I usually follow “smoker’s protocol” mostly for the reason that I don’t want to be bothered with either begging an establishment owner to allow me to vape or don’t want to be bothered with long winded explanations to curious onlookers. I’m also not an “in your face” crusader.

My train of thinking is that if I can’t wait a few minutes until I’m outside, then I have a problem that needs addressing.

Okay, so I saw my sister who works at a bar last night. It was my high school reunion. I told her I quit smoking and my aunt ask how and I said I went to vaping. Well of course she wanted to try it. So right there in the bar she took a vape. Well the owner gave us a very dirty look and stated that vaping is not allowed in bars due to excise. You would have thought I was smoking a drug with the look I got from this lady. My sister and aunt are very proud that I have found a way to quit the analogs, though. I just found it odd that you are allowed to vape everywhere else in public except for a bar.... I really don't belive that excise has anything to do with vaping......
Whether it does or doesn't is irrelevant. His bar..his rules.

You of course are free to take your business elsewhere and if there is a vape friendly bar nearby and he loses enough business he may change his policy someday.

Of course her bar her rules, just thought it was odd she would state it was because of excise... that is all. It was just my first experience in public with vaping, and was just sharing.

I felt intimidated when I first started vaping. The devices had to look like the stinkies, or I wasn't interested. I got over that when I tired of changing out batteries every 2-3 hours and got an ego-like Smokeless Image Volt X2. More battery time but cigar sized, I didn't care.

I've since upgraded to full-sized mods. I went to the Bengals intersquad scrimmage at Paul Brown Stadium yesterday. The security to get inside was in full force. Around my neck was my AltSmok BB in a Serenity Gear leather lanyard. In my hand was my Silver Bullet with a 7ml tank. The security guard noted and nodded me to pass through, no questions asked. I actually walked around the concourse discreetly vaping away, hardly anyone paid any attention, even though most smokers congregated outside the stadium security gates.

I openly vape on downtown city streets, festivals, outdoor concerts. I do try to be discreet most of the time; if an area is nonsmoking, I abide as if I was a tobacco user. I don't wish to stir up unneccesary trouble.

So don't be paranoid by others. More than likely they don't give a rat's :censored:

I haven't been vaping long, but I haven't had a negative experience yet. I met a friend as she was getting off work (hostess at Applebee's. I was her ride home for the night) and I was able to openly vape while we sat in the bar. The manager on shift actually came up and was more curious than offended that I was using it. I also had a couple smokers (or I assumed so) just ask me some general questions about my electronic cigarette. (Ego-C Twist 1000mAh with a Vivi Nova 2.5 Tank) I tried to give as much proper information as I could, and told them I learned everything I know about them online! I even pointed a couple of them towards these forums.

But hey, had they asked me to stop I would have stopped. I'm not on a crusade and I'm not looking to make a scene. So if anyone asks me to stop inside of their establishment, I gladly will.

Also, I too follow smokers protocol. Its just last night was different, I didn't think it would matter (referring to my earlier post) when my aunt just took 1 vape just to taste it.

I dig where you are comin' from 1LT....

One puff or ten it shouldn't matter in a bar, and what does excise have to do with vaping in a bar in the first place?

I got my chops busted at a Braves game for taking a few puffs....DOH!

All those groups who are actively trying to ban vaping everywhere definitely want us all to act like we are smokers. They also are very pleased that many who vape are not interested in supporting CASAA and would rather not be bothered with educating the uninformed on what vaping is and is not. At least you won't have any reason to be upset if vaping is banned. But I respect that everyone has different priorities.

Many of us take the position that we should vape just about anywhere but respectfully and be prepared to educate the uninformed when it is reasonable to do so.

Many who have commented have not been around long enough to know what it was like back in 2009 when the FDA went to court twice to have vaping banned everywhere, even in your own home. I remember having packages seized by customs and never received. And no, you didn't get your money back either. And if you think the battle is won, it is far from won and the FDA is continuing to develop plans to ban vaping. And they have powerful allies in Big Pharm, ALA, AHA ASH, etc.

Perception is reality and we as vapers need to do everything possible to present the perception that vaping is nothing like smoking and is harmless (which it is - read the studies) to others. Vaping openly and respectfully and educating others is a big step in the right direction. Joining and supporting CASAA is something that all vapers should want to do if vaping is important to them. Here is a thread that has many good posts on some of the concerns that many of us have on the future of vaping:

Update: I had to go shopping for my dad yesterday, since he's recovering from knee replacement surgery. When I was waiting for a cab outside, I vaped a little TVR Apple Pie (which, for the record, is absolutely amazing). Two cart jockeys come out and sit down near me and light up. When they saw my little blue LED light up, I heard one of them do a giggle-snort. The other one mumbled sarcastically, "so cool".

I mean, I've gotten some flack from never-smokers. You're still smoking, it's just as gross...but this is a whole new level of ignorance. Now I'm apparently pretentious. I had no idea saving money and saving my life was stuck-up, I better call the Cool Police and have them book me for being snooty.

It's been... interesting so far. Back when e-cigs came on the market, I looked at them in disdain. when my friend decided to go with them, I don't even want to echo the things I called him. Now here I am with one and I am proud as hell for it. My bartenders give me crud for it but they do it out of fun (and honestly appreciation). When it started raining, I took shelter under the entrance of an office building and the receptionist came outside to tell me that he would appreciate that I smoked elsewhere. I calmly was about to explain to him what I was actually doing before he said "oh that is an electric kind? nevermind!"

My only problems so far? Smokers. "What the hell are you smoking?" "Ehh, it's just not the same!" BLAHBLAHBLAH. Now I'm very young. And the ridicule I get from some people (my age mind you) is at times disgusting. But my mindset is hellbent on getting off cigs (and at twelve bucks a pack?) and I vape with pride. I found vaping a lot like fashion. There are people who follow the same crowd that has existed for eons and these people are the people that I have learned to not deal with. Say what you want, I'm saving money, I get to stay inside and socialize, my health is getting better, AND I can actually taste what I'm drinking now.

Screw the public, with time, everything will change for the better... as long as you participate in it.

As I just started Vaping I find that I still dont vape in all public places (mostly from habit), but I actually love the attention that I get from it. As a result of vaping in public I know 4 people so far that have ordered vaping kits and will now live a longer healthier life because I vaped in public and thay had to ask what I was doing.
