What I find interesting is that I can taste food but not a vape. It's so odd...
And that's the nature of vapers tongue.
Things known to help-
Take a deep breath of some fresh coffee grounds
Grapefruit juice (works for me)
Spearmint or Peppermint gum

What this does is essentially wakes the nerves up in the back of your tongue.

Vapers tongue can last from a few days to a few months. If you have juice you dont like, that's the time to vape it because you cant taste it.

I cant stress enough .... drink plenty of water and STOP vaping that one flavor without switching it up often!!! Sticking to one flavor is a common cause of vapers tongue.

It does seem odd, but I think that vaping (even heavily flavored ejuice) is probably less intense than food, which you are holding in your mouth, chewing, etc. It seems to routinely be the case that people can taste their food, but not their vape. It's a vape related event only.... My thoughts are it's just a different experience, or perhaps the tongue gets coated with something, leading to less flavorful vape. BTW I had vaper's tongue for a small while and I *thought* I could taste food, but NOTHING like I do now, in which I taste food like I feel like I never have before. I was tasting food like a smoker for a while after starting vaping, but that wore off. I still think it may be due to tastebuds repopulating themselves. (It's just a theory). And yes, it's odd, but that again seems routine to me.

Anna
You're on the right track; though not a theory at all. Your taste buds begin to heal/recover about 30 days after you quit smoking. It's the reason why food now taste especially yummy! :D

Vapers tongue is plain odd. Likely because we saturate those taste buds all day long with a specific mix of food like flavors that flavors start to get ignored. Food is, usually, taken in intermittently through the day and rarely the same flavor every time. Giving our tongue a break by changing flavors seems like a good idea.

One other mention is you let a coil get so far gone as to taste burnt/charcoaly, you may need to just replace the juice in the tank after a quick warm water wash of the tank to make sure all is fresh. As to coils, buying them one at a time is sorta expensive over just ordering them by the pack.
Never in all the time I've been vaping have I ever purchased coils one at a time BUT I did it just last week for the first time.
I dont know if you recall I used to spend my money helping my friends get into vaping before I realized they'd only continue to vape as long as I was buying & supplying everything.......so I stopped doing that.

Within the past month I got 2 people to start vaping & 1 person to go back to vaping.

Out of the 2 new vapers, 1 bought all her own stuff (smok alien) & the other had no clue where to begin so I gave her my Coolfire IV & went to a vape shop & purchased one new coil for the Kanger subtank I gave her with the mod.
It felt so weird to me only buying one coil but I figure hey...I gave you the addy of the vape shop; you can go get your own 5 pack.

The 1 who went back to vaping didn't have any juice. I gave her a 120ml bottle & websites where to get it from on the cheap.

My job is done!

I've been doing this for over 7 years and it's still the same. After meals and the first 30 minutes of vapes in the morning are strong and flavorful. The rest of the day, it's pretty much a muted taste. I remember cigarettes were that way too. Taste and smell are very closely associated. They say it takes about 4 minutes for the nose to become accustomed to a strong odor and mitigate it's potency. That is what's happening, especially if one is a heavy vaper like myself.

I get vaper's tongue and that is why I have several different go to flavors. I have a flavor that I mix with menthol, and if the ratio is not right, then I don't taste the menthol and the flavor is muted which is pretty darn strange. For me, vaper's tongue is gradual but it gets to a point where I really notice the flavor going away. What I usually do is drink some water and swish water in my mouth before I swallow or spit it out. That generally gets some of the coating of whatever it is off my tongue. Then I get some of the flavor back again. I also notice that a "wet" tongue intensifies the flavor for me. When I start to get cotton mouthy, there is definitely 0 flavor.

But when I do get vaper's tongue, I try to finish off the tank, then I fill with a different flavor. Sometimes I just have a snack or a meal and it comes back.

