Out of all the people i turned on to vaping [ 20 - 30 ] they all went back to ciggs except for one. Am i doing something wrong? they will vape all day in my house. [ no smoking in my house go out side to smoke ] then by the end of the day or when they leave they just light up again. When i ask them how did they like vaping i get told that it is easy to just light up a cig.I don't know maybe i should give up trying to convert people and just let it be.

Not your fault, everyone has to make up their own mind on vaping and my guess is that these folks were just not ready to quit the analogs...You are correct that vaping is not for everyone so don't beat yourself up over it and who knows some of them may come back to vaping..Just my opinion..

You have to want to give up smoking for it to work - they obviously are not there yet... They will be someday and will look back and kick themselves for not listening to you when you tried to get them to convert...

I agree "they are not there yet".

Who knows, the fact that OP introduced them, some might end up vaping when they are "ready".

Good job Mr. Wrench!

Guaranteed, their watching to see how long you stick with it. :2cool:

The realization of health risks hasn't struck them. When you finally admit that cigarettes are going to do you in, you get more serious about quitting or turn to an alternative.

Use this tactic. Challenge them to vape every time they want a cigarette. Chances are, they will find that they cut down so much on tobacco that it surprises them. Most of us who didn't completely quit, drastically cut our cigarette use to almost nothing in a short time.

From my limited experience, the only ones that have stuck with it are the ones that have known someone other than me that was successful. It's still very new in most circles. Also, from my experience there has to be a reason to give it a solid chance. I had to get through a full non-smoking week. By then I knew it would work for me. No one I've ever heard of became a smoker without sticking with it, for whatever reason. And no one will let it go without sticking with it.

You've done well by introducing an alternative and you'll continue to do well by being a long-term example that it isn't just a fad. When they see that you don't go back to the analogs, and when they take notice that your actions and activities are no longer guided by whether or not smoking fits in, and when they see you are healthier and happier, some will come back and ask more questions . . . and some won't.

Keep being a shining example!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wrote just last night (somewhere else entirely), that it's hard to set a good example without giving up the timeless tradition of being a bad influence. I guess that sort of applies to what I've been doing with the e-cig. Friends may be watching to see if I put the analogs down for good (I haven't) before making the attempt themselves. Ultimately though, all any of us can do is plant the seed for someone else, then go back to water & weed our own garden. I need to be doing this myself, for myself.

After >52 years of smoking tobacco I saw someone vaping a cig sub. This, while waiting to be called for a jury in the courthouse. Never got called, but chased that vaping sob down to find out what the heck he was a suckin on. That was a year and a half ago, or more. Haven't smoked a cig in >10 months. Called for jury duty, luckiest day of my life. Who'd a thunk it? JMHO

Cheers,

Most people aren't going to be guilted/convinced into switching, they've been there, with all the smokers, while your vaping listening to you defend your device and your choice. I've heard it all, the BS FDA rubbish regurgitated, the "ooohhhh it's pure nicotine!!!!!!", "that looks like a dildo", "but you're still addicted, you're no better than us".....blah blah blah.

At the end of the day, people have to want it for themselves.

In my small town, there's been a recent flourish of ecig interest, much of it having to do with my 13 months of easy success. For the last year all of them repeatedly told me how they were going to quit yet again, with patches, gum and an iron will...lmao.

Those who want to switch will, the rest can kiss my you-know-what.

I had no idea that ecigs existed until one day I saw a paid Google ad entitled, "The Truth About Electronic Cigarettes". I knew it was probably a marketing ploy, but clicked it anyway. It was a video based web page about a fictitious news organization who assigned a smoker to investigate electronic cigarettes as being a hoax. She went in as an investigative reporter and signed up for a free trial, got her free ecig, and started using it. She discovered that her desire for smoking slowly disappeared.

Her colleagues notice that she wasn't smoking cigarettes anymore and they all bet that once the trial was over she would start smoking again. She didn't. Soon, her coworkers were signed up for the same program.

The catch was that the web site wanted your credit card number so that they could continue to ship you pre-filled cartos for the rest of your life and charge your card. I started searching Google again for ecigs and found ECF. The rest is just history.

If they bought a kit, chances are they'll come back to it once they get the urge to quit cigarettes.

It's all up to them though. You can't expect to "convert" someone. Nor should you even try. Ever been out enjoying a cigarette and had a non-smoker walk up to you and tell you how bad cigarettes are for your health and that you should stop smoking? Like you don't know yourself? It's annoying, rude and certainly isn't something that might convince you to stop smoking.

All you can do inform your friends; the rest is and should be their choice.
