This is my question--tell us about your self or your "old" friends who are vapers.

I'm one of the "older crowd" of vapers, too, at 65 now. I started vaping Nov. 2013, to help me quit a 42+ year 1- 1 1/2 PAD smoking habit. Dual used until I had my last smoke in Jan. 2014. Have never had a craving for one and know I'll never smoke again. However, I love vaping and have no intention of quitting for the rest of my life.

I have a 3 friends locally who vape that are about my age and/or even older. Several more, that I helped to switch to vaping from smoking, are mid-late 30's and early 40's. Another one is 55 or 56.

I see more vapers around town though, who appear to be in the 20-30 year old range...than I do in my age group. Maybe the younger ones are just more apparent to me though, because they're usually chucking big clouds that are much easier to spot. Most of us older vapers around here aren't into massive clouds!

I'm not in the 55+ club but I have a diverse mixture of friends both over and under 55. I am really the only one that vapes regularly. A number of them smoke analogs, a few dual vape and a few tried vaping and went back to smoking.

I see more of the 55+ vaping vs younger folks but still not a lot of people.

Hookah lounges are popular and seem to be the in thing.

I am in a town with a high smoking rate and am somewhat surprised that there aren't more folks vaping.

I am even surprised at the number of young smokers I see. I was coming out of the supermarket and there were two young workers huddled together smoking. Another was walking in to work and put out their cig right before they got to the door. I probably would not have noticed this in the past but since I vape I now notice.

A younger relative in college tells me that a bunch of kids use the Juul but she does not see that many with other types of vape equipment.

Marijuana is legal in my state and I wonder if that has something to do with it.

Started smoking at 8 years old and not once was I ever carded. Never got carded for alcohol until I was 23.

I got carded for wine less than a year ago at a supermarket. LOL

Did it make you feel younger?

Not really, I just thought it was very robotic of the checkout clerk

I got carded for analogs in a convenience store and I was about to feel flattered until the clerk said, "Sorry MA'AM - we have to card anyone who looks under 30" I was older than 30 so it was a 1/2 compliment that he wasn't quite sure but I was devasted that I moved into Ma'am category!

Yes, things have changed. Back around 1966, I was in high school and had a pack of cigarettes in my shirt pocket. The assistant principal asked me about it and I told him that I had permission to smoke, from my parents (I did). That was the end of that conversation.

Our high school had a smoking area, late 70's early 80's. I'm not sure when it started or was shut down. I guess when I was in school they figured you were going to do it no matter what they do. Now they would rather try to ruin your life if you don't do as you're told.

We had a smoking area in high school (early 1970's). I did a fair amount of substitute teaching and we teachers had an area to smoke in too.(Early 1980's)

I hang out occasionally in 2 different vape shops and I'm usually the oldest person in there. The one store is run by a bunch of young men in their twenties. The first time I went in there I asked them if they had a rewards program. Regrettably they do not, so I jokingly asked them if they offered senior discounts. End of story, I have not paid full price nor have I paid sales tax in that store yet. I pay cash and don't need a receipt. Getting older has its perks.

I'm thrilled by the response to my post. Thank you

I'm a seasoned citizen as well --- and besides here at ECF, I've met several older vapers in my travels, some at B&M's. It was an older associate who helped me get inspired to give those e-cig things a try, too.

For the most part, all ages of vapers I've met have been civil, in person, with only a few exceptions.

However, I rarely meet any vapers these days in CA due to the stiff regulations imposed on Vapor and don't seek out whatever is left of vape lounges.

We had a smoking area outside too. That was in '71-'72. They figured it was better than kids smoking in the can.

We were supposed to have a slip but they never checked. I didn't have one and smoked out there regularly. My mother would have hit the ceiling if she had known. She worked at the hospital and saw many people die from smoking related illnesses.

We had a smoking area too. Back in 1963, when I was a freshman, that's where I started my smoking habit. The powers that be decided to ban smoking on school grounds after the surgeon general's report that smoking causes cancer. That was in 1964 I think.
The surgeon general's report didn't seem to have an effect on my high school. We had a smoking are. That was 1973-74.

Hi and welcome. I believe it's safe to say I am older than 55, and I am most definitely a vaper. There are some of us out there, but we are outnumbered by the young'uns. I don't mind that much, actually. I find I know more about it than they do.

I'm not over 55 but I sometimes feel like it, does that count? LOL.

I remember smoking though my mom was DETERMINED to get my dad to stop smoking, and every weekend he'd take me to the NIH so he could work on research and I played with pipetting. Cigarettes were still fine inside (except elevators) and for many months, my dad would pick out the largest "...." from the ashtray, light it, turn to me and say, "Don't ever do this... and don't tell your mother."

LOL,, okay dad, I never DID tell my mother, and I have never plucked a half smoked cigarette out of an ashtray (fortunately I married another smoker, that kind of thing was NOT necessary, mainly, I'm sure if I "needed" to I would have.

But, I DID start smoking. I think his overall warning was for that, It failed. LOL..

I quit smoking and started vaping when I was 60. I started smoking when I was 14. That's over now though, as I haven't smoked since October 2009. I still vape though and I have no intentions of quitting vaping. Smoking, however, is gone from my life for good !!!

I was near 50 when I started vaping. Same here almost 10 years of vaping, nothing about lighting up appeals to me anymore. I'm worse than any reformed smoker about being around cigarette smoke.

I'm 58, smoked for 41 years until I started vaping 4 years ago. Thought I'd never quit smoking, didn't plan to or even have great hopes, but my sister insisted that I try an e-cig...my only experience before then was with cigalikes, horrible little things. She didn't know any more about vaping than I did, but like the rest of my family, hated my smoking. I found the transition to be unbelievably easy; within a week of getting my first setup, I had completely moved from smoking to vaping.
I don't see myself quitting vaping any time soon. I started out with 24 and 18 mg nicotine, worked my way down to 3mg, but found that I was vaping more than I wanted, so went back up to 6 and 12, although I also use 3 pretty often.
I'm pretty well known in the 4 vape shops in my town. I'm the old guy with all the cool stuff...it's always funny to see people's faces when I pull out a Molly with a Haku, or whatever. It's also pretty well known that I know more than most of the people who works in the shops, I often end up telling them more about the devices they're selling than they know. I try not to show off, but it's hard to listen to people give out misinformation. Plus, being old gives you license to correct youngsters...provided you know what you're talking about. I never see other old people vaping, though, it's always these youngsters.

Just turned 67 this week, smoked ~45 years, been vaping exclusively just a couple months short of 5 years now. Yay!

I don't see a lot of public vapers, but on the occasion I'm in the little shopping center where our vape shop is, I do see quite a bit of people 40s and over come and go.

I'm impressed. I lasted a month in '09 on RN4072s (PG problem got me, but I don't know that I would've stuck with it long enough for new stuff to be invented even without a PG problem).
