Vaping and Nicorette combined?

I have been lurking and found this site and everyone's insight really helpful.
After six months' dual use, I am now testing the waters to see how I get on without the ciggies. Yesterday, I realise there were only four left in the pack. I finished them by 5.30pm, so it has now been 24 hours without an analogue - the longest I have gone without for about 15 years. Yay!

I fly a lot of long haul, so have a bunch of nicorette microtabs 2mg and a quickmist lying around. To help me through these first few weeks, I figured I would interchange with these to knock the worst cravings. It really, really helped this morning and made the 'loss' of the first morning ciggie less painful. I was also thinking it could help me not get into crazy chain-vaping. One of the things which has held me back from switching is that I am a bit nervous about vaping in public as noone I know are vaping and they all find it a bit odd (I know, I know - smoking is much more obnoxious, but somehow more normal-looking).

Any views on this? Anyone tried a similar approach? To be honest, I just wants something that works. I have a run a very demanding business and can't afford to be unfocused or angsty even for a few weeks.

About my vaping/smoking: 25 year's smoking. 1-2 packs a day for a decade. Now using Provari and istick at home and ego outside, combined with nautilus and aerotanks. My rotation is one giant bottle of 24mg MBV 555, 15mg Vermillion River KPB and 12mg Pink Spot Peach Pit Tobacco (and various fruits for fun). It's almost impossible to get anything above 12mg where I live, but I can't do 555 all the time.

Sorry for the long post - but it's a big step and could do with some feedback. I know the next weeks will be a bit tough and thought I'd finally sign up and join you lovely people!

I'd say use whatever helps you get past the first few weeks. Personally i believe that the nicotine only makes up for about 15-20% of the cravings. The rest is habitual and other cigarette ingredients. I haven't smoked for almost 18 months and despite my nic intake being fairly high, periods without vaping are a lot easier than it ever was with cigarettes.

My transition I was working as a fast food line cook, I took a similar approach, dual using Nicorette or Generic Nicotine Lozenges in 4mg strength while busy until I could go out for the occasional vape break. Still use them in 2mg now if I know it will be about 4 or more hours before I can get to have a break or can vape at all. At home I chain vape pretty much, or on days off. So if it is what you need to get off the stinkies, by all means go ahead and dual use vaping mixed with Nic gum, lozenges, patches, sprays, if worse comes to worse heck I'd even suggest SNUS over a ciggie all day long until you are over the hump and detoxed off ciggies, like I said, depending on my situation, I plan accordingly, 3yrs cig free this Mid-November coming up.

Juice recommendations, being you are in the Red Dot of SG, kinda hard to suggest anything.

Thanks - wow - such quick response. Really appreciate it - as you know these first days are a bit rough, so the support is vastly appreciated. Good to hear I am not committing some cardinal sin so will carry on with the tabs and buy a truckload when in Europe next week.

Thankfully not in 'Red Dot' Lion City, but in Kuala Lumpur which actually has some of the best vape shops in the world. We get all the premium brands here and some great local stuff. But for some reason very few brands are available above 12mg.

It's all better than smoking. I don't think there's anything wrong with switching off between different nicotine delivery methods. I don't fly often, but when I do, nicotine gum is what keeps me sane.

As for not being able to find liquids stronger than 12mg, can you get a hold of some 100mg base? If you buy it in Europe, 72mg might be easier to find. Do the math and use that to "spike" you weaker liquids to whatever strength you want. Used that way, a little bit will last a LONG time.

Another thing to consider is that in the short term, sufficient amounts of nic will stifle the cigarette cravings, but there are other active/addictive substances in tobacco. The lack of these may cause cravings to return after a period of days or weeks no matter how much straight nic you're consuming via vaping or orally. I've found having a WTA (Whole Tobacco Alkaloid) liquid in your rotation helps a lot with that.

