I used to be a smoker, and when I was one, I hid my habit from the children. I never smoked around them, only ever outside, and they never saw me with one in my hand once.

But since I switched to vaping, I feel less of a need to be discreet. Now, I vap inside and when I vap around them, I do so nonchalantly and don't make a big deal of it. I don't hit off my Vamo around them, just my V2 e-cig, so I am not fogging up the area and my e-cig look like stainless steel pen and not a smoke. My eldest boy, 8, asked me about it once and I just dismisssed it as it being medicine like his younger brother's inhaler -- I couldn't bring myself to say I was vaping. For the most part though, they don't pay it much mind.

Am I being to brash about my new hobby? I think it was good not to influence my kids to smoke by hiding the fact that I did from them, but should I show more discretion towards vaping around them?

It sounds like you have one that uses an inhaler, and they are young, so you can probably get away with it.
Just giving them a simple answer seems to satisfy the curiosity for right now, and they will grow up with it being "normal" to see you vaping.
But .. be ready with some better answers as they grow up, and get wiser.
I totally agree with your hiding when smoking the stinkies.
Congrat's on the healthy choice and getting away from them

It's a tough one to answer, so just go with your gut .. it's usually the right answer.

Just keep the juice locked up tight you don't wish to let them get into it.
I vape with the grand kids near me and it's all good
I don't let them sit in my lap if I'm vaping but that's just me .
Best wishes

What about vaping around the kitty? (in ur avatar). I worry about the mist around my electronics and cats, since I haven't smoked inside for over 4 years (and moved to a totally smoke free building with central air). I must say the vaping in the morning, or this evening with a brandy, is the heaviest. Should I be worried about laptops, cats (if I don't blow it in their faces, but it floats Round), etc, and go outside like I did with stickies? Sometimes I turn on the kitchen fan, worried about the pg and cats.

Hmm...Having grown up in the fifties surrounded by members of "The Greatest Generation" smoking their brains out after having successfully saved democracy I don't think it should be a concern where you vape. It doesn't hurt them and they will discover your weaknesses over time and do exactly what they want regardless of them. Enjoy yourself and don't be so uptight, YOU only live once.

My kids knew I smoked, and they didn't like the smell, I never smoked around them or in the house at all, but they smelled it on me. They are still young, but have noticed I don't go outside as much now, they also like the smell when they come into my man-cave. They are proud that I quit smoking and tell me they are glad I'm not going to die early.

Agree that would be up to you. There are kids who grew up to be smokers even when brought up in non smoking environment. Now we have vaporing. Who knows what will we have down the road.

If my kids were younger, I would use it as an opportunity to talk to them about smoking.

This.

I grew up in a smoke-free home and my dad quit smokeless tobacco when I was 10. I still managed to start smoking at 15 until I was 23. I would use vaping to discus smoking and the dangers etc. I am not a parent so take this with a grain of salt, I just related to the above posts.

These are YOUR children so do as you see fit for yourself and their well being. Best of luck

I have nieces and nephews that find my APVs verrrry interesting. Too interesting. They literally ask me to use them. When they are out in the cold with their fathers they blow the steam from their breath, acting like they are smoking a cigarette like daddy. I tell the youngest ones that what I'm using is like my medicine, I need it to feel healthy. Its dangerous for them though, because you can't take someone else's medicine. I tell the older ones that they are my quit smoking aids. I use them because I got addicted to smoking, and so I switched to vaping from these little machines because it is healthier and safer for me. They seem to understand, but they think my PVs are "COOOL"

Idk. I'm not going to hide my PVs from them if their fathers aren't going to hide their cigarettes from them. I'm just going to have to keep my eyes wide open for the opportune age to tell each of them that addiction is an inconvenient disease, not something cool. Until then, they can wish they were old enough all they want... But eventually they'll be told that nicotine & drugs are bad news. Its up to them and their personalities and their environments and friends that will dictate if they will want to vape when they come of age.

That's exactly what I did. My kids never knew I smoked. For the first couple of weeks, I didn't vape around them either. Then the 11 year old saw me and asked about it. Without stating that I actually was a smoker, I explained to both of them what vaping was and they were very cool with it. Now I vape around them all the time.

i smoked inside at my computer for years and was always having to replace fans and heatsinks from cig ash and cat fur. now its just cat fur that clogging my machines. i have 5 cats and a dog plus 3 kids ages 7 9 and 13. the 7 and 13 yr old having asthma and since i started vaping the number of asthma attacks has drop to near ZERO. i still crack the window in the car when traveling, but i dont see any issues with computer and vaping and the cats and dog go away if they dont like the smell of what i am vaping, not so much now that i only really use 2 flavors.
