Puppycakes, see a doctor immediately. Go to an emergency room if needed. Coughing up puss is serious. The cause is probably not vaping.

Thanks for your concern and sound advice. As a child I frequently coughed pus due to asthma and allergies causing bronchitis. I'm keeping an eye on it, don't worry! It seems to have been improving, but if it gets worse or does not stop I WILL go and see a doc within the next 24 hours, even though it's insanely expensive because I have no insurance. Don't worry. <3

Dr. House told me to watch out for these warning signs:

If you cough up either, seek medical advice immediately.

Seriously, coughing up green stuff is bad. Pus means you have an active infection. Green mucous may mean a serious secondary infection. Given your past history of childhood asthma you should be extra cautious because it can come back years later. It is nothing to ignore.

Also, the pharmaceutical grade nicotine found in most juice is not going to give you the same buzz that first cigarette in the morning did. That cigarette buzz came from ammonia.

Oh, I'm no Dr. House just another Joe on the board that doesn't know anything about medicine just like everyone else here. Keep that in mind when seeking medical advice at ECF.

CES beat me to it; but that head rush that you get is caused by carbon monoxide. You *can* get a nicotine head rush, but it's not likely to be anywhere near as intense as that "first smoke in the morning". After 2 weeks of switching, I did smoke a cigarette, and believe me, the head rush was nowhere near as pleasant as what it used to be...

The pain in your lungs may be due to sensitivity to one of the juice's ingredients, but I'd say try not taking lung hits for a while to see if it goes away. You'll get your nicotine fix from absorption in the mucus membranes (mouth, nose) :)

What? Please elaborate. I didn't come here for medical advice, my health is my own responsibility. I hold nobody accountable for any advice they give me here. What do you mean by ammonia? Isn't ammonia so volatile that it couldn't even exist in cigarettes?
A quick Google search reveals that some manufacturers add ammonia to cigarettes in order to increase nicotine absorption... while I'm not certain on the validity of that claim, the light headed-ness comes from carbon monoxide for sure.

edit -- while ammonia is volatile, there are certain compounds that contain it that are not as volatile...

Good advice in here re turning the voltage down

Edited thread title to : "Vape burns my lungs, coughing up stuff..."

If in fact you are coughing up puss instead of phlegm, you do need to see your doctor immediately.

edit to add...and yes...try a way lower nic level !

Ammonia is extremely volatile and thus evaporates very quickly. I honestly am not sure how it'd survive in a regular pack of cigarettes long enough to make any sort of impact to a smoker's lungs, but maybe I'm just ignorant! Or maybe it alters the other ingredients in some sort of arcane way I'm unaware of, as you vaguely suggested.

If you're coughing up pus then vaping is the last of your worries. I would get to a pulmonologist asap. I've had many bronchial infections and asthma issues and I have never ever coughed up pus. Coughed up all kinds and colors of nasty phlegm but never pus. I'm really hoping you just mean phlegm.

Nope it was chunks of pus, lots of them. I started wheezing and coughing and what I coughed up tasted exactly like what I taste when I have a sinus infection.... except it was coming from my lungs.... so I spat it into a paper towel and saw countless little chunks of green, like sprinkling on a cupcake, except a lot more morbid and disgusting and.... gross. =\

I actually changed the title from "puss" to "pus" because someone corrected my ignorant spelling, but it seems the title reverted to "stuff" instead of "pus"... and I'm not sure why... and I can't change the title of the thread any longer, perhaps some moderator has locked it, I'm not sure. It is definitely pus that I'm coughing up! Lots of little chunks of green pus! It's quite alarming! My boyfriend was even shocked.

To be clear, offering advice on how to properly use your vtr is one thing, and if you have a chest infection any advice on that topic will not address that particular problem. Turning your wattage down and changing your coil will make vaping more peasant and less irritating, but it won't cure an infection. Please go to the doctor if you possibly can.

I changed the thread title, do not attempt to change it back.

I don't care how you spell it...if it is not phlegm you are coughing up get off the computer and go to the Doctor.

As for vaping, the voltage you are set at is probably too high and the 24mg nic is probably too high also
