Before I even get onto my question, I wanted to thank MistressNomad for her videos. I came onto this site this morning completely overwhelmed and not knowing where to even start where e-cigs are concerned. I chose what I want to start with and now only have to wait until payday before ordering my first kit. (I'm so excited!)

I live with two other smokers, and I have a pretty heavy habit, about 30 to 40 analogs a day, depending on if I am writing or not, and fewer when I am working away from home. I saw the e-cig adverts and I really want to see if I could use vaping as a way to get off of regular smokes. Has anyone found it hard to go from smoking analogs to vaping? My children have been really at me to quit, and I figure I get to keep the money I save on analogs and could make hubby buy his own smokes. Win-win situation for me. :p

I already love this forum, so much great info!

I don't live with smokers so I can't help with that part but I did find it relatively easy to quit smoking using e-cigs. I have tried patches, lozenges, gum, ( all nicotine replacement), Wellbutrin, Chantix, and hypnosis. None of them worked for me. On my third day with my KR808 I became a nonsmoker. I have been cig free for 9 weeks this morning. Sometimes I want a cig, but if I really think about what that would taste like its pretty easy to take a couple of "vapes" of my e-cig instead. There are some ingredients in cigs besides nicotine that people can be addicted to. So some people have more trouble than others because e-cigs only replace the nicotine(chemically speaking). I think that e-cigs ability to replicate the "feeling" of smoking is what made the difference to me. The inhale, flavor, throat hit, exhale, experience is intact. Not only that but there are some really great flavors to be tried, which is a lot of fun. Welcome to the forum. You can't go too wrong with the info in MistressNomads video.

The best therapy for me was after getting off the analogs how bad those things stink when you are around them!~Yuck I can't believe I did that for years.
After a few days of vaping I washed all my clothes and even wiped down all the shelves, counters and walls with clorox wipes.
Nasty, smelly orange-yellow film was on everything.
Your other smokers will have to go outside to smoke, I don't think you will be able to stand the smell.
Oh, and just wait until you find out how good food tastes without that coating of tar on your tongue!;)

Welcome to the forums Sapphyre,

Since everyone is different there is really no right or correct answer to your question. Some people quit right when they get there kits others it takes a bit of time. Getting a good kit off the bat for sure helps. Getting liquid in different nic strengths might be helpful too. When i got mine i had it all planned out with 18mg nic and some 12mg but what i found out is i had to go way up to 36mg to quit smoking. Really there is no way to determine what level you need without trial and error. Some 2 pack a smokers have to use 8mg to 12mg then some 10 cigarette a day smokers have to use 24mg to 36mg. So there is really no sure way to say hey get this nicotine level to start with. So my advice would be to get some Different strengths at first to find out what works for you.

Having another smoker around might make it more difficult. After a week or so when you get your smell back it is going to stink. Maybe you can make him go outside to smoke or who knows when he tries your PV he might decide to get his own if he likes it.

I bought my first ecig kit in June, I've smoked 3 cigs since then and they were nasty tasting. The best advice is to get a decent starter unit, one that's recommended by the majority on here. The units MistressNomad suggested in her videos, the KR808 and the 510 are the 2 most recommended by most people on here, and for good reason. They are good and they work, and they're not too expensive. As suggested above, get some juices in different strengths because you won't know what works for you until you try it. I'd also get a few different flavors. If you work it right you can be vaping in about 3 to 4 days on a good machine and it'll cost you about the same amount of $$ as a carton of cigs, but you'll be set for a couple of weeks. Here's a link to the videos MistressNomad made, they're well worth watching if you haven't done so already: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/new-members-forum/120044-i-made-videos-newbies-particular-broke-newbies.html

I read a lot, chatted a bit, and when my husband woke, I told him what I had been doing and told him flat out I was quitting. He told me to get him an e-cig too! I could have fallen flat on my face.... So in a week, I am ordering everything and going for the gusto.

Thank you all for some great advice and some really wonderful encouragement. I am VERY excited now that he is going to quit with me! Now that leaves my mom....

I live with 3 household members who smoke analogs. I quit the first day vaping. Started with an E9 type and progressed to a Tornado/eGo. I bought (3) 510's for my family but they still smoke. Smelling their cigarettes actually is now nauseating to me. If I can only get them to vape all the time and give up those coffin nails.

Others have posted this and I agree based on my own experience. Don't get in a hurry to quit smoking cigarettes. Just let it happen in its own time. For me that took about a week. I didn't get my first kit with a mind to quit. I got it as a possible alternative when traveling in non-smoking environments. Nonetheless I smoked my last cigarette a week after my 510 kit arrived.

