Hi
I am a non smoker, never been a smoker.
A friend of mine has a eGo vaporiser thingy and I had a puff and some of the flavours are amazing!

As a chubby person myself, it got me thinking that a lot of snacking that is done is because of craving something sweet. So I thought about buying myself one of these, with nicotine free (No nicotine because I don't want a un needed addiction), so when I have a craving that would leed to picking up a sweet, have a puff of a nice sweet flavour ... I would get my sweet fix, but without calories or putting on weight.

What do you all think?

I saw a spot in the news a while back where there was a "restaurant/flavor bar" opening (don't ask me I can't remember where, probably NYC, and it was not an ecig shop) where people could go and vape food flavors from a contraption that looked like a hookah. They were advertising it as the same as eating bacon, chocolate cake, cinnamon rolls, etc., without the calories.

Originally (50's?), smoking was marketed to ladies to keep their figure. Nicotine is a stimulant and appetite suppressant. Caffeine has similar effects, and risks, and is present in many modern weight-loss pills.

If vaping a sweet non-nicotine e-liquid can truly control those cravings, it may be less harmful than binging on Twinkies. Still, I don't think the vaping community wants the next big fad to be non-smokers picking up vaping for weight loss. There's enough heat from the FDA as it is.

Just be sure to educate yourself on the potential risks associated with nicotine-free vaping, and familiarize yourself with the ingredients, which are propylene glycol, vegetable glycerin, and flavorings.

Vaping is by no means risk-less. You have to pay attention to how YOU and YOUR body specifically reacts to vaping. A few people have experienced adverse reactions to PG or VG, or at least claim they have, although this is not at all common. The biggest risk lies with the flavorings. You have to pay attention to the possible presence of specific compounds known to be harmful, such as diacetyl, which is used to mimic buttery flavors. Diacetyl is what caused "popcorn lung" that killed several factory workers who produced microwave popcorn. The majority of vendors are responsible and do their best to minimize risk by only using flavorings that are reduced risk, but there is still a lot that we don't know about the effects of vaporizing flavor molecules. There are new studies coming out all the time that are proving that vaping poses little to no harm, but ultimately the responsibility lies with YOU to be as informed as possible.

You have to understand that the majority of vapers are reducing their risk by switching from smoking, which creates thousands of harmful carcinogens, down to vaping, which is not known to create any harmful compounds, but may still pose a risk.

Honestly, if you want to lose weight, you need to embrace the idea of a lifestyle change. As someone who has personally lost 70 pounds through change in diet and committed exercise, you don't need vaping to help you. You need to change your approach to how you view food in general, and you need to hit the gym. If you are serious about making a change and educating yourself, please check out Bodybuilding.com Forums - Bodybuilding And Fitness Board and go the Nutrition and Losing Fat subforums. Tons of great info, opinions, advice, and motivation. It will literally change your life.

I am thinking of doing this along with lifestyle change.

I have been a passive smoker for years, but the person I live with is just about to switch to vaping.

Good, good, good. Definitely check out bodybuilding.com. Like I said, it is a goldmine of information that really helped me get educated and moving on the right path. Don't be intimidated by the term bodybuilding either. It's not like you are going to get swollen overnight and suddenly look like the Incredible Hulk. ;)

Just to help, here is the video that got me off my proverbial @$$ once and for all...NO EXCUSES!!

I have lost incredible amounts of weight since I've been vaping. In my case, I'm an ex-smoker, quit about eight years ago, but heavy drinker. I knew I had to stop drinking at least until I got into shape because the weight I had gained, especially beer belly, had gotten way out of hand. I don't want to get too deeply into vaping as an "on the wagon" aid because people tend to scratch their heads and not know what to think about me, but I can say that I knew I needed something as sort of a crutch if I was going to go cold turkey and if vaping wasn't there, I most certainly would have started smoking cigarettes again. Vaping gives me something to do since I'm not lifting that bottle to my lips anymore, and also I do use nicotine, high amounts of it, and I can tell you, and this is just me personally, I'm not suggesting this will work for everyone, but the effects of nicotine have been an effective replacement for the effects of alcohol. It's very relaxing and calming without negative side effects and if you would have seen me before I started vaping and then see me now, you'd be like WOW, where's the belly.

Sis in Law at 63 was obese along with advanced Rheumatoid Arthritis. She is an emotional eater- devours a bag of chips without thought when upset. BF likes to push her buttons= lottsa munching. She's tried every weight loss prog out there over the past 20 yrs and nothing worked. Got her started (after deep discussion with my wife/ her sister) on zero nic vaping 10 months ago. At this point she's lost 150 lbs and because of that is now able to participate in pain alleviating exercise. Her GP was very skeptical at first saying it was a fad and possibly would do her harm. Harm??? told my wife her sister was well on her way to having some very serious issues from which she might never recover. Wife agreed it was worth a shot.
Realize this was a special situation whereby SIL could not exercise not only because of her weight but also her arthritis. Told her losing weight was just step 1 as she had always told me "I want to exercise but it's too painful"...I now have her enrolled in a specialty aerobics aquatic prog. She's toning up nicely, still losing weight and is ever so happy. Her emotional buttons??? still there but at least now she has a much healthier outlet.

I hate to say it but this is one area where the ecig hasn't helped me. I've put on 20lbs in the last 2 years. Course retirement and being lazy could have been part of it.

For some previous long-term smokers, it's also that you can TASTE things again....it can make some foods enjoyable again

Wow that is brilliant! Good for her!

See it can work! That was my plan, zero nicotine, would stop snacking, also be a stress releiver rather than reaching for the high caloric foods...
Along with an active lifestyle, this would just be an aid for me, not the main weightloss program

And like you say, which is worse, diabetes, heart disease or a coronary ... or a little vapor - I know which I prefer!

Like spaceballrules said there is no guarantee that vaping is risk free but for myself as a smoker and my SIL it was a last chance. I agree with Space about the exercise portion. I used to be so involved in all sports- was actually offered a few scholarships. I wanted to participate but my lungs always said no thanks. After vaping for 6 months I started doing small stuff- walking a senior's dog. Using stairs instead of the elevator. Going shopping- rather than just going directly to where I needed stuff I'd force myself to walk up and down every aisle in the store.
The secret for me to to choose an exercise that I really enjoy- swimming, jogging, rowing, sailing, bowling, soccer, lacrosse, football, martial arts- there's just so much to choose from for all of us.
Stopping smoking was a HUGE bonus in my life but being able to do the things I really, really enjoyed was just an added bonus.
In regards to health, happiness and feeling better both physically and emotionally- without smoking maybe a 5 out of 10. With exercise that # goes up to 8.
Whatever your choices Wishing You the Very Best of Luck.