I also suggest moving up a little in the tank world. I used to use a Nautilus (full sized) and I liked it, for the level of vaper I was. Sounds like you need to make a change. If the coil tastes nasty, you can probably bet that it's getting into the juice in your tank too. Like Eskie said, dump the juice out, rinse the tank really well with warm to hot water, until it doesn't smell like the juice anymore. Then put a fresh coil in, prime it really well, and try again.

Always check your scratch off codes for sure. Did so once to some Herakles coils I purchased off eBay and turns out the same number had been used many, many times guess they had the same code on thousands of packages. Guess they figured most people don't check and were horrible coils knew somthing was wrong immediately.

Thank God my vape tongue has extremely diminished, thanks to all the helpful tips people gave me:) It would've been so hard if it continued onward another couple of days to a month. That would be unbearable. Glad now that I can taste as in that people can take these normal bodily functions for granted until something fails... Taste, what would I have done without you:)

Are some people more susceptible to this than others? I mean, I drink a LOT of diet pepsi, really way way too much, and it always tastes great and *familiar* to me. The only time I got vaper's tongue was the one time, and I do vary my flavors. I use biotene, and the only other time flavoring can be muted is if I'm sucking on a sugar free lozenge (depending on the type of sweetener used, but I was told by the oral surgeon to reduce my jolly rancher intake), otherwise it's routinely fine.

Hmm. I vary at least two flavors a day, I drink a lot of liquids, but it seems like some people just have a really hard time tasting their vape? I would not be pleased if I could only taste my vape in the a.m. and/or after meals and whatnot.

This is such a weird phenomenon.....

It's not like being able to actually bite into something and the flavors explode in your mouth. We are trying to get flavor from wet air.

Now That is strange to me. How that flavor manages to get transferred to the vapor. I know it's all scientific and stuff but my mind isn't any way scientific. It used to boggle my mind that we could pictures on a TV set through only air waves. How things actually travel through wires makes my head hurt.

I get it occasionally, but it's rare. It's usually brought on by my allergies being out of control, and not being able to breathe well through my nose. That damn nose, when it's clogged, you can't taste anything! I'm also a heavy consumer of soda, only mine is Coca Cola. I drink at least 4 or 5 a day, if not more. A lot of times it's McDonald's Cokes that are in my hand at all times. I try to drink water sometimes to give my taste buds a break, but I just hate drinking water. I've discovered La Croix sparkling water, and it has no sweeteners, and just a hint of flavoring in it. It seems to help me keep from getting vapers tongue. Getting myself to drink something other than sugary drinks is like pulling teeth on a tazmanian devil without anesthesia.

The same number being used many many times means the item(s) is not authentic. The cloned batches all have the same number. An authentic product will each have its own number and won’t fall into the “many” category.

This was me for the majority of my life until I was recently (7/10/17) diagnosed diabetic. I’d been feeling like hell for a few weeks & during that time my sugar intake increased drastically.

Dr. Google had me self medicating because I was looking up my symptoms individually. By the time I couldn’t stand up straight I stopped with Dr. Google & dragged myself to the E.R. My sugar was 597 & I was severely dehydrated. Needless to say, my love affair with Mountain Dew is over. :(

Substitute that sugar for water as often as you can!!!!

I will be checking the codes (if they even try to hide that they're fakes) for sure. If they're fakes, I'll be ordering the coils the right way next time.

My love affair with Coca cola runs deep. I'm actually on my second large Tervis tumbler of water tonight. Be proud of me, I sure the hell am! It's all about willpower. Mine's pretty weak when it comes to the Coke addiction lol. I can't give up the cokes anymore than I can let go of the vape. They're both attached to me by invisible, unbreakable bonds. Ignore my babbling, I'm tired and been grouchy all day! ***I need a hug***

I'm glad you got to the ER and was diagnosed. Never underestimate that disease. Hopefully you will be able to keep it in check. People tend to underestimate the long-term effects of diabetes and it's scary.

Soda - Sweet sugary nastiness. I have a hard time avoiding it but it's so bad. I can't keep it in the house or my kid goes nuts for it.

I don't think I've ever had vapors tongue, but I tend to rotate flavors often using 3-4 every day.
