I don't know if this has been posted before but it's news to me so I will post it.

The Boston Parks and Recreation Commission has approved a ban on smoking in city-run parks.
The ban approved Monday takes effect immediately and applies to tobacco, ......... and other "lighted or vaporized" substances. Violators face a fine of up to $250.
The ban covers the 251 parks, squares, cemeteries and other spaces run by the Parks and Recreation Department, including Boston Common, the Public Garden and Franklin Park.

I applaud the efforts of the great people who are trying to work through the legal system to stop this kind of madness. I also believe that when this kind of nonsense gets passed into law that we should defy the law. Someone should organize a VAPE IN. Can you imagine ten thousand people showing up with their vaporizers and just sitting down and vaping and refusing to stop or to leave?

I know there would be people who would rather not make such a public statement and would rather fight it using legal methods but I don't think it has to be one way or the other. People need to be made to understand that there is nothing wrong with vaping in public. I also believe that some people would rather try and sneak along the edges and think that as long as we are polite that they will ignore us. Again I don't think the two are mutually exclusive. I think you can be police and still raise public awareness with civil disobedience. Be polite when you are vaping in public. Don't blow clouds in people's faces or vape when it's truly annoying but don't stand for nonsense like this either.

Oh the madness. This reminds me of when I used to live in Denver, CO. We went to Boulder to hit some shops and I was out in the grassy area between the shops smoking a cig and a cop told me to put it out or get fined and not 20 feet away was some deep smoking a joint. The cop busts me for smoking a cig (legal) while totally ignores the dude with a joint which at the time was illegal. The madness of some places.

That horrors! No vaping in the park. Who runs that state? The people have spoken.

Yeah, unruly protest really helped turn popular opinion in favor of the Occupiers. Oh, wait...

The "people" have spoken but were ignored in favor of a TSET, BP, UN grant promise. Short term wad for city officials wins over long term prosperity of the people.

What is needed is 2 days of protest in a row. A fund with enough $$ to pay 2 fines per person. First day, 1000 people vape in the main park. Next day, 1000 people SMOKE in the same park and leave their cigarette butts behind. Or reverse the order and have the 1000 vapers clean up after the 1000 smokers.

But I just gave my spare change to the Utah vape shop owners so I could not put in more than a few bucks.

Good Idea.

The same people will vote for the same politicians in the next election...

Not always. Martha Coakley, one of the lead DAs on the letter to the FDA, is running for gov. of MA. I'd like to see that issue raised as she campaigns. Hopefully that would give more MA vapers food for thought. I know of a few that went 'Really?!' followed by an expletive or two!

The people to campaign for/against are folks running for the CITY offices next time. Local people volunteering even a FEW hours for a candidate's campaign can have a significant impact on the vote balance in a local election. We keep forgetting that campaign donations are spent to get peoples' attention, and there are lots of other ways to do that for local elections. Neighborhood "meet the candidate" coffee klatches. Walking the precincts, talking to folks. This can negate a significant percentage of whatever BP donations went to our enemies.

Berylanna, I agree that we need to work locally as well. That said, a state level campaign has higher visibility with the potential to influence many towns along the way. We should take advantage of all opportunities to get the message out whenever we can. When Martha ran for the senate (and lost) one of the criticisms of her campaign was that she didn't get out and shake enough hands. I expect she will do a bit more of that this time around.

MA is a very blue state and sheeple may automatically vote for the democratic candidate. I was responding to stevemgu's comment that people will vote for the same in the next election. I'm one of Martha's target voters - registered independent, female of a certain age. It is kind of funny how MA often ends up with a republican gov.

Yeah... That would be something.

But my Experience has been that when people do stuff like this, the Backlash tends to be More Tougher Laws and Codes verses the Relaxing of the Existing Ones.

But people should do what they think is Best.

BTW - Was there any Public Comment Section before the Park & Recs Department enacted this Code?

Let's start a Vape Of The Century. (You wouldn't get unless your from at Louis or area)
But Ride of the century is a annual event where the motorcyclist ride in a group of thousands doing stunts down highways lol.

As an employee of a parks and rec dept. thankfully we have no such law as I wouldn't be able to vape at work. Though there was an attempt recently to ban smoking in the city parks, didnt last. Ultimately there is no way to enforce this, (would have been a nightmare) trying to stop and ticket people smoking. Hopefully your city will see this eventually and overturn it like ours did. I could have understood the smoking- mainly because of the absurd amount of cigarette butts i pick up on a daily basis- but vaping?! come on, as far as a public park goes it's better than you could have hoped! no litter and no second hand smoke!

Maybe a Vaping only policy: )

I think this is something that Escapes Many People.

That the Creation of a Code or Law is different from the Viability to Enforce a Code or Law.

That, and that sometimes Codes, and sometimes even Laws, are created to Appease a Segment of the Population. And are not Really seen as a Way to Combat or Control a situation.
