Has anyone put any thought in to having chips/tokens made for V4L printed with how long you've been without a smoke? I've spoken to several people who have said 'I still want an analog every now and again but it's been XX months since I've had one, I don't want to break the streak'. I think AA-esque chips might be good, just as a reminder of how long it's been, maybe a 1 month, 6 Month and then 1 & 2 years? I don't know. All I know is that we've all heard stories of people who have gone years (decades even) without a cigarette and then one day, they start back up for one reason or another. I think that some of us probably ARE those people.

I never though I'd make it 6 months (next Wednesday), and I know that, in AA, the chips are part of the 'program', but I think that this forum is part of OUR program, and similar chips might help us remember how well we've done.

Thoughts?

I use DaShiVa's signature dealie for that.

I don't think the idea is stupid, and don't want to offend Symmetric, but it seems to me that AA and NA chips are for something quite different from simply switching one's source of addictive drug. Sure, vaping beats the heck out of smoking, but we're still addicted to nicotine, no? I, for one, will continue with nicotine, and have no plan to remove it from my life. AA and NA chips are for surviving lengths of time without whatever that drug'o'choice happened to be. It's different.

IMHO The medallions are not JUST for surviving lengths of time without your drug of choice. Depending on what 12 step program you're in, it means different things. Think OA. I found this under a description of one of the medallions and think it states their meaning much better than I could:

"[SIZE=-1]Featuring the raised center circle triangle.
This universally recognized piece is a constant reminder
of a commitment and a celebration of achievement"

That being said...I think it's a wonderful idea...could have V4L in the center.
The signature is great and obviously I use that too...but I still carry the Nar-Anon ones I was given years ago. They have a lot of meaning...and I'd carry these too if they were available. Nice to have something with you at all times.

We've ALL achieved something here even if only cutting down the number of analogs we've smoked. I for one celebrate EVERY day I go without an analog..and still can't believe it's been over 8 months for me.

No offense taken, to be honest, I almost added a disclaimer apologizing to AA/NA members, should I have offended them...

Being that I am an active participant in NA, I know the chips serve as a constant reminder to our commitment and accomplishment of what we achieved. Yes, we still have the nicotine which in itself is addictive, but we have succeeded in removing thousands of very harmful toxins from our body. That is something to be proud of. We have taken away our death sentences, similar to when a drug addict stops putting toxins in their bodies. It is used as a way to remind ourselves each day and a day at a time that we are worth more than these substances and do have the power to rise above obstacles we encounter in everyday life!

What we all need to realize is any accomplishment, big or small, is meaningful and should be celebrated.

No offense taken here. I have been sober for over 20 years and while I no longer attend AA, those chips, especially in the first year, year meant a lot to me...in fact I still have them.

They are very cheap to make and should never be sold......V4L could pass them out and it would make for a nice marketing tool.

I would suggest the following:

1 Day At A Time
1 Month
3 Months
6 Months
1 Year

That would definitely be sweet. As far as the design, maybe we could have a contest. Of course we need to see if Steve will like the idea, but knowing him as I do I am thinking he would love it.
