I KNOW there is a modders forum, but no-one there is doing anything with a V4L.

I was wondering if anyone has actually made any modifications to the V4L?

I love the product, I just wish there was more battery life.

Basically i'm tired of charging batteries.

I have somehow fried a couple of them! Probably bad charging on my part.

Also, I am starting to get a decent collection of dead carts.

I do clean them ,and refill them, but after a while the heating elements in the burn out.

So I thought maybe we can get a brand specific modification/rebuild, etc forum going.

As far as battery life, from all reports the VK is considerably better than models like the 510 and 901. Definitely better than the 801. And Steve's new extra long battery is a further improvement. And I wouldn't be surprised to see him come out with something even better, if the demand is there. I would think that any mod company thinking of adding the VK to their list would be wary of someone like Steve, who is always trying to improve his products and responds so well to demand from his customers.

With 2 chargers (wall and USB), a passthrough, PCC, long battery, and 2 regular batteries, our power needs are already met.

I'd be contacting V4L about that. Steve's all about customer satisfaction. ;)

Atomizers, in this case cartomizers, don't last forever. Doesn't matter which brand you're using, they all have a life span.

One of the reasons there are so many fans of the Vapor King is that you don't need to spend time fooling with it. It just works. In other words, there aren't really any mods necessary.

As for the battery, there is an extra long life battery available that might help with the constant charging issue. Some people are getting 6 hours or more use from those.

Burning carts sounds like a personal issue . Seriously, any carts can burn and it sounds like you are power-vaping so you might want to keep an extra handy when it starts to get overheated. At some point you should be able to tell when the carto is starting to get dry and that's when they will start to burn no matter what. Don't let them get dry.

Agree...

During the day when I am just taking 4-5 draws every hour or so, one battery is fine, but when I power vape at night with the low nics, I have my passthrough and extra long battery and rotate. If the cartos get too hot they will burn through a lot quicker so I let them cool off. ;)

And the extra longs are beasts! Last long and really put out the vapor! I can't imagine a mod being any better then those puppies!

Agree... the two cartomizers i've personally incinerated, and the 2 or 3 the wife incinerated, were user error...now i keep two or three of the same flavor 24mg so i can vape non stop..and im takin the wife's passthrough away cause she doesn't have the sense not to abuse it lol...she hit's the light *every* time on auto batts..and the pt doesnt have a light..and the manual doesn't have a cutoff...i'm not sure where her "cutoff" is..but its longer than the auto batts and auto passthrough...and i think she challenges the manual every time..and i dont think it *has* a cutoff :/

OK.. I reckon I'll start. I have modified my VK.

I really don't like the round end of the cartomizer. I've been using a 901 whistle-tip on my 510 for a long time now, and I really like the feel. I also like the ability to hold the thing in my mouth (teeth) for hands-free.

I was putting some 3/8" heat-shrink on a carto that I had taken the label off of (dern thing gets hot on the lips without the label) and I had forgotten to pull the white end plug out. When you get that hot with the heat gun, it shrinks and withers away. So now I have no plug on the end of my carto and I'm staring at the silicone donut. Hmmmm...

I cut down the atomizer end of a 901 whistle tip and I'm able to insert/press it right onto the end of my VK carto. Now my VK is about an inch longer than it used to be.. but it has a whistle tip on it and my teeth and mouth are MUCH happier. And, when it comes time to refill the carto I can just pull the tip off and remove the donut. I don't need to deal with the little white plastic cap.

This "mod" will require a little bit of refinement... but I'm on my way.

Oh.. and please note that 510 cartridges are a different diameter than the 901's and they aren't going to work nearly as well IMHO.

I done the same, I cut the cart bit off my whistle tip, just up to the little indent there that holds the cart in the atty, because it was slightly too long for the inside of the cart. Works perfect, HOWEVER, even with the end snipped off it doesn't work on the new carts if you leave the doughnut in, the filler comes up a lot closer to the mouth end of the cart. New carts I refer to are the tan ones he has been sending out, if they become the norm it may not work anymore.

I'm going to have to give this a try, the whistle tip is the only thing I miss from my 510.

With the "extension" provided by the 901 tip, is the donut really needed?

I found without leaving the doughnut in there you end up with a bit of juice leaking. Kind of just helps keep the juice where it should be since with a VK you want the mouthpiece end facing back towards you whereas on a 901/510 you want it battery end forward, because of atty/wick placement (if this makes sense)
Please excuse my photos, I'm lazy and taking them from my Blackberry, if you want clearer I'll go grab my SLR :p

Ahhh.. I see! I must have old cartos since the donut is way recessed. I should mention that I also drilled a small hole right down through the bottom of the old 901 cartridge so that the majority of the air came through the center in lieu of coming through the side of the "D".

I had not seen the extra long batteries before.

Well I had, but I thought "Whay would I want a longer battery?"
Was not thinking capacity, was thinking style.

Might have to check those out.

I had 3 battery that basically died, but those were in the days when everything was a USB charger with a wall adapter. Straight push in friction fit.

The screw in wall chargers appear to do a much better job.

Almost all of the carts that died have had multiple refills, so it's probably just a life span thing.

Eventually any type of heating coil burns out.

Oh s***
Almost spat my coffee out, sorry :( but LOL
I have gone to take a drag in the middle of the night..wrong way...burn on my lip for a week after :(

Yeah my favorite was being 1/2 asleep, or having been indulging in some liquid refreshment.

You pull out a smoke, and light it up, only to discover that you just lit the filter end, and tried to take a drag.

YUCK.

OH by the way those filters really flare up when hit with flame!
