So my 3 year old daughter got a tear in her cornea and had to have emergency surgery to get it repaired so i spent all day in a hospitial and vaped it was great the nurses didnt mind and where kinda interested in it actually. it felt great not having to go all the way outside to smoke a cigarette. vaping is great it even helps for those stressed out cigarettes you need. vaping helps keep you calm after finding out she will be loosing some vision in her eye and wont have 20/20 vision in on eye the best vision she could have is 20/30. i vaped like a mad man after hearing all the news.

so if your stressed and really want a analog just vape instead it works even when you really want a cigarette cause your stressing out!!

sorry that this post isnt too much about e cigs. i just needed to vent a little bit. It has been a long, sad, and stressful day especially so close to christmas.

My wife is an RN at a hospital and although she ( or her friends she has turned on to vaping) are not allowed to do it in view of the public due to "image concerns" , which i can understand, they are allowed to vape in their breakroom. She even asked the resident pulmonologist about vaping and as e
xpected, he said it was still too soon to determine what health effects it might have long term, it was still a much safer alternative to analogs. Their policy may change tomorrow, but as of today even the staff is allowed to vape at our local small town hospital.

My daughter works for a clinic affiliated with Hopkins and she recently started vaping. She continued to go outside with the rest of the smokers but when her supervisor found out she was using an ecig, she was told that she did not have to go outside but could go to their breakroom or bathroom to vape. Needless to say, she was shocked and the smokers were jealous. Her response to them was "don't hate... you too can vape". I loved that response.

I have to add: It's been 3 months for me and I turned her onto vaping and it's been 2 months for her.

I hope everything goes well for your child.... I just got out of the hospital a week ago today after spending 10 days in there... I had a golf ball brain tumor removed. But when I was awake from my morphine sleep I was vaping like mad in the ICU.. Got funny looks at first from the doctors and nurses but they let me and I think I made some ecig sales doing it.. There are some photos on here somewhere where I'm taking a few pulls right before they took me off to surgery. Good luck and God Bless..

I work in a hospital too.. Ive hd to resort to bathrooms and private room to VAPE, supposedlly its still falls under their no smoking rule. I actually had a co-worker report me to my supervisor, total BS... But yeaha few months after I quit analogs my hospital became a no smoking campus which is good and bad.. Good that I don't smoke cigarettes but bad in the sense I can't just go outside to vape anymore sucks.....

I can't imagine what you went through. No kids. Glad you had the vape to help dull the stress a bit. I have had to do the chain vape thing for panic attack over a perceived financial problem and a Mother who is declining quicker than I would like with Dementia. Little to much at one time. Hope they recover soon.

I can only relate on the pain she must be feeling as I sliced my cornea actually just last week. As a parent of a 6 and 1 year old I would be stressed as well. At least the surgery sounds like it went well for her, 20/30 is not bad all.....I wish my vision was even remotely close to that.

Wishing your little one a quick and pain free recovery

My thoughts and prayers for your precious little girl. I know this is very stressful for you and your family, but little kids bounce back so quickly and all will be well shortly. Hope you all have a wonderful holiday. Also, glad that you did not resort to smoking cigarettes. :)

I work at a hospital which has a zero tolerance for employees to use "tobacco" on campus. There are no specific guidelines in the hospital's policy and procedure manuals that I could find that deal specifically with e-cigs. I presently stealth vape in the locker room by my locker, which is conveniently blocked off from view to the only entrances.

There are no longer smoking areas for visitors to smoke, but those that do go outside and smoke in the parking lots.

I did inquire to one of the head nurses about patients, visitors, and employees using e-cigarettes. I gave a simple explaination on how these devices did not make smoke, but water vapor. They are essentially alternative nicotine delivery devices, not unlike nicotine gum or patches (which are allowed). She told me she would ask her superiors about my question.

She got back with me about a week later. She said that e-cigarettes WOULD NOT be allowed, because there have been no official medical studies upon their safety. Knowing the conservative nature of my hospital, I can't say that I was surprised with this unoffical stand on e-cigarettes. To my knowledge there is still no "official" written policy concerning e-cigs at my hospital.

Even being aware of this, I will continue to stealth vape at work. Should I ever get caught or in trouble, I reckon I will have my lawyer argue that e-cigs are not tobacco products and do not produce smoke, but are alternative nicotine devices not unlike nicotine delivery devices like the gum and patches. I certainly hope it doesn't come down to that, though. I simply desire to discreetly use my e-cigs to keep me off of cigarettes.

I have read here on ECF that there is a hospital that actually hands out free disposable e-cig to patients and visitors who feel that they must smoke on hospital grounds. Now that is one progressive hospital, I wish mine was, too.

thats good to hear i didnt know if 20/30 was really bad so hopefully it heals enough to get her to 20/30

I have worked for eye doctors for the past ten yrs...so I know my stuff in that area...Fear not mama! 20/30 is only 2 lines off from 20/20, and corneal abrasions heal pretty quickly. Well, at least compared to other parts of the body. They do hurt, and they do make you sensitive to light, but in most cases, visual acuity returns to normal. But even if it doesn't for her (which they can't really speculate what her best corrected acuity will be until she heals anyway...location of injury and amount of scar tissue are factors), 20/30 in one eye will be a barely noticeable difference to her. AND, with both eyes open she will still be able to see 20/20.

I will say, its probably best to find a PEDIATRIC ophthalmologist (not optometrist) for her follow up appointments. Your daughter will receive the best, most up-to-date care that way. And it doesn't matter if you don't have VISION insurance, this is considered a medical condition and will be treated as such by your medical insurance company.

That is great that you were able to vape through this though. I don't think the hospitals near me would allow it, but so wonderful that yours did.