I still use lozenges, mostly on plane flights. I completely understand being self conscience about vaping out in public. I went thru that in the beginning and I was using cig-sized batteries. Trust me, it's not a big deal. Almost nobody will notice, and those that do will be more likely curious...a good chance to educate or make a convert. Find a good stealthy device like an Ego One or similar and enjoy the outside world.

Congratulations on your first day smoke free and welcome to the forum.

It may be easier to quit if you think of vaping as replacing cigarettes. Your not quiting smoking your replacing it with safer vapor.

A strong enough nicotine for the device will be helpful. Different setups have different delivery rates of nicotine. Based on power and efficiency. If you can't get nic strong enough for you setup then maybe you need to change your setup or atty to one that intensifies the vapor more and increases nicotine delivery. One that can handle more power.

Anyway I know vaping in public can be hard at first. There are more people that know about it than you think. Just get over the hump and do it, it will become much easier after the first time.. Your not doing anything wrong.

I can understand his paranoia, his profile shows Singapore, and he states he lives near it not exactly in Singapore, SG it is illegal to vape at all in public, get caught vaping in public you get fined and equipment confiscated.

While in Europe, look at getting some Nicotine base, say in the 24 to 36mg level, and add a few drops of that to your 12mg juices to make it an 18mg, example, 50/50 blend, 50% the 12mg plus 50% 24mg Nic Base = 36/2=18mg ending strength.

I am a chain vaper. Not surprising after 40 years hand rolling chain smoker. being a careless man I dont mind whatever other people thinks of me. (Once I had noticed I had different shooes on my feet) I agree it is a convert collector all right. With a cloupor and a taifun gtII on top it may seem weird but I dont mind.
I have never smoked a cigarette in plane's WC and most of my collagues astonished. Even for a 10 hours flight.
The reason was it was a pleasure for me a ritual, smoking. I couldnt go to a narrow place put damp tissues to smoke detector and smoke and call it a pleasure.
Most of the smoking is gestures Even after 3 years (Almost) I notice a click of a lighter and it calls something within me.
I never had any cravings since I began vaping. But again I am a retired man and nobody compells me to anything.
If you get the better of gesture part do whatever you like for not to smoke again. Just be carefull not to overload nic.

Appreciate the understanding: Here in Malaysia it's not a big issue, but indeed I spend a lot of time in countries where vaping is banned or where the status is uncertain/problematic; Singapore, Thailand, Dubai and Brazil. So I feel like I need a backup. Earlier this year I managed to cut down to 5 cigs, but then my smoking escalated as I spent a lot of time in these countries and didnt want to risk bringing my nice gear through customs and my cheap ego simply wasn't good enough to keep the cravings at bay.

Yes - I will try the idea of high nic base to mix. Now on day 2, I am definitely doing better with my 24mg (and feel less need for the microtabs), but the 555 gets a bit sickening after a while. I've found some Peach Pit Tobacco concentrate, so that should be fine once I get a high-nic base. Then it's only my beloved Kentucky Premium Blend outstanding. I might end up shelling up the $50 postage charges from the US (not sure why it's only possible to get 10ml bottles in EU and only up to 20mg.).

P.s. I'm a she ;-)

5 days in. This really seems to be working. I keep my nic-craving down with nicorette and vape to enjoy it, rather than to stop jitters. So much more enjoyable, and I no longer feel the need to have the vape permanently attached to my lips. Just got off a 17 hour flight, which was so much less painful than when I smoked. Didn't feel the need to stealthvape or run outside to vape when I landed, but enjoyed my Kentucky Premium Blend when I got home and had my morning coffee. Not sure how this will pan out longer-term, but my focus is on staying off cigarettes. Still have a pang or two - particularly in the evening and had a small crisis earlier in the week (made it to the sore to buy cigs, only to realize I didn't bring enough cash for a pack). Still worry about this weekend when I'll be out socialising/drinking. Hoping I'll soon get that 'yuck stinkies' moment that many on this board talks about. Till then will just spend my 'crisis times' on this board - it's a really big help!
