 95% percent of it was pristine -just a thin darkened line running along the top of the cotton, about as thick as the wire (I'm guessing 28 gauge). Go figure.

I did a tiny bit of research (probably the worst amount one could do) on TCR. Consequently, I did a little dabbling with the TCR settings on my eVic. If anyone's curious this link shows how to edit the settings and gives some TCR values: VTC Mini TCR Values • /r/electronic_cigarette
Although the values given in that post are based on single round wire, not the dual wire found in the Crown heads. No idea what the formula is to adjust for that, other than tinker.

I ended up taking your suggestion and dialed in 113 to test the SS .25 Coils and vaped at 570F/60Watts. My first impression was a noticeable burst in flavor and warmer vapor as compared to the standard SS316 setting on the eVic, with all other variables the same. Pretty nice for sure. I'm not sure what the TCR for the standard SS316 setting is on the eVic (I'm assuming they're not the values given in the above link), but I'm "kinda" curious, so I might have a poke around to try and find out.
