Vamo insulation inside?

Here is a picture of the inside of my vamo:

I am sure there used to be a white ring of insulation inside the red ring, or maybe I am imagining things, should there be more insulation there?

There is nothing there so it's just a hole with a metal pin in the middle and a red ring around it and you can see right into the device.

That looks perfectly normal.

I had to give my vamo an IPA bath because
  1. After six month of juice mishaps the button was misfiring
  2. It went for swim in some dirty water after it fell out of my pocket

A little after that the orange fiber washer came out, so I presume that the glue had been weakened by the IPA. I just glued it back on but centered it properly, but I was using the Vamo for at least week before I got around to re-fixing the fiber washer.

How long should a Vamo V3 last with daily use? I've had mine for 2 weeks and no problems... I assumed it would last years if taken care of.

Correct. If you've got a good one you should get a lot of use out of it.

The weak link is generally the 510 connector. The threads are a little soft and it's possible to push the center pin in.

I've heard of people stripping the 510 threads (leave a clearo on it, put in your back pocket, then sit on it) and if you tighten devices with a fixed center pin all the way down then you can push the center pin in so it no longer makes contact on other devices. It's possible to get the center pin back out.

There are a few manufacturing issues that pop up from time to time depending on which factory it came out of. You'll normally see it from retailers who buy the absolute cheapest Vamos they can get, and don't do any quality checks. Anyone buying the cheapest from China needs to be doing their own quality control, because that's the import bit that is missing and why it's so cheap. People don't understand this and unfortunately it's not obvious to us because they often retail the things for the same price everyone else is charging. The buyer gets the thing home and finds that half their 510 devices won't even screw on. There can also be an issue with the soldering of the wire on the center pin. The cheap cheapies are usually V2's

Same as with any APV, Keep the battery contacts clean, and keep juice/water/dirt and other gunk out of the PV otherwise you are going to be having to do more maintenance. The old V2 screen can be full submerged (didn't hurt mine anyway) however I've heard the oLed display (V3 onwards) is not sealed, which might make cleaning a bit more complicated.

A lot of that depends on the user. The weak link on some Vamo's in the 510 connector. Or at least there are a lot of complaints about it. But you can strip the 510 connector on any device if you are reckless. Dropping it with a device connected, over-tightening devices onto the connector, simply not paying attention when you are screwing a device on - all can strip or cross thread the 510 connector on any device.

Replacement top caps with 510 connectors are available for Vamo's - but you have to have the will and technical savvy to tackle that job.

Mine almost made it two months before the threads on the 510 connector gave up the ghost.

Mind you, I've been taking things apart and putting them back together for a living (and hobbies) for my entire adult life, so I'm no stranger to taking care of threaded connections. It's just that it seems the threads are made of poorly plated brass, and once the plating was gone, my atomizers with their stainless steel threads just ate through the threads on the Vamo to the point where nothing would thread into them anymore.

No biggie, I ordered a replacement top cap which should be here in a week or so (the vendor has them on backorder) and the replacement is all stainless steel.

I'm not even really bothered by it, all told I'll have about $40 total invested in it.
