Got to thinking about how the vaping lingo's probably changing fast, with numerous variations in play. We all know terms like personal vaporizer and cartomizer. But when you're talking to others beyond this forum, especially curious friends and family, are these the words you use or are others taking over? For me, the latter.

My wife, especially, likes to keep it simple, and I'm happy to oblige...

a personal vaporizer = a vape (plural vapes)
a cartomizer = a filter or a flavor
vaping = vaping
a battery = a battery

That's about it for us. Boring, I know. Words like mod and pg/vg are off-limits, equal to cussing or technical jargon. I also deliberately outlawed the use of e-cigarette early on to get folks out of that mind-frame. The other few terms above work well enough for me. What about for youse?

I want smokers to start vaping instead of smoking. Smoker know smoking and cigarettes. They might be interested in e-smoking and e-cigarettes. They could care less about vaping and personal vaporizers.

In terms of target market, and also in terms of educating the public and representatives, e-cigarette and e-smoking are the only terms that really matter.

Totally agree with you there. In trying to turn my grandmother on the e-cigarettes she certainly wasn't hearing the term personal vaporizer. However, when I find myself in a group of anti-smoking nazi's (pretty much everyone I work with) I use vaping and personal vaporizer simply because they seem to be offended by anything that sounds like smoking or cigarette (of course none of them see me blowing big clouds of pepperment scented vapor in my office at the end of the hall). Then there is the one guy I work with who thinks the whole thing is BS and that I didn't really quit smoking because I am still inhaling nicotine. After a much heated debate about how if I was getting nicotine from a patch or gum he would have a whole different opinion about my accomplishment I pretty much told him it is too bad there isn't a product out on the market that would make him any less of a d-bag and walked away.

Ok I am going to make a list of terms:

PV=personal vaporizer aka electronic cigarette
ecig=electronic cig
ButtPlug= end with the long tip in the middle
Condom=part that goes over mouth
PT=passthru
atty=atomizer
carto=cartomizer
batt=battery
Stealth vaping=consealing your vapor

Those are the ones I can think of and I hope you guys can add more.

Makes sense that the marketing focus begins with what smokers know (smoking cigs). Then after folks begin vaping, some like me want to erase memories of their old smoking habit, and new vocab can help do that. Smoking cigs suddenly seems so stinkin primitive!
