I found topics in the other forums but they were closed so I'm going to start a new one. I cant really find a good answer to this, is vaping around other people and animals harmful?

I vape indoors and my kid is only complaining about the smell, my wife says she doesn't smell anything, my co worker claims it is making him sick and can smell it yet he is 10 ft away!!!

I mainly vape in my man cave in my house and behind me is my hamster (3 ft away) he is in a glass tank and yes its 20 gallons :)

anyways if its bad for them I will go outside, does anyone know?

thanks

most people complain about your vape because they can.
its called passive aggression. your kids are smart. they
found a way to tweak you and you can't really argue back
about it.
your co-worker is a jerk.

current science indicates vaping is 98% plus or minus 1%
safer than smoking for the user. i would think exhaled vapor
would have to be just as much safer than cigarette smoke.
that means it would be impossible for exhaled vapor
to be harmful to a non-user.

When I'm around other people who are not used to vaping or in the office, I tend to hold the vapour in my lungs and hold my breath for 10 secs or so, and then not only do you get a bigger nicotine hit and not need to take more drags, but also when you breathe out, there is hardly any vapour left....

I have a sister who is allergic to citric acid. I can't vape ANYTHING with citric acid ANYWHERE near her. Not even in the next room. The same thing happens to her if you peel an orange and she is in the next room.

If I vape anything (even non citric flavors) that emits large volumes of vapor (even a nautilus with the new BVC's) she starts coughing. It's not a "fake" cough. She loves the scent of my "non citrus" vape but can't be around large volume vapor without her respiratory system giving her fits.

too bad that co-worker doesn't have the same common sense as the Hamster

lol yeah he keeps saying hes not lying and its making him cough and feel sick.. I blow the vape towards the ceiling and im by the door to the outside hallway..

it is against the law to vape in the office in nj thanks to that fat ... chris Christie but my manager and coo said they don't care but I guess if enough people complain, I wont be allowed anymore though 2 others vape but theyre in dif depts

Except for the sweet smell and any potential allergies, vapor shouldn't affect anyone around you. I always enjoy someone noticing me vape and then getting all upset and acting like their sick, when I've been stealthing it next to them for a long time and they didn't even notice. And many times they are not lying, it's just psychosomatic. That being said, I always try to be respectful when vaping around others. I wouldn't cloud out a small space shared with a person who doesn't vape, but I would certainly feel comfortable vaping discreetly if it's allowed.

My sister has shown a sensitivity to some of my vapes. She does have a few allergies, and she's NOT the type to "fake" things. She will get congested and stuffy, so I simply don't vape around her. No one else I vape around has ever displayed any sort of reaction to my vape, other than "Man, that smells GOOD!!".

As to the hamster, I really couldn't say. My two dogs and my cat are perfectly healthy, according to the vet, and I have been vaping around them for over a year.

Edited to add: My sister has only reacted when in close proximity - like in the car or in a small room together.

Oops posted in the wrong thread. I guess I'll post while I'm at it.

Certain flavors, especially the ones I like, are actually pretty noticeable on the exhale for people around me. Most people don't mind, but if you're in another person's place or somewhere without open circulation, you should respect the other's wishes.

E-cigs have not been proven safe or unsafe, so I think it's better to take precautions.

Treat your e-cig as if it were a cig, and don't use it in any place you wouldn't smoke a cigarette and you'll be fine.

If you need to, do a stealth puff and don't cause any extra attention to yourself.

Most e-cig flavors are artificial flavors, some of that in the air really could make people sick. I'm not surprised. If I was a non-smoker/non-vaper I wouldn't want someone blowing clouds up into the air around me either. I'm happy that most people I'm around don't mind, but I have run into one good friend of mine that does.

Don't discredit peoples sensitivity. I have no problems with any vape smells but if I walk in to a house that has a scented candle burning or a glade plug in it drives my nose bat crap. Try unflavored around those sensitive people.

Oh man. A very good friend of mine reacts badly to those things (Glade plug-ins and the like). He's sneezing, sniffling, and coughing within 15 minutes of being in his dad's house (Dad is a Plug-in junkie and has one in EVERY room of the house!).

1. If you're vaping within 10ft of someone for a long time, they will pick up nicotine. However, the amounts are very, very small. The one study I saw on it basically said if you were in a bar for 2-3 hours with a haze of vapor you'd pick up about the amount of nicotine you'd get if you ate a potato. I know, who knew potatoes had nicotine?

2. Eliquids can have a room smell, depending on the flavors and ingredients, that can be strong and cloying and very different from what you're tasting while you vape. Different people will react differently; I hate floral perfumes, and have felt sick when exposed to it in an enclosed space for too long. However the person wearing it obviously thought it was OK, and she was married so she'd convinced someone else it was OK.

3. Even if it's 100% non-noticeable, a lot of people wig out about it and find the whole thing icky. Not arguing the merits, there's something funny about worrying about passing through someone's vapor walking down the street while a bus is chugging out vumes next to them -- but it's the awareness. If they're anxious about it, and it feels like you are doing something that invades their personal space they can't control, it can become psychosomatic real quick.

Frankly, regardless of the merits, do you want to be making someone feel that way? If you're in an enclosed work setting, the other person doesn't have a choice about being there, and if you were eating bags of microwave popcorn every day it'd be considered kind of rude if it bothers someone else. Or was lighting up aroma candles. See if they'd be OK if you found a flavor that didn't smell or smelled differently, and if that isn't doing it head outside.

A lot of people are programmed to dislike smoke. That's a good thing because where there's smoke there's usually fire. Even if a person has a reasonably good concept that vaping makes vapor not smoke, that reflex can still be hard to get past for some people.

When I'm around people who don't vape I ask them if it's OK to vape before I take the first drag. If they have any qualms about it I don't do it around them. I vape around my dog all the time. She doesn't mind it and if I thought it could harm her I wouldn't do it. I don't blow vapor in her face.

I have vaped around my grand kids who are both 6 months old now. I will stop doing that soon though as I don't want to give them the opportunity to emulate that when they get older.

I have not done any research on hamsters so I don't have an opinion. It should be fairly easy to find out how sensitive they are to the components in vapor.

As much as I would personally enjoy vaping at work, I'm not going to.

In a small family owned business, I guess the business can do whatever they want. In most corporate settings, though, even if the state isn't explicitly forbidding it, it will be considered somewhat inconsiderate to vape. And it will give company whiners something to whine about.

The microwave popcorn example is a good one.
