My experience is very unusual for me. Lately I have been vaping mostly my nautilus 2 at 12 watts with the 1.8 coil. I bought a 100ml of a new flavor called twisted berries, a blend of berries that is moderately sweet, not excessively. I've been vaping this flavor for the last two weeks and been enjoying it a lot. Usually I change my coil about every 2 weeks, as needed. After a week and a half into my coil, the past two days I wasn't tasting anything but the taste of charcoal, similar to how a burnt out coil tastes making me think I need to change the coil. So I went to the vape shop nearby that I have been trusting for years and bought a coil and replaced it. But the flavor tastes the same - like nothing. All I experience is the strength of the 24mg juice. Now this is a fresh coil and I would not say that it's a bad coil because this place is trustworthy for me for a while. The little twist is that I took out my rda that I have a build: 22G Kanthal 6 wraps 3mm inside diameter dual coil at 65W. I have this sweet and sour raspberry lemonade flavor at 6mg. I used this setup to see if I really am having vapors tongue but I can taste this flavor tremendously good and really am enjoying it. So with MTL I may have vapors tongue but with DL it doesn't seem so. Is this possible?

Did you thoroughly prime the new head?

Without checking the scratch off security code on the package there is no way to tell if you got an authentic head, there are at least as many knockoffs as authentic's on the market.
In other words always buy unopened 5 pack boxes & check the security code, if the number has been checked before they are knockoffs, each # is unique to each individual box.

You're right, I have not been buying the coils in a pack of 5 and checking the code, rather buying the coils individually. It never occurred to me that I should be doing that but I can say I definitely will from now on. Also with these nautilus coils I know it's best to prime the coil but I never had a problem just letting the coil sit for 10-15 minutes and then going from little wattage to working my way up to where I want to be. But I agree the proper way is to prime every coil.

There is an easy way to know if you have vapers tongue . Vape on a different flavor juice for a bit. Then go back to the old juice that didnt taste like anything. If you can taste the flavor again, then you have vapers tongue.

Edit: just saw someone post the same thing as me. ill just leave it. lol

So I am able to taste a different juice but that's when I am on 65 watts. I guess I should vape that and then go back to this one which technically does have lots of flavor and see if I taste it. If not it's vapors tongue. My only question is that if I have a have vapors tongue how can if be half and half, rda + different juice- I can taste and nautilus + juice- I can't taste?

I have this sweet and sour raspberry lemonade flavor...

Several flavors tend to fight through vapors tongue. Among them are tart and citrus flavors. Mint/menthol seems to work as well but what I have found is that flavors that make your saliva flow tend to work.

So maybe that's why I taste the raspberry lemonade, like you said because it's "citrusy".

I would just get Unflavored when you can't taste anything. That way it won't disappoint you in any way, shape or form. ;) I vape Unflavored 75-85% of the time even though I have 150 different flavors that I can make......as mentioned above though, rda does give off more flavor. Try twisted coil once..... even more flavor as well.

Now I'm convinced that I have vapers tongue. I used that raspberry lemonade flavor for a while just before. At the start I did taste the flavor but after a number of hits the flavor was just gone. What am I supposed to do? I have read posts in the past of people claiming that they can't taste anything and I thought it was a myth. Now that I'm experiencing it I sure know it's not a myth rather its a myth that it's a myth... How long does it take for this to go away and is there anything I can do in the meantime?

If it is vapor tongue it will go away on its own. You can in the meantime try brushing your teeth and tongue, drink water or cleanse palate with lemon or something. Sometimes hot pepper works too.

Never had the loss of taste from it and I do generally vape the same thing but I do keep another couple flavors around and vape them throughout the day a few times.

I have found that for me basil intensifies tastes of vape and other things for about 15 to 30 minutes after consuming some in food. You might give it a try by chewing a small sprig.
Maybe try that. I'll have a late night slice of pizza with a lot of basil on it. Then I'll vape and see if that helps. The truth is it's not the healthiest thing to have pizza at 12am so maybe I'll have it for lunch tomorrow :) Oh well, I'm definitely gonna try out the basil and the other things you recommended.

Vaper's tongue: Tart flavors (or unflavored), tongue scraper to stimulate tastebuds, some people suck on something like lemon zest or chew mint to refresh the palate. Stay hydrated. Wait. It will pass. You could also chew on a cinnamon stick, just any strong flavors to refresh the palate. I think (personally) that it can happen after vaping one flavor too long, but maybe also has to do with the old tastebuds dying off, being replaced with new ones once smoking has stopped. It makes sense to me given the time frame on folks who get VT after quitting smoking. Gargling salt water may also be helpful, just make sure you drink after that, as it can be a bit drying. There are other remedies, but those are the ones I know....

Most of all patience, your tastebuds will come back. It's a disconcerting feeling for sure, but it WILL pass even if you just vape unflavored and do nothing else, for a while....

Good luck!

It does seem odd, but I think that vaping (even heavily flavored ejuice) is probably less intense than food, which you are holding in your mouth, chewing, etc. It seems to routinely be the case that people can taste their food, but not their vape. It's a vape related event only.... My thoughts are it's just a different experience, or perhaps the tongue gets coated with something, leading to less flavorful vape. BTW I had vaper's tongue for a small while and I *thought* I could taste food, but NOTHING like I do now, in which I taste food like I feel like I never have before. I was tasting food like a smoker for a while after starting vaping, but that wore off. I still think it may be due to tastebuds repopulating themselves. (It's just a theory). And yes, it's odd, but that again seems routine to me.

Vapers tongue is plain odd. Likely because we saturate those taste buds all day long with a specific mix of food like flavors that flavors start to get ignored. Food is, usually, taken in intermittently through the day and rarely the same flavor every time. Giving our tongue a break by changing flavors seems like a good idea.

One other mention is you let a coil get so far gone as to taste burnt/charcoaly, you may need to just replace the juice in the tank after a quick warm water wash of the tank to make sure all is fresh. As to coils, buying them one at a time is sorta expensive over just ordering them by the pack.
