Hello all,

Ok, couple questions.

1. I can only post in this group.. how long before I am able to start threads in other groups other than the new members one?

2. I am going on vacation in March. I am hoping to be off analogues by then.. SO brings me to the question. Does anyone know if vaping on a plane is legal? Sorry if it is a dumb question.. had to ask.

im new too, but i have done some investigating and it isn't illegal to vape on american planes but i think europe and britain have banned it. but it doesn't matter cuz it has no odor, so you can do it in the bathroom if your flight is too long to wait. but come to think of it, i wonder if the little ecig will pass security.

hmmmm.... i don't know about that one. they could think it is some bomb or weapon. sorry, i guess that wasn't too much help, but i am curious to know myself.

good luck quitting analogs. i have been quit for 18 days

My son in law travels weekly on airlines for work. He carries his Joye 510 and PCC on him through security and on to the plane. He has had to explain what it is to security but never had a problem. On the plane he goes to the bathroom to vape and has had no problems. It is the only reason he flies as a heavy smoker he refused to fly prior to becoming tobacco free.

Check with the airline. Some have policies against it, some don't, but that doesn't necessarily mean it will be problem free. I'd ask a flight attendant, and if they said it was a problem just go in the bathroom as blunderite1 suggested. jmho

Also, you can also post in the new members forum. I believe it's 15 posts before you are a full member. Just saw this, http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...hrough-tsa-chk-point-southwest-no-issues.html

In my several flights using an e-cig, I did not ask, but I did not allow any vapor to be seen. I got a few strange looks from passengers though.

One thing to consider, especially since I have only been on one international round-trip, is if the attendant says it's OK and you blow out a cloud, the Air Marshal sitting behind you might think you're burning something and shoot you in the face. :)

They are perfectly legal to use, but as stated above and in other threads, establishments as airlines reserve the right to allow/ban anything they want. It's better manners to ask but they will say no if they see you blow a huge cloud when you will happily demonstrate. My suggestion is stealth vape without asking. And when I say stealth, I mean pretend you are doing something we can't discuss in this forum and hold it until nothing comes out (called a Ghost Hit)

An additional point is my flights between Munich International and DC, I stealth vaped for the 8 hour flights and ALL I got was some people looking at what I was doing. There was the occasional faint vapor that you could barely see because of the blazing sunlight, but nobody raised a concern and the attendants were too busy to care.

This guy seems to have a pretty good method www.electroniccigarettereview.com/smoking-on-planes but I wouldnt be able to do that because by the time the drink cart comes around my ears are so clogged that I can't even hear myself talk. I usually spend 90% of the flight without talking to anyone because of this, but come to think of it maybe my ears pop so bad because of being an analog smoker.

My two cents.

1) Vaping will not set off the smoke detector.. relax
2) If you do it at your seat, try to get a window. Hold it in for a few seconds to let the vapor dissipate. And for the love of god, cover the light! I'll use a wad of tinfoil and a rubber band.
3) Dont bring a complicated pv. I use a 510 and the batteries fit right in the pen holders of my bag. And only bring a small dropper of juice.

Actually....vaping will set off the smoke detector. Someone here tried it and the alarm went off. Apparently some of the smoke detectors go by air density.

Just stealth vape....I would bring an empty coffee cup with a lid on it and put your e-cig in like it's a straw...but that's just me.

I always just vape in the bathroom. On international flights i get alittle nervous about having to explain e-juice to a customs agent so i just keep it in my pocket instead of my luggage.

I just returned to Detroit from Tampa last night. On the way through security in Tampa the TSA kept announcing to please take out all liquids and put them on the conveyor belt. On the way to Tampa I just left them in my suitcase and noone said anything. Figured I'd do the same thing on this flight.

Well, with all the reminders, I got worried enough to take out all my e-juice (about 10 bottles with about 7-8ml in each) in a plastic bag and just popped it in the tray onto the conveyor belt in plain view and let it run through.

Noone said anything. I don't know what I would have said had they questioned the contents. Certainly not a matter of national security but how exactly do you explain nicotine juice as safe and harmless to a TSA agent?

I suspect that smoke detector was wacky then. I vape in the toilet like nobodies business, and i fly all the time. I dont however blow it right on the smoke detector. You could also blow it out the drain since its pressurized.

besides, since there is no smoke smell, i'd just open the door immediately and act astonished it went off. All sorts of things break on planes anyway, flight attendants are definitely used to this happening. Obvious, you should probably try to avoid that happening.

Hey all!

I will give you a few of my opinions and a few facts regarding vaping while flying from my own personal experience as a Long Haul International Flight Attendant.

Opinion- Asking a Flight attendant if you can vape is crossing into risky territory. I myself will admit that we are a unique group, and as worldly as we are, we sometimes have an issue with things that are foreign to the little bubble that we live in! There are a lot of grumpy sky cows up there that their day is made by being able to throw around their authority and make a passenger a real crab ...... that said, there are also those (The vast majority) that while amazing at their jobs, and a pleasure to be around simply would not allow it for not knowing what it really is (Despite your explanation) and what the real legalities are... When flying you are much more likely to get by with stealthing, or pleading ignorance. That is unless you have me working your flight in which you will be invited into the back galley for a miniature juice sampling. :)

As for the smoke detectors.... Ive said this a million times. THEY MOST CERTAINLY WILL GO OFF IF VAPOR GETS ANYWHERE NEAR THEM! Lav detectors can go off even if a passenger overdoes the hair or body spray in there. It causes a real mess for us cabin crew, and has delayed flights in the past.

@GrandPoobah- I assure you Flight attendants are NOT used to lav detectors going off inflight. It can signify a real emergency, and puts us into ACT NOW mode. While mechanical errors do occur, this day in age if you are seen walking out of a lav that has an alarm going off, you WILL be met by a herd of not too happy and inquisiting flight attendants. Possibly even questioned and delayed by the pilot in command/ and or ground control.

Blow your vapor to the floor, or down the sink drain if its vaccuum equipped. Or just stealth vape. As long as my passengers arent disturbing others, creating a safety risk, or just plain being obnoxious and blowing smoke rings in the cabin just because "They can" I and most other f/a's have no real issue with it.

All I can say is- If you are asked to NOT vape by a flight attendant, and you choose to continue and are caught while doing so... your day is about to go south very quickly, and vaping gets a bad name and just adds fuel to the FDA fire. Please be smart while vaping in the air.

Safe Travels,
