I received my new ithaka in from e smoke today! However I have to say I am not completely pleased with it at all. As I was taking it apart to clean and build it I noticed the ceramic is jammed into the ceramic holder and I can't get it out for the life of me, there also appear to be chips in the ceramic (probably from someone forcing it in).

Any ideas to remove the ceramic w/o destroying the parts? I'm hoping to get this working without complaining to the place I purchased it from because they are on the other side of the planet and I really don't want to wait twice as long as I did to get it to get replacement parts for this thing( 10 days to send back the bad parts 10 days to get the replacements).

Anyone else have anything like this going on, or am I just lucky?

I just checked my new unused Ithikas. Looks like one of mine is also chipped. Have not had a chance yet trying to completely disassemble.

Shoot an email to vasillis, include pics of the damage. He usually does not require sending back the broken part and will just send you the replacement part.

Thank you sir, I will do that. After the waiting and anticipation I'll admit I was kinda trippin out at first. I was soo excited to finally get it in and so heart broken to find those little surprises.

Ohhhh, think I remember something about that in one of bisopheals threads. I need to get into that ithaka official thread and do some reading but its just so darn long. I have a ton of questions on using the customizable features on the ithaka, id toss a quick thread up asking for the quick version on setting up the ithaka and tuning it to your preferences but I don't want to crowd the board.

Some questions I have are:

The nut inside the ceramic, what is the difference between having it open or closed? Or what is the function of it supposed to be?

The basic feeding, with that set to open do you still use the mouthpiece to comtrol the juice going to the wicks?

Also parallel coils vs x coils, what's the difference in the vape?

On my ody devices, I used a dremel to widen the channels for 2mm ekowool stuffed w reg silica comes put to about 3mm (I'll post up some pics or a vid on that later) but what size wick, what gauge wires and what resistence are you guys using on the ithakas?

Has anyone tried double "micro" coils on these?

I wonder if there is any way that COV can send you the parts and have E-smoke send COV the part to balance things out. Just thinking of a way to get what you need without waiting so long. Sorry about the temporary let down:(

That would be too awesome but I'm not goin to get my hopes up. I will most def be ordering through them next time. I only went through e smoke because I got their notification email first. With all the frenzy over the ggsteath I was nervous about waiting for cov to get them and whether they would sell out before I got one. With the issues I've noticed on this order I would def prefer a local vendor next time.

I will def be ordering a just gg from cov for sure :)

When I got my Penelope I didn't think much of the ceramic until somehow it got chipped in an area that would cause the positive and negative wire to short out. I got more ceramic pieces from COV and the original was very hard to get out. I ended up breaking the original one trying to get it out.

Yeah, I think some ceramics forced into the RBA. The new ceramic was kinda hard to put into my Penelope but it wasn't as hard as trying to get the original one out.

Icy, ceramics come all of them in a bag, so some of them get a little chipped. Its not something that has to bother you. Ceramics are very cheap and also cant be polished and there is no reason for that. I never paid too much attention on them

Hi Imeo!
I'm not too concerned with the chip really as I don't believe it will interfere with the electrical connections to the coils. I also can imagine a giant bag of ceramics getting shipped to you and a couple tiny fragments getting bumped and stuff, no big deal there. What does have me a lil buggered is taking the ceramic out to clean it before using it. I hit all my ceramic parts w a blow torch to burn off any organics and foreign substances before vaping them, all other parts get a wash down w warm water and mild amount of dish soap. If I can't take the ceramic out, I can't clean it. Also if I switch flavor from a very strong one to a very light flavor I need to clean the ceramic so I don't taste the other juice, again if the ceramic is stuck I cannot do that. I did get an extra ceramic but if I have to break this one to get it out will I have to break the next also? In the grand scheme of things these are very small issues and I am sure I will love the ithaka when I get to use it. I'll shoot you a pm in a little bit.

push it with a cserwdriver from the hole that ceramic housing has Icy. Also you can push it little by little from its base that is not covered by ceramic housing

From the ceramic housing hole? To me it look's like the ceramic housing hole is flush with the ceramic hole, so no ceramic area to push out on. As you suggested I tried pushing the ceramic base that is not covered with a tool and still mine would not budge.

hole of ceramic is smaller xtreme. If it was at the same diameter, a short would happen.

Ok, put a screwdriver on a table in vertical position with its plastic grip on the table and put the ceramic housing on its other side having metal piece of screwdriver touching the base of ceramic. Keep them together and hit the screwdriver on the table

The basic feeding, with that set to open do you still use the mouthpiece to comtrol the juice going to the wicks?

Depends of a lot of factors, the size of the wick used, the style of coils (arrangement), types of wires : single, dual, etc. final resistance and so on.

For example, right now I have a dual (X) ribbon 0.3mm coil, each one of 1.8ohms for a final resistance of 0.9ohms, 3mm silica. Basic feeding is opened for both channels, mouthpiece fully closed. I do not have to open the mouthpiece at all, no dry hits, good flavor and good vapor.

When I use it with a single coil, two wicks in parallel and the coil joins both wicks at the center, I leave the basic feeding control opened for one channel at each side and make adjustments by using the mouthpiece feeding control.

Or you can just leave the basic liquid feeding control closed for all channels and adjust the liquid feeding with the mouthpiece.

It is just a thing of experimentation to find which is the suitable setup for you.

Also parallel coils vs x coils, what's the difference in the vape?

I have tried both styles (dual coils), I prefer the X style, in my case, that setup gives more vapor, throat hit and flavor:

Air hits both coils by the center (one coil is over the other, just above the center post / air intake), air hits the first coil and part of the second coil, and also, as it has to go up, the surrounding air hits parts of the upper coil.

On parallel setup I got less vapor and throat hit, coils have to be very close each other on the center, so air can hit both coils.

Any way, I'll try again the parallel setup, just to experiment with it again :D

I use 2mm, 2.5mm, 3mm wicks on my Ithaka. I prefer the 2.5mm, I get better results when the wick is not too tight in the channels but no too loose.

Has anyone tried double "micro" coils on these?

I have not, but I saw a Shiryo's picture on the Ithaka's thread, he configured his Ithaka with micro coils:
