Vaping problems

Alright so this is my first post. I just wanted to get some advice or information on my problem. I've been vaping for about 6 months and I own an eleaf istick and currently use an Innokin Gladius with adjustable airflow tank with my ohm resistance at 1.5. I have a few problems when using these together. My first problem is though my coil is a 1.5 ohms after about a week of use my ohm indicator on my istick reads 1.7 ohms and changes by a few notches every so often (1.8-1.5) I don't know why this is happening and its causing me to change my watt output frequently to compensate. I never go above 7 watts for fear of burning my coil and getting that nasty burnt taste as I don't want the power of the istick to overpower the capability of the tank and coil. Any advice?

My second question is my e juice is brand new and I'm getting a strong steel-like taste, I assume its from the draw I am taking. I take medium draws, not slow draws. When I do take a slow draw I get that burnt steel-like taste if I take a draw for more than 2 seconds. My average draw is about 3.5 to 5.5 seconds and I generally never get any problems. I vape a moderate amount and use it frequently in succession. So how can i fix this problem?

As some background information I vape for quality of flavor and big vape clouds as this is my setup before i move on to a dripper mod. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I own 4 iSticks and use Aero Tanks. I build my own coils and usually they are at around 1.7 ohm. The variance of the ohm reading happens to me too. Sometimes it's the ejuice after a while changes the ohm due to coating the coil, sometimes it's just the vibration of handling the MOD & Tank. It's really nothing to worry about just the nature of the iStick. I just adjust when needed ... I'm not a cloud chaser, but depending on the juice I'll vape at anywhere from 6 to 11 watts and vary up and down as needed.

As far as the metal or burnt taste ... you said your juice is new. If you mean new as in just purchased, maybe it needs to steep ... if you mean new flavor, different flavors vape differently even at the same watts. Some of my flavors start tasting burnt if I go over 6 watts where some I can vape @ 10 watts without burnt flavor

Yeah my juices are brand new as in recently purchased. I've been on a blueberry cheesecake and its a light liquid, not heavy at all. It could be the coating as when the coil heats up it could be causing a dry out effect. I noticed if I jostled the istick the reading changed. I took off my conducter (my attachment between the istick and my tank, I forgot the name of it) and put it back on as it was over tightened from not being touched and it seems to have helped some. My ohm indicator doesn't change as often. When using my ego smokjoy twist vape pen I don't get any of my prior problems. But when I use my istick I have it at 6 watts and can hit it with smooth flavor up until i hit the 4 second mark then its an immediate burnt taste. Any way I can keep it from doing this so i can take a normal hit without the sudden taste change?

Here's a video I used when 1st starting out to learn how to steep ... there's actually an art to it ... it's simple and easy, and works GREAT. (MUCH better than just putting somewhere dark and shaking once in a while) The guy that does it is known as ZVaper and I think is a MUCH overlooked Vape Video Guru. He has Hundreds of video's that are educational and not over the top. He usually puts out about 4 video's a week and covers EVERYTHING you can think of. Check it out:

The post above tells me that your setup is not wicking well, and can't keep up with your vaping style. A couple things can cause this.

The first culprit would be the pg/vg ratio of your juice. Most clearo tanks with disposable coil heads like thinner juice, with 50% or more pg. A high vg juice won't wick fast enough.

Second, it could be your airflow setting. If it's wide open, it won't create as much of a vacuum (which sucks juice through the wicks to your coil). Maybe try a smaller airflow setting.

Lastly, it could be that you just have a bum tank or coils. With mass-produced products such as what we vapers use, this happens more often than you'd expect. If all else fails, get a new tank and see if that makes a difference.

7 watts shouldn't really burn any juices at that resistance. Fwiw, you have a variable wattage device, so set it at the wattage you enjoy. If the resistance fluctuates, the device itself will adjust the voltage output automatically to retain your set wattage. You shouldn't notice much, if any, change in the way it vapes unless the fluctuations are major.

When using my ego smokjoy twist vape pen I don't get any of my prior problems ?.

What voltage is the ego twist set to? The istick is known for running a little "hot" on occasion, putting out more voltage than specified. So maybe dropping it a bit lower will help to alleviate the issue.

A few things....

First, Don't worry too much about adjusting your wattage if the Ohms reading changes on the iStick screen. The iStick is great little device, but you have to kinda of accept the fact that the readout on the screen is pretty much irrelevant compared to other mods. In fact, at 1.7 Ohms, chances are the device is firing at 11W regardless of where you set it.

Now, for the record, I don't think this chart is entirely accurate, as I do notice a difference when I set mine down at wattages below where the charts states the cut-off is,,,but none the less if you're keeping yours at 7W, it's probably running a bit hotter than that.

Also, I really hate when I'm in a forum like this and it seems like the answer to every question is "spend money and upgrade your equipment!"...but having said that, I highly recommend getting a Nautilus Mini to run on the iStick if you really want to get the best experience out of it. Every other tank/coil in that category seem unable to handle the power the iStick puts out and would frequently give me burnt hits (but to be fair, I've never tried the Innokin Gladius). Nautilus mini and iStick almost seem to be made for each other, every vape is tasty.

Now, that advice is for the burnt taste...as for any kind of "off" taste, take the advice of others here and steep the liquid a bit. I always say that un-steeped liquid tastes like perfume thrown on a tire fire. If you taste that, your juice hasn't steeped enough.

The typical clearo tank coil head has a coil wire where the ends of the wire make metal to insulator contact, and over time corrosion can cause fluctuations in resistance measurement due to contact resistance.

Changing the wattage when that happens is exactly the wrong thing to do. Wattage mode causes the mod to adjust the voltage to compensate for resistance changes.

as for the steel taste, sounds like when you take a 'slow' draw, the coil is getting hotter than usual because of the low airflow; maybe you need to just use lower wattage if you want to take a slow draw.

I read, No first hand knowledge, that the Istick uses Mean regulation not RMS as the majority of mod builders do. This type of regulation from my experience with other regulated mods (vamo) is much more prone to create burnt vapes at low wattage settings.

The Mean regulation of the Istick is the reason I will never own an Istick in it's current configuration.
