So I'm still new to all of this, but it's hunting season. I never used to smoke analogs while hunting, but vaping is a different story. Is there anyone else out there that vapes while hunting? I'm wondering if there are any flavors out there that deer would actually like and find attractive unlike tobacco. I'm sure some maple or apple flavors would be best, but has anyone actually tested any of this? Anyone seen deer react one way or another to any vapors? I'm thinking IF the flavor is right I could vape all day in the woods and call some deer in at the same time. Anybody else?

I can't see it as being a problem. I used to smoke stinkies while deer hunting and had them come right up to me. In fact, one doe got so close, I thumped my cig at her because she was about to touch me. Deer aren't put off by anything BUT human smells, and movement. Of course, maybe we just have dumb Arkansas hillbilly deer here.

Are you anywhere near Friendship?

I was vaping in a tree last Saturday and had several deer walk right in front of me. I plan on doing the same tomorrow. I have always smoked while hunting and never had a problem, ckeck my profile pic. Not a trophy but it,s good meat in the freezer.

Happy vaping in the woods and good luck.

Take it easy-n-at,
Jeff

I know they are attracted to persimmons as we use that around our stands along with corn, salt blocks, and food plots. Honestly have never tasted one but there are receipes for them on the interweb. Also the deer and bears seem to be attracted to "crab apples" but humans aren't suppose to eat those I don't think. Saw this thread and made me start thinking haha

Never eat green persimmon!
Yes, as a matter of fact, you CAN eat crab apples. Go to cooks.com and take a look.

I never see deer dung here without persimmon seeds.

Speaking of Vaping while hunting ...... ;-)~
Average Hunter: The Vapor Maker & A Braggin Dad. <--- maybe you could buy just the scent and vape it... lol

I'm a duck hunter. I would occaisionally smoke cigs in the blind but this will be my first year as a "vapor" I suspect vaping will be easier and less conspicuous than smoking. Season starts in about ten days for us. I will let you know.

Wow, those are some pretty naive deer you've got there. We have alot of hunters in my area and the deer will not tolerate any tobacco or other unnatural smells. They learn to associate those things with danger very quickly. Of course, there's a difference between bow season and gun season: you can get away with more with a gun in your hand. I would never smoke during bow season, but I'm going to try some experiments to see what they actually think of it. Sounds like new territory here ;)
Oh yeah, I'm way north of Friendship, up by Fort Wayne....

I have to disagree, as I've taken too many deer while smoking. Deer are very curious creatures, and will investigate strange things. Sound and sight of humans will scare them off. I shot a buck with a bow from 20 yards, sitting on a tree stump while smoking a cigarette. I have also hunted near Santa Claus, Indiana while smoking, and took a large buck. People pay too much attention to urban myths, and are confused on what does and doesn't alert a deer. I still hunt, never from a stand.

If you think deer are too sensitive to unnatural smells, then you shouldn't be vaping either! You also shouldn't shampoo your hair, bathe with soap, or breathe because they're sensitive olfactories will be able to detect whatever you have eaten. Even your boots will pick up scents such as whatever you have walked on, motor oil or antifreeze, for example. Deer can smell about as well as a dog, and there is nothing one can do to cover their scent to fool a dog's nose

I asked about Friendship because I go to the annual muzzle loading competition there every year.

Maybe some juice suppliers could come up with an Alfalfa or Corn juice. I do know the scent of a horse cover up the human scent. My husband hangs his hunting clothes in the barn for a week before going in the woods.

The main problem people fail to understand is that you can't cover your scent, no matter what. Like I said in my earlier post, deer can still smell anything, just like dogs can. A deer's nose is almost as sensitive as a dog, and dogs can smell dope easily, and track three day old scent trails. If one buys a de-scenting product, then gets into their car or truck, they will pick up what ever scent is in the vehicle. What ever one eats carries a scent. What ever one walks on carries a scent. The smell from your car's exhaust carries for miles, and also permeates clothing.

I'm a veteran hunter with over 40 years of successful hunting, and never hunted out of a tree. I've never bought into the gadgets on the market that make people rich, and still leave hunters without game. If one scares a deer off, then they are missing proper hunting techniques.

I do carry apples, and sometimes persimmons. Deer LOVE those smells!

And they still come home with no deer, right?! The human body release odors though the skin which can't be masked. Enough of my rant!

I agree, my hunting friends are crazy with scent: They keep their hunting clothes in a scent free bag, change at the spot where the hunting will be, use special unscented deodorant, etc.

Last two bucks I got, I got them walking around with a red marlboro on my mouth...

I have to disagree with you flintlock. You can get away with alot with a gun in your hand, but try smoking a cigarette while bowhunting and see how many deer get downwind of you and stick around. I've been doing this for a long time too. No, you can't cover up EVERYTHING, but you CAN reduce the scents you give off to low enough levels where it doesn't matter. This is what Scent Lok is for. We have scent eliminating soaps and shampoos, sprays for boots and things. I sure wish I had stupid deer by me! Santa Claus is down in the middle of nowhere, while I'm up here with TONS more people and pressure. They DO associate unnatural smells with people, there's nobody in the hunting industry who would refute that. As Bill Winke likes to point out, you'll never see the ones that DO smell you. Either way, we're off the initial topic of what I was asking....
