Good for you, congratulations!
I never tried Champix; I fear it would have done me in.
I did try E-lites though. That was bad enough. The biggest con in the UK e-cig industry. How they continue to get away with selling £4 cartomizers I'll never know. I must know hundreds of people who gave up on giving up due to that brand.

Hello & welcome @Jasjas I'm also in the UK & thankfully my GP wouldn't prescribe Champix to me due to my history of depression. How the heck drug companies can get away with pushing such a harmful drug is beyond me :( Thank goodness I found a non side effect & so much better alternative to quit smoking via e-cigs :)

Welcome @Jasjas! Quite glad you have found something that is working better for you!

I wonder if the "approved" methods for quitting smoking kill enough people, they'll consider that "successful" methods of smoking cessation.

Oops - did I say that out loud? Terribly sorry!

Anyway - you're safe here!

Cheers!
Thank you!!! You are all so nice on this site !!!

Grats to quitting!! As everyone says, "Whatever works for you."

I imagine that the people for whom Chantix DID work, would not be on a vaping forum. :)

Because they have already successfully quit smoking.

Everything is contextual, i.e, what is the room you're in when sharing experiences.

What I thought was "interesting" about Chantix and why I wanted to experience it is because it literally does turn off the part in your brain that derives pleasure from smoking, i.e. the nicotine high. It was amazing to me how that just *went away* after about a week. I found it fascinating to experience.

It made me realize how this is the future of medicine, i.e., we can turn genomes on and off (for obesity, inflammation, certain diseases) just like we can turn off certain "brain centers" for addictions/dependencies with pharmaceuticals.

It was also interesting to me that smoking/nicotine was a "brain thing" for me.....once that center was turned off, I had zero desire to smoke. It made me realize that there is a "brain thing" involved........i.e. some kind of dependency.

While I had no bad side effects from Chantix (like I do with a lot of other prescriptions that people take) I did have some vivid dreams here and there. But I had those when I quit smoking cold turkey years before, so not sure if it was the Chantix or the withdrawal from the substance of nicotine.

Everything has pros and cons. I guess for people who can tolerate Chantix, and it is a successful intervention for them, the pro's are that it's a one shot deal, they take it, they lose the urge to smoke. Not everybody wants to become a vaper, not everybody wants to have a new "hobby". I do understand this.

I do Agree with this.

And when the "Pro" of using Chantix is you will be able to Quit Smoking, and the "Con" is you will Not, that doesn't make for Much Controversy or Concern.

But when the "Pro" of using Chantix is you will be able to Quit Smoking, and the "Con" is you may have a Strong Desire to Jump out of a 7th Story Window, well, that is Kinda a Horse of a Different Colour.

Or get the desire of killing your wife....

Man says anti-smoking drug made him kill his wife

‘The stop-smoking pill made me do it': Man found not criminally responsible for shooting wife

Chantix is just Bad News.

And I'm Sure that someone (or Lots of People) at the FDA got Rich by Looking the Other Way when it came to Side Effects of this Drug.

Add Zyban / Wellbutrin to the list.

Just as bad or worse based on my own personal experience.

MAN oh man, did not know about the wellbutrin stuff. But I found out the hard way.

I have been dealing with acute depression for a long while and Prozac seems to be the only one that has not screwed me up in a bad way.

I hate to seem uncooperative with the doctors cause they want to cure you with a pill.

They put me on wellbutrin and man I was shaking, crying, laughing.... Felt like running out in traffic like a chicken with my head cut off. I was also twitching like the Southpark character "Tweek" and my left arm would just flip out.

My Doctor told me to give it more time, I sad Hell no, and stopped it, which affected me with horrible cluster migraines.... I tried Abilify, and a couple more like that one to add to Prozac. Xanax , damn I was a zombie.... Celexa, again, total spaz, looked like I was having a stroke.

Welcome!! Glad you are here. There is a lot of info here and a lot of good people. When I read your initial post, I thought that it had the makings of a good personal disaster and then a success story. As people have said, what works for one, may not work for another. But...not many stories that can highlight government-approved drugs.

There is a sub-forum that has success stories in it. I hope with a bit more success, you will add to it. Good place to practice writing your story, too. I tinkered around and then started writing to newspapers and legislators.

Anyway, glad you are on a better path!

I remember when I was a smoker, my Dr was eager to get me on Chantax, big surprise. I left his office with a fistful of free Chantax samples. Luckily I had heard of the horror stories from former users. I was desperate to quit smoking, yet afraid of the drug. After a little consideration I flushed the Chantax down the toilet without ever trying it. A few years later I was told about vapeing, solved that problem :vapor:
