To be honest, I'm kind of glad when I go to Point Pleasant the beach is restricted pretty much to residents/people who are lucky enough to get "badges". That place is quite nice and I wouldn't want it overrun with the random day-trippers who, moreso than the residents, give the Jersey shore its bad reputation.

That said: I was never hassled at the Point Pleasant beach when I used to vape there (or smoke there, when I was a smoker).

Interesting.

Maybe all those badge holders should step up and volunteer to share the taxpayers ENTIRE expense for upkeep etc.

Im all for you having private beaches....as long as my tax dollars don't pay for it.
;)

I'm pretty sure beach upkeep/taxes related to that are only applicable to people who live in the county. I mean, I could be mistaken, but it'd be silly if I was paying taxes for the beaches in South Jersey even though I live 2 hours away, in North Jersey.

Either way, my ex-s/o was the one who granted me access to the Point Pleasant beaches, and now that we're separated, I probably won't be heading down there too often. Ahhh, .....

Gonna miss that beach house, man.

I'm confused then.
Does every single taxpayer in the county have a "badge" that allows them use?
Or do they have to pay extra for permission to use the beach their tax dollars pay for?

You mentioned being "lucky" enough to have a "badge" that allows access.

Shouldn't every taxpayer have access without paying again?

Not every taxpayer in the county has a badge, but the people who live in the town have access to "seasonal" badges which grant access for an extended period of time (not sure if a season means the whole year), I don't think day-trippers can buy a seasonal badge unless they have a house in the area. During certain times of year they just flat-out don't sell day passes, either have a seasonal badge or go find another beach. In essence, yes, the taxpayers do end up paying extra for access to the beach.

Every tax payer should have access, but that's not really how it works. Among other things, there are a LOT of different beaches down at the Jersey shore, but I think all of them require some sort of badge of some kind. Some are more frequented by day trippers and others are almost exclusively people who are renting houses or own houses in the area.

I see.
All County taxpayers pay for the beach, but can't use it unless they pay for permission to use the beach they already paid for.

So only people That can afford to pay get to use public beach?

Very interesting. Very much like discrimination.

Why wouldn't your ID be enough?
It would verify you as a resident taxpayer.

I mean, is it right? Not really, no. Is it how things are? Yeah, I don't make the rules.

Also many people who have houses down at the beach don't live there full time, they're sort of summer houses/beach houses -- a lot of them even rent out their houses during the winter months/when they're not using them. So many of them would have ID's that don't have their summer home address on it.

Sidebar, but worth mentioning: most people who have a beach house are totally exempt from receiving government financial aid (for college) simply because the value of their property exceeds the amount which makes them eligible for government aid. Kinda understandable. The property by the Jersey shore is worth a lot, so shelling out an additional 90$/year for beach access or whatever isn't that big of a deal.

$90 a year to use a public beach your tax dollars pay for?

It's actually discrimination, and illegal in most places, but the good people of that county voted to accept it and voted for the people that wrote it, so they must be happy with it. Keeps the lower income residents of the county off the beach.
Jersey right?
Who woulda thunk it?

;)

There are many beaches down at the Jersey Shore, some of which are seedier than others (compare beaches at Seaside to beaches at Point Pleasant, the difference is pretty glaring).

In the end it doesn't affect me all that much anymore, considering I'm not really a beach person and I used to only go to appease the now-ex-s/o.