I don't live with smokers but travel frequently to places where people are smoking in close proximity. After 40+ years of smoking I thought this would affect my resolve to stay away from smoking. It's suprisingly had the opposite effect. I now really don't like the odor at all or anything associated with smoking. Your experience may vary but picking up a pv was the only thing that ever worked for me and I'm almost 6 months without a cigarette. Good luck.

Way to go on educating your hubby! I'm sure it will help with both of you quitting at the same time. I agree with the others to get a good kit to start off with. My hubby and I made the mistake of not doing enough research before buying our kit and we're paying the price with receiving faulty batteries and having to send them back to be replaced. Believe me, it's pretty much impossible to quit analogs when you only have one battery each and the ones we have take about 4 hours to fully charge! Next month we'll be ordering a Tornado/Ego for me to use and he'll stick with the ones we have for now. We're on a limited budget right now so we can't go all out like some people can. So, for now I'm chomping at the bit and trying my best to figure out a way to make this month fly by so I can get my new kit! LOL

My first 3 weeks of vaping, I was living with a smoker.

And I quit completely the first day I got my kit, as I mention in my video.

His smoking really didn't stop me too much. I just didn't go on the porch, where he smoked. I vaped in my room, because you can do that with e-cigs! :D

And after a week or two, the smell of him smoking was actually so terrible to me that it wasn't tempting at all. Bleh.

Going to vaping with smokers around can be done.

Congrats on making the choice and getting the hubby to go along with you. If you need any help or have any problems or more questions you can always search or ask in here.

Hi sapphyre, just wanted to say congrats and share this with you.

I smoked for 48 years, hubby for over 25yrs. He began chain smoking two years ago and the house reeked of stale smoke. Our kids are grown, and complained every time they came over. We sent for our starter kit (kr808d-1) and decided the day it arrived to smoke only outdoors. I never intended to quit smoking, but one week vaping and I was off cigs. Hubby is still smoking, but is vaping at night, or when he doesn't want to make the trip out to the garage.

I feel better, the kids and I notice a huge difference in the smell, and hubby has at least cut down. I don't crave analogs at all, even when I'm outside with him while he smokes.
As to cost, definitely cheaper... my biggest problem is I want to try every flavor I read about...LOL.

My husband smokes and we had our 'routine' we'd go out in the garage together or sit on the back porch together...I smoked about 25 a day....him too....BUT I got my kit, juiced it up, vaped and haven't looked back, I do NOT even get ONE urge to spark up an analog, I DO notice how when we turn in for the night, he has gone out for his smoke and I have vaped my last in bed...LOL...he comes in and ICK...I couldn't BELIEVE I use to smell like that, THAT is an eye opener!....The bonus is as a writer, you can vape on your computer...LOL...so be prepared to be on a vape fest when you 1st start out...LMAO...(as I'm writing and vaping) It is a relaxing feeling for sure! Much success to you and if you DO end up sparking up a few in between, don't beat yourself up, we are all DIFFERENT in the way we handle the evil analogs!

I was actually the last smoker in my house (I was always like, I own it, I'll do what I want) and never cared that everyone else said it made the house stink. I now know that after only 9 days of vaping.....they were right, my house stinks! I am in the process of 'washing' everything! The wallls, blankets, clothing and am going to repaint and have the carpets and furniture professionally cleaned to get it all out! My goal is to have my house smelling like those wonderful stores that sell the primitive items and all the candles, that warm homey smell! 20+ year smoker of a pack a day and quit without a second thought with vaping after trying patches, gum and pills.

Before I even get onto my question, I wanted to thank MistressNomad for her videos. I already love this forum, so much great info!

I never get tired of seeing new-vaper enthusiasm. :D

I also live with two smokers, affectionately nicknamed Smokestack No. 2 and Smokestack Jr (I used to be Smokestack No. 1, at a pack-n-a-half to 2 pks a day). My decision to at least try the ecig (not expecting much, mind you) was due to a recent 6-month worsening of my pulmonary function: new-onset COPD with a sudden need for daily inhalers. I smoked for almost 31 years.

Even with two people blowing smoke in my direction (which at first was somewhat tempting), I managed to quit the day my eGo arrived. I only fell off the wagon one time due to stress, at about the one-month mark, and that analog felt more like a punishment than a reward.

My best advice is to not let gear or juice frustration ruin it for you--there is a learning curve as well as a quest for that perfect juice. For me, getting my lungs back in that first week has been more than enough motivation to keep at it. :)
