Vaping in bars?

Hey everyone!

Its been a while. I took a hiatus while moving my life to the glorious Twin Cities in Minnesota. I have picked vaping up again ( I fell back to analogs due to high stress and anxiety, almost 2 packs a day! Blech!) and have been smoke free for a while now.

I was curious, in Minnesota there is a law forbidding smoking inside, so I was curious, how do you guys handle that?

Normally if Im at a bar or pub, Ill vape on the more secret side, holding my hit for a bit to exhale as little vapor as possible to not draw attention.

Do you all normally ask the owner or just go outside for a while?

I treat vaping exactly like I did smoking. It helps maintain the ritual for me. If I had to go outside to smoke, I now go outside to vape, even if it is freezing, even at home. I also don't want to deal with someone that doesn't understand it is just vapor and not smoke.

Well... I'm a family man so I have my frosty cold ones at home and not in a bar, but if I did, I would ask before I vaped. No sense not to really.

I have seen 2 establishments with the no smoking but vaping is ok sign on door

had a waitress in one of them ask me if I would explain vaping to a table full of interested people after she saw my vamo and assumed I might know what I was talking about

In a couple of places where folks know me, I asked at the beginning & it's been fine. Sometimes I go outside anyway just to catch up with my old pals.
BUT...one of the places hosts large-ish crowds when certain athletic events are on the big screen. Then, I just go outside since I don't want to take the chance of a "discussion" with someone who might be already wound up about how their team is doing that day.

If its a bar that doesn't allow smoking inside, I will usually ask the bartender if I'm allowed to use my e-cig inside. I have not been told I couldn't yet, but I find its better to ask just in case. It also depends on the crowd and setting I'm in... I don't like people starring or pointing at me if they see me using my e-cig like it's some weird drug paraphernalia device, which does happen sometimes. I feel very comfortable with it at some places, but if there is no smoking allowed and you are the only person inside vaping, it looks very obvious and people usually look at you like "Is she smoking inside?? Oh... what is that thing?!!" I dunno... I just don't like unnecessary attention and sometimes don't want to be bothered with people looking and asking me what it is.

For those of you who now vape indoors, do you think that had any impact on your switch to vaping from cigarettes? Not having to go outside during a Minnesota winter is rather nice.

Its the smokers who will give you trouble,notthe bar tender,they get jealous you get too stay inside and they have too freeze thier behinds off.

I just vape. I recently went to a sports bar in Beaumont, Texas that allows smoking out on the back patio. The smell was unbearable and it was freezing. I just vaped inside, and let the chick I was with vape some panty dropper from my back up ego. Nobody said anything, no funny looks, nothing.

If a bartender or staff member asked me to stop I would have.

I had my first customer ask me if she could vape in the bar. It was awesome and I was far too excited saying, "yes! It's encouraged!"

I assume vapeing is ok...if I am ever asked to stop or go outside I will, I have converted LOTS of people to vape and educated TONS more. The only place I have had problems have been places that allow smoking....go figure

Where I live vaping is legal in bars, but I always ask first.

I've vaped in bars before, and only been asked once to stop. Usually the people working don't mind at all, and even ask me questions about how they work and where to get them.

in minnesota its up to the local city,or town government to decide the issue.
some smaller towns are enacting bans for all the usual reasons except the real one.
they get more grant money from the feds due to the clean air act.
they have to come up with the money some where.have to pay for all those
gravey employee retirement benefits that are not properly funded.
but i digress,saint paul and minneapolis still leave it up to the owners.
there is a list started in the minnesota forum members section here of places
its allowed.
