For the last 2 weeks I have been vaping the _whole_ day up taking a puff or two every 5 minutes. This seems like a recipe for disaster. How much do you vape per day and how long have you been vaping? I'm trying to figure out a "decent" dosage of vaping. With cigs, I would get sorta of sick or my throat would hurt which would indicate I've been smoking too much. I've not been able to get this feedback from vaping. I have a feeling vaping all day everyday is not a good formula for long term success.

Heyas Foobar,

I've only been vaping for a couple months now, so I'm definitely no expert, but I know how you feel.

At first, I wasn't vaping enough, because I just didn't think about it if I didn't have a nic craving.

From what I've read, the nic in vapor doesn't get absorbed into the bloodstream through the lungs as efficently as smoke. However, the vapor coats your throat/mouth/sinuses, and gets absorbed through the mucous membrane. So, you don't feel the immediate relief from nic craving like you do with an analog, but you'll continue to get nic into your system for a while after your last vape.

Over the course of a month or so, I went from vaping whenever I thought of it and was someplace I was able to and smoking analogs whenever I got cravings, to less and less analogs and more vaping, to no analogs at all about 10 days ago. I cut down on analogs not so much because I wanted to quit smoking, as much as they just tasted more and more GODS awful!

The day after I smoked my last analog, I got my first vv mod, and just went vape crazy! I was lightheaded all day every day, and got frequent headaches. I've since had to lower the nic content of my juice from the ~25mg I use to use, to ~8mg now, which seems to let me vape all I wish without ill effects.

So to answer your question, I don't know :p

I'd say its different for everyone. Vape as often as you wish to, as long as you're not feeling any ill effects from being overnic'd, and as much as you need to in order to avoid those nasty analogs. Experiment with different strength juices, if you want to vape more or less than you are now. If you have a favorite flavor or three, you can order one high strength and one 0mg, and mix it to whatever strength you want.

Hope this helps

I think this is one of the hardest things for new vapers to figure out. I know it was for me.

I too wanted to compare my smoking habit to vaping and pretty much found out you can't. You go down the path of "how many puffs are in a cigarette?" That never worked for me. And since the nicotine is absorbed differently through vaping - you don't get that instantaneious BANG! like you do off a cigarette - you really can't compare vaping frequency to smoking frequency either.

Early on I actually had to work at vaping enough. Seriously. With a .... you light it and smoke it until it's finished. With an e-cig every hit off it is a "pick it up and push a button" effort. It took me a couple few weeks to get my vaping frequency up to a level that reduced my cigarette cravings well enough.

I don't know if this helps: I asked my e-tailer about this issue when I started and she said an average user goes through about 10 ml's of liquid a week. Well, call me average because it turns out that's about what I'm using.

You will need to just kind of wing it and look at how your cravings compare to your vaping usage. If you are getting strong cravings for butts then you may need to increase your vaping frequency or move up to a higher level nicotine. The beauty of quitting with e-cigs is it's highly flexible. Initially that takes a little figuring out. But you get to decide how much nicotine and how often.

Best of luck. You will figure it out.

I tend to vape whenever I find myself wanting an analog. So far so good, but I am getting more frequent cravings so perhaps I need to vape more.

Good Luck-

Hmmm... The caveat I would suggest here is this sounds like the same problem trying to quit with nic gum. With nic-o-gum by the time you know you are experiencing a bad craving - it's too late. Again, you can't get a quick rush of nicotine (or whatever we need to quit analogs) off an e-cig any faster than you can with nicotine gum. For me, chasing the cravings with the gum always resulted in relapsing. Even the instructions sheets included in the gum packages say you should use it on a regular schedule. And I'm not saying nic gum = e-cigs to any huge degree. But perhaps there is a lesson to be learned from the nic gum instructions when it comes to the issue of new users figuring out how to pace their e-cig usage when quitting.

Fortunately, I don't think figuring out that pacing comes too hard. The pacing became almost second nature after a short while. It was the first two to three weeks where I was always questioning: Too often? Not often enough? Higher nic level? Lower nic level, but more often? Stuff like that. The matter sorts itself out if you just pay attention to what your cravings and your body tell you as part of this process and adjust accordingly - even within the same day. Play as part of the process is good.

I posted a thread a few months back with the same concern. Funny but now I just don't think about it - I vape a lot less frequently. I think you go through this when you first give up analogs (assuming that this is the case for you).

Here is what helps me: 1. Stay Hydrated - tons of h2o- very important. 2. Pay attention to your body - if you are nauseous or drooling, your speech becomes impaired etc etc stop for a while, drink water.

Nicotine will make you very sick before it does anything harmful. If you pay attention to your body's signals you will be fine. Excess nicotine will flush from your system within 1 or 2 hours.

Vaping produces much less nicotine per puff than smoking cigarettes. The best way to get the most out of a hit from an ecig is to inhale into your lungs and then slowly exhale through your nose, or french inhale through your nose. The mucous membranes absorb much more nic than your lungs.

Here's a link to multiple studies on vaping. Some look at the nic content obtained in the inhale and exhale from an ecig
CASAA.org

And another that talks about nicotine and the other components of tobacco smoke (MAOIs) and why it satisfies cravings.

This is really relevant for me! I just started vaping yesterday! I bought 18 mg. juices and was dancing on the ceiling!! My hands were all shaky, too.

Today I bought some 0 mg, 4 mg, 8 mg and 11 mg to try. I hope to figure out which strength is right for me. I don't like this "overly caffeinated" feeling!

wow I've never vape enough to make myself drool and if my speach was impaired I would think I was having a stroke, a headache is the first sign of to much nic

I usually tend to increase my vaping every time I get a new piece of equipment. Have to play with the new toy. But it does eventually go back down to my normal frequency.

I started out trying to vape only as often and for as many drags as I used to smoke. But that quickly transformed to vaping more often for fewer drags. At work my ecigs are on my desk but I don't let myself vape constantly and I won't buy any setup that would let me vape while typing. I use only manual batteries (which also are harder to damage and make it easier to get a good hit). At home where I am more likely to overdo vaping, I leave the ecigs in a nearby room so I have to go there to vape. That cuts my vaping down easily to probably no more then every 15 minutes.

In the past 6 weeks I've gone down from 36 mg to 24 mg and every time I've stepped it down I noticed the intensity of my vaping increased but eventually leveled off. I now try and busy myself with things other than vaping. I've noticed when I'm busy I don't get the same strong urges for a vape as when I smoked and that's a HUGE +++++. Don't forget to hydrate. I drink 2 large glasses of water first thing in the morning and about 2 1/2 litres per day. The vaping experience can be dampened by dehydration. I also read a scientist's report where they stated "deprogramming" the brain from analogs takes 6-12 months. At this point I'm not concerned about the amount I'm vaping and am just happy to be analog free. Could be your Nic level isn't strong enough. Depends on your brand and how many PAD you smoked.
Good Luck, Vapoor.

A lot of that has to do with withdrawls from analogs.
