I am very much from the us and what you say should be true but we all know the government or shall I say those who claim to be have been controlling our lives while the rest of us suffer and seem to say "please sir, may I have some more".
IMO EVERYTHING should go to a vote of the people but it doesn't some ..... supposedly votes on our behalf most of the time and as much as we beg and plead with these idiots they do what they want.
We try to vote for people we think will do thing how we prefer only to realize we've been lied to and stabbed in the back over and over again.
I can go on and on and open a bigger debate but the point is we should be the government but if you look at reality we are not. and my post only shows that I believe our elected are severely overstepping their bounds.
Your words are the hammer, and the truth is the nail.

I find this thread a little offensive but unlike others, I'm a big boy and I can handle to be offended. I don't expect you to stop on my account.

As smokers, we watched for years as our rights were eroded to zero. We watched as studies on the dangers of second hand smoke were manipulated and our right to smoke outside in public was eliminated. We watched as our right to smoke in our own home and car was eliminated. We figured if we just nodded our heads and went along with it, the ANTZ would eventually be satisfied and leave us alone. Well, we know how well that's worked out.

Now the same thing is happening to vapers. We are treated as smokers, even though we don't smoke. We are on the verge of our equipment being banned while the poison we switched from is still actively sold and taxed. We are told we should be concerned about second hand vape when studies show that there is no discernable health threat to second hand vape. We are told by supposedly educated health commissioners that if it looks like smoking it must be the same as smoking.

Of particular interest was the incredible scientific insight provided by a mouthpiece for tobacco Free Kids, regarding the use of e-cig. "if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and talks like a duck, it must be a duck".

Yes. That is the deep scientific thesis that was brought forward as a reason to ban public vaping at a recent NYC council meeting discussing e-cigs. This is the thinking of our public health officials. We are told that if we want to stop smoking we must either purchase over-priced ineffective NRT treatments or extremely expensive and hazardous anti-depressants known to cause depression and suicidal thoughts.

And with all this garbage, we have our own people who would ask us all to hide in the shadows as if we are bad people and hope the nice folks "who know better" will allow us to vape as long as we don't bother anyone. I've been down that road before. I know where it leads. That is why I won't go down without a fight this time.

If you have a problem with vapor...deal with it. God knows I have to deal with the old bag who bathes in cheap purfume, the guy who bathes once a week whether he needs it or not. the guy with the annoying laugh, or the potbellied middle aged guy at the beach in the speedo. You moan and groan about a room full of vape and then go outside into the smog and pollution that is a normal part of your everyday existence. If you're that concerned, buy a surgical mask, I don't mind.

If you can construct a half way logical platform on how e-juice that starts out made with materials that are all on their own considered non hazardous suddenly becomes poison once it is vaporized and mixed with the CO2 in my lungs then I'll listen to you. If you simply are offended because you see some white clouds coming out of my mouth, then deal with it, and look the other way. I guarantee you that if you go to a restaurant with a case with the sniffles, you are MUCH more of a public health hazard than I will ever be with my e-cig....(unless I have a case of the sniffles too...)
Your words are the hammer, and the truth is the nail.

I don't see any need to apologize. I think we're all adults here. I may not agree with everything you say, but I will defend your right to have and voice your opinion with my life.

I will always speak out against people who use irrational and alarmist arguments not based on scientific fact to try and limit my freedom to enjoy life as I see fit.

I am 100% for independent, peer-reviewed studies regarding e-cig use. I am also 100% for having quality controls in regards to the ingredients used in pre-mixed e-juice. I also believes that e-cigs should not be sold to minors, but that is the extend of it.

What I am completely against is apples to oranges comparisons of e-cigs to smoking tobacco simply because the delivery method of the devices appears similar.

Look at these instructions:
- Inhale deeply into back of throat or puff in short breaths
- As you inhale or puff through the mouthpiece, nicotine turns into a vapor and is absorbed into your mouth and throat
- Use longer and more often at first to help control cigarette cravings.

Sounds like the instructions for a typical e-cig...Right??!! This should be banned anywhere that smoking is banned Right??!! This could be a gateway to youth smoking Right??!!

Wrong... These are the instructions for the Prescription Nicotrol Nicotine inhaler.

Does the NYC Department of Health or Chicago Department of Health or any other government entity consider this as part of their "ban"?

Prescription NICOTROL® Inhaler (nicotine inhalation system) | Safety Info

Looking at the nicotrol inhaler and an e-cig is a much more apples to apples comparison but no one is considering to ban this product in public places. On the contrary, I am encouraged to use this product ANYWHERE as long as I keep it out of the reach of children.

If you are looking for hypocrisy, this is where you find it....
It's as if you were born with a hammer in your hand.

Here's a thought I've had and maybe it's stupid, but let's say I still want nicotine and I still want to vape. What would stop me from buying 0 nic juice and putting a patch on my arm? I don't want to support BP in any shape or form but suppose we are forced into that decision? Can the government and BP/BT actually outlaw flavored juice with no nicotine? I should hope they cannot but I fear they might find some way to do it.
You may wish to follow this thread as I head down this very road...

