This was suggested to me as a great new thread over in the New Members Forum. I will bring it here and keep in mind, this is just a copy of my post which shifted the discussion from vaping in public to vaping while driving.

How about while driving? In NY the cell phones while driving thing has been kind of a big deal ticket for a while now. The way the law reads you aren't allowed to use any "hand-held electronic devices" while operating a motor vehicle. Technically, our PV devices would qualify there. Has anyone had a run in with the law over this?

That being copied (hehe), I don't for a second hesitate to use my PV while behind the wheel, but it is something which has weighed heavily on my mind since I started vaping.

Commence discussion!

Or, trying to see & adjust an eGo twist.

LOL, yeah, you should figure out all your settings before you start rolling. And have a backup, both in an easy to reach place such as a cup holder, so you're not fiddling/trying to find anything. Essentially, you shouldn't have to focus on anything but driving.

Its kind of funny how setting your GPS on your windshield is okay but setting it on your smart phone is not. I swapped my tanks yesterday and figured that is about as dangerous as sending a text message while driving. I have decided if I must change tanks it would be best to pull over and do it while the vehicle is in park.

The wording changed at the point where they wrote in texting being a problem. For a few years you just weren't allowed to talk on the phone... if I remember correctly the hand-held electronic devices part happened later when they banned texting and other functions you might perform with your cell phones.

Or, trying to see & adjust an eGo twist

I have trouble adjusting my twist while stationary, under perfect light, and using my full attention...BUT, they remain my backup device of choice due to their extremely low cost and portability. Whenever I go out, the twist is what I take with me. If I drop it in a lapse of concentration...so what? Also noteworthy, the twist is unbelievably consistent in it's output in my experience. I have put all five of the ones me and my girl own on my Fluke 333 true RMA multimeter and they are all:

"calibrated by top members of the state AND federal Department of Weights and Measures... to be dead on balls accurate!"

Thank you, Ms Vito.

Here in Toronto, the law states hand held devices are not permitted, the penalty being fines and points toward a licsence, I Vape and drive but do keep it low if I'm around a police officer just in case. I've also wondered if our pv's would be included, but I'm not sure as to the letter of this law. Just the same I'm not worried. I'm very interested if anyone does have a run in.

I just had another thought about this topic...

I have had 5 or 6 people tell me it looked like I was doing drugs while I was vaping. Considering that these are mostly people who didn't even know of vaping's existence (beyond njoy/blu and the ilk), I'm sure most members of law enforcement are aware of our PVs and their intended use. I can still see getting hassled based on the "it looks like drugs" reaction, in my experience I have dealt with a lot of closed minded and maybe under-educated members of law enforcement... My very long dreadlocks already get me profiled to as it is.

In NY we don't have roads good enough to have laws so i'll vape all i wan't. they deffinitely don't wan't me to be without it while driving. people are inconsiderate and agitating. As for the dreads, yeah i can see the profiling but at least for now its a free country

Good point on the quality of the infrastructure, I've done a ton of traveling with my band and the only states that seem pretty good are the ones that don't have anyone living in them, less drivers I suppose. You can't go 3 blocks in Rochester without seeing a police car, but the city cops don't really care about anything unless you are selling crack or murdering people.

I think you'd have to run into a pretty crooked cop to be cited for an electronic device violation with a PV. If you think about it, taking a sip out of a bottle of water is more distracting than vaping while behind the wheel. And just to be clear, I'm talking about raising the pv to your mouth, and pressing the button. If your tinkering with your equpiment ie: changing tanks, or settings, that's a different story.

That being said, I'm still very aware of my surroundings while driving, and I don't use my PV if there is a squad car nearby. I don't need a cop barking down my throat because he thinks I'm doing something illegal. Hopefully as time goes on, and PV's become more well known, this will change. I hope a few years down the road I can comfortably use a pv in front of law enforcement just like I used to with cigarettes.

I agree! As long as we're not killing people we'll be out of sight out of mind. (As the driving law goes, too late for the idea of taxation lol).
