In New Orleans and surrounding area, vaping in bars is ok ( smoking is ok too) in bar/grill vaping is allowed but not smoking due to food being served as more than 50% of the business.
As far as hospitals... down here its a definate NO as far as smoking ( not even in the parking lot but they dont enforce it tho) I did manage to vape ( stealth) in the hospital... the nurse came in the room and asked me what flavor I was doing ( I suppose I was "caught" by her) but she had no qualms about it going on in the room....

New Orleans is awesome and seems more "free" than other places. I'm proud to say I was born there and my sister lives in Metairie.
Happy Mardi Gras. :)

I usually try to stick to areas where smoking is allowed, or I can stealth vape. There isn't any laws against it yet, but it's still and unknown to most people. People fear the unknown. If someone tries to get you to stop, and you explain that it's not a cigarette and it's harmless, they'll probably walk away without arguing. But they walk away feeling like they were right, and you're an .......

When people ask me about smoking in nonsmoking areas, i just tell them that it's not smoke, that i'm exhaling vapour and that inhaling it is about as dangerous as standing above a pot of boiling water. I told this to a waitress that exploded when she saw me "smoking". She yelled so hard i couldn't explain it to her at first.

I try to treat my vaping like I did analogs. I don't like to whip it out in the grocery store or doctor's office. It is annoying. Good for you for vaping but try not to be disrespectful about it. There's a time and place for everything. The laws are really not clear yet in most places but I have found that several places treat it the same as smoking.

You vaped in a cop station! In front of cops! And explained yourself and they left you alone!?!?!?! Hahaha!

LOL As a cop (Customs Officer) myself, I have questions all the time on where I can vape. There are a couple of misinformed "NANNY" senators (one is a former family court judge) here on Guam that are looking into banning Vapeing in public areas where smokeing is prohibited. As of yet, no laws have been passed thankfuly, as the vape scene is growing exponentialy here on our little island paradise. I have no problems with my supervisors when I vape in the Customs inspection area (When no passengers are around) But I am leary of vapeing willy nilly in the main airport areas as there are three other Law enforcement agencies who share jurisdiction. Mostly its about policies and departmental SOP's, I find the best thing is to ask and if I am told no, then go somewhere else. I do hate having to use the little enclosed smoking rooms as I leave reeking.........

Keep educating people on them. Even if only 1% choose to switch thats another live saved. Knowledge is key to the success of the Vaping community and life style

+1 here! There are so many proposed bans on ecigs that it is hard to keep up with. The problem is that there isn't enough strong scientific data available to argue either way (pro or con). This is, in the grand scheme of things, relatively new and most don't have enough info to make a reasonable judgment on their own. The sad part is that since it "looks" like smoking it is grouped within that mindset. It is up to us the participants to let the public know that this is not meat to harm anyone but to help ourselves and the general public to stop smoking and help the stander-by be free from secondhand smoke! The problem we face today is the fear mongering putting a stigmatism on this lifestyle.

It depends on where you live and if the actual business/city has a ban on it. Of course I'd never Vape in a hospital just for respect and you never know if the people there who are sick may have an allergy to pg in the juice.

There's no bans where I live... But bans are popping up everywhere in other states.

I know of two hospitals that allow vaping and even promote it to their smoking patients. Nothing special about a hospital and vaping as long as you do it respectfully. Some hospitals actually use PG in their ventilation systems due to it anti-bacterial properties.

But how will the "uninformed" ever learn the difference is if all they see is people vaping in smoking areas? Their perception will correctly be "vaping must = smoking". I vape openly but respectfully and with common sense. I would not vape in an occupied elevator for example. We all must be well versed in the many positive scientific studies on how vaping is not harmful for anyone in the vicinity and be prepared to educate the uninformed. I have found the vast majority of non-smokers have walked away with a positive perception of vaping from these encounters.

So, basically, let's make sure that everyone has the perception that vaping and smoking are the same thing and dangerous to be around. That is the message we want the uninformed to walk away with.

@wv2win, no. We want non-smokers to view us in a positive light, so that when we tell them it is harmless they might believe us. If we are aggressive and confrontational they will be biased toward not believing us. We need as many friends as we can get.

So we do not vape where it would be disrespectful, and we ask permission first, especially when we are not going to get the opportunity to explain at length, calmly and rationally or where our audience is not going to be willing to listen attentively and with an open mind.

No they don't. :D

These people confront you thinking they've caught somebody smoking. Red-handed. When you throw them the "vaping" curve ball they're just not equipped to deal with that surprise and they simply walk away. Not saying we don't swing anyone to our side but I suspect the vast majority will never be convinced no matter what we preach. It's still just "smoke" coming from our mouths and noses and decades of information has taught them that can't be good. Can't blame 'em really.

So no. I believe very few people that have never smoked never come away from us with any kind of "positive" attitude about vaping. Neutral at best (which is some kind of win I suppose).

Perhaps in my case it's the messenger and not the message. :D

That is why many of us vets advocate to vape openly most places (not all) but respectfully. I am in and out of large office buildings and courthouses on a regular basis and carry my PV with me. I have never had a negative encounter but have had many positive encounters and "Aha" moments with the uninformed non-smokers. Many have thanked me for demonstrating how unobtrusive vaping is and that it is nothing like smoking. Many have loved ones or friends who smoke and now that they have seen vaping up-close, ask for more information.

Quite a few have also stated that since previously they have only seen people using a PV in smoking areas, they believed it was just as nasty and dangerous as smoking.

There may be a few who were just lying to my face, but I think most were genuine in relaying their positive impression.