Anyone who wears Axe annoys the crap out of me. But it is their right. I am not arguing vaper's rights or anything. I just think the argument that cologne/perfume is allowed so should vaping is laughable. And I am sure a lof of people who make that argument wear some sort of cologne, perfume, deodorant, etc.
You want to know what really funny? As in hilarious?

Air fresheners are almost certainly far more "poisonous" than anything we will ever exhale.
Same goes for scented candles.

Yes, it may be hilarious, but somehow it doesn't make me laugh.

I was gonna write some more, but p.opus covered all the points:

"God knows I have to deal with the old bag who bathes in cheap purfume, the guy who bathes once a week whether he needs it or not. the guy with the annoying laugh, or the potbellied middle aged guy at the beach in the speedo."

Freedom and liberty does not mean you can't do something because you may mildly annoy someone. If we banned everything that mildly annoys or offends certain people, we would not be left with a whole lot. It's like saying you can't bar b q in your backyard because your neighbor is a vegan and doesn't like to smell burning meat and don't want to second hand ingest dead animals and traces of carbamoxide, oh well. Or maybe the folks on the subway don't like the smell of indian food you brought for lunch, too bad.

I agree with being courteous but standing for our rights. We are NOT smoking. We all have been conditioned to the anti-smoking way of thinking so the ANTZ believe would should continue with that behavior while vaping, I will not.

We actually had this happen in our neighborhood. A young couple, both school teachers moved in and told all the neighbors that she was pregnant and that the neighbors would need to stop BBQing and smoking in their own backyards! We live less than a mile from Lambeau Field and just laughed at these demands. Considering that with tailgating for the games we knew it was only a matter of time they would move out. After one season in the neighborhood they were gone, gone to teach their child how they saved it's life by moving away from the evil air polluters.

During the last summer, my neighbor was using a smoker to smoke up some meat.
It was a hot day, and our windows were open.

The wind was blowing all of the smoke directly over the fence and into our yard.
And then it blew straight into our living room, and I mean damn near every single smoke particle.

What did I do about it?

I opened a beer and enjoyed the smell.
And that's all anyone should ever do about something like that.

Or you can close your window, if you are so offended that you can't have a beer and enjoy it.

If I were said neighbor smoking meat, I'd invite you over (as I often do with several of our neighbors) because you know what? Even a 4-5 pound pork shoulder is more than my wife and I can eat before it will go bad. Your analogy is making my hungry, btw.

Or... you could mosey over and ask them what time you should have the slaw and corn on the cob ready? :)

Regarding the vaping. I believe that comparing it to perfume and the like, i think is a bit like comparing apples and an elephant.. they are two completely different things, used for different purposes..

I live in the UK and I will go outside to vape, even though I have been told by my boss i can use it inside.. Its out of both habbit, and the fact that if i didn't vape, i wouldnt want someone next to me puffing away at intervals during the day.

When i was a horrible analog smoker, i used to get mildly irritated by a colleague who was yet to introduce me to vaping, when he was puffing away..

I've yet to have one person complain about the acual smell of vapor. Only complaints I have had are the clouds themselves getting blown into them by the wind, but usually when that happens they go "damn that smells good"

The truth is, there will always be a lot of negetivity surround vapes and people who vape, but the ones who complain seem to be ignorant and not educated about what it really is.

In short, a lot of people see it as Smoking: Part 2

And I say comparing vaping to smoking is like comparing apples to elephants.

As far as the work place goes, if the business allows it and someone complains just to complain then I bring Limburger cheese to eat at breaks and lunch, I love the stuff but most don't. Be careful what you wish for is sound advise.

Apologies ! Not for a moment was I intending to compare vaping to smoking, I am very aware they are a completely different kettle of fish !

I like the cheese idea...

Where's the part about my right to keep my large-ish 75 pound dogs? I've had dogs all my life, I would give up vaping in a second, way before I'd give up my dogs, yet it appears that almost every privately owned, as well as publically owned condo / apartment complex does not allow large dogs.

I just made a choice early on in life to fit my lifestyle to having my dogs.

I would do the same thing if vaping were important to me.

As they say, it's a free country. I have stayed all over the nation, in hotels, with my dogs, as well as found plenty of places to live. You have to find them though.

Explain how this is different?

BTW, I bet there are plenty of landlords who vape but don't allow dogs. :) (yes, I asked a few too.) Everyone likes to pick and choose their freedoms I guess.

These policies affect low-income people more than any other group.
Especially when you consider the "affordable housing" aspect.

As far as I understand it, such people happen to make up the largest percentage of the smoking population.
And I would imagine they also may often not have the ability to pick and choose where they live.

Besides, I thought nicotine use was an addiction, not a choice.
At least that's what they keep trying to tell us.

I guess they don't mind having it both ways.

Is there an array of anti-dog zealots making their living distorting the dangers of dog ownership and dog lodging?

Are there state and local laws prohibiting dogs being allowed to stay in private hotels, even when the owner wishes to permit it?

Are federal agencies targeting dog ownership to eliminate their use as pets citing unknown dog dangers, forcing dog owners to keep more dangerous wild wolves instead?
