If you run the Vamo at or below the voltage of the battery, you will get a 'flat" voltage output. Once you set for higher voltage than the battery has available, it goes into it's 33 hertz modulation mode and tends to sound like a rattle snake. But I do not think this will cause any issues with the device at proper setting levels.

There must be something wrong with the OP's device, none of the other VAMO users thus far have a similar experience including myself.

I am currently vaping a 2.5 ohm coil at 4.2 volts or 7 watts without any burning on a mini pt2.

How long are you holding the fire button?

It's hard to say exactly. I'd say not longer than two seconds on an average pull.

So op if you drip on It to get the coil nice and saturated, but not too flooded, can you hit it at 5v ?

I would try this too.

If you have multimeter you can see what volts your vamo is putting out.

One more thing, if you are rebuilding the protank coils never dry burn them they will fry the rubber insulator.

My guess is juice + protank that's giving you problems.

My suggestion would be to try the clearo on another device. If you're able to go above 3.5 volts without the burnt taste on another device, then it's definitely the vamo firing at a much higher voltage then it's set to.

If it still tastes burnt on another device, then it would either point to your clearo or juice as the problem.

Pretty much after the first stock kanger coil I used; I never used one again! I know they are crap, they are wrapped way too tight on the wick. I always wrap my own, It's really a necessity. You can recoil it with the stock wire. New or old. Pull the coil out gently, unwrap it and wrap it lightly on the wick yourself. Put it back together. Far better performance. But at any rate your issue does sound odd with nothing wanting to hit well on the vamo much above 3.

You could also try a higher resistance coil. I regularly use 3+ ohm coils on my zmax.

Thanks for the advise :) I use a combination of both their stock coils, which certainly have their faults, and some custom made coils.

Are you sure the coil doesn't have a hot spot??

This sounds like an exaggeration, but I've honestly lost count on how many different coils I've tried on it. I think close to 10. I'm sure at least one wouldn't have had too bad of a hot spot.

In short, everyone here has been extremely helpful to a new forum member. Thank you all very very much. Sadly, I think I'm just going to have to ask for an exchange. I'll happily keep a VAMO in my lineup, but there's just too many oddities in this particular unit.

with everything you have described and all the different coils you have tried and the fact that the exact same tanks and coils work on your 3.7 volt ego battery you are completely right to exchange that vamo - it sounds like it has a bad board - remember there are probably at least 100,000 vamos out there, a 1% failure rate getting past QA is still 1000 bad units ( I once had 3 dead computers in one day (checked the 3rd one in the store) until the manager of the store finally gave me the next model up - he did admit to almost 100% failure rate on that model of computer so far that sale)

Hope it gets exchanged ok for you

Good luck, post back with the results would be interesting to see what caused the problem.

Thanks, I'll post again with the results from the new unit.

Another concern of mine is something I'm pretty uninformed on, but I've read an issue with the batteries could have caused the damage to the Vamo circuit board (if there is any). Is that a real concern? I'd hate to drop more cash on a new set of batteries, but I suppose I would if it's a reasonable possibility.

All the batteries I have (the two 18350 Efest IMR Flattop 800 mAh Cells, and the one 18650 Trustfire 3000 mAh Cell) all seem to be holding charge very well, and discharging at a reasonable rate when in use. That's about all I know to indicate battery health. Any advise?

I received my replacement VAMO today, and I'm ecstatic to report there's a huge difference between the two. So far I've tested on a Kanger T2 short wick, and the Kanger Protank 2 previously noted in this thread. There's been a significant improvement in how it handles to both tanks.
I was surprised to be able to move the Protank up to 7 watts on a 2 ohm coil and still get some solid results. Hypothetically I should be able to get to 8 and still be in the higher temperatures of the good flavor zone, but I didn't have the guts today. :D

Thanks to everyone for the help, I'd have probably still be pulling my hair out trying to figure out the problem.
Extra special shout outs to JeremyR and BaDaBooM.

I have the exact exact same issue is it the vamo 5 do you think I need a older version like vamo 2 because I done all that you have and when I use it on others I say it improves and if I use it on the telescope mod withe Protank then it works ok. However it seems the protank just isnt wahat it seems . I need help to with this issue. I hope you also have any advice from trial and error as well as anyone else. I tried it all? Anything above 3.0 on the Vamo 5 in the protank is still not good and I have changed teh coils plus if I put it on a higher setting because its using a 2.5 coild which I should beable to atleast go up to 6.0 but it is crazy? What do you think in ohms would help I use the Protank that is both in the cardborad box with seal that says new 2013 and the protank in the black flip nice case? What do I do? Or is a Vamo 2 better for Protank and others?
