Dr put me on a new medicine and I slept like a baby last night, pain was way down, but I woke up feeling like I was hit by a train or two

Ive had lots of pain for years but over the past 11 months every joint from elbows to fingertips on both hands hurt so bad they keep me up all night. when I do sleep im up every hour cause my arms fall asleep to the point of hurting and even just touching a coffee cup handle burns like I put my hand in an open flame. and the pain dont let up during the day. this is the first med that has worked even a little. I told the dr I do not want any narcotics cause I dont wanna be a zombiethe rest of my life

Spinal stenosis. It was impinging on the spinal chord. She had a spinal fusion done in November and has been better since. Can't say that's what it is, but it might be worth bringing up to see if you can get a referral to a neurologist.

Slow. I'm so sorry you're going through this. Is the pain specifically in the joints? Or does your skin feel like it's on fire? If it's the joints, I'd say it sounds like bursitis. But if you're experiencing a widespread burning and pain with a simple touch of the skin, I'd say it sounds more like fibromyalgia.

Another thing that comes to mind is shingles. I don't know how old you are, but there is a shingles vaccine that's recommended for people over 50. Shingles an inflammation of the nerves that will not cross the midline of the body (it's either on one side or the other). When the vaccine first became available, a lot of people were having systemic reactions to it, that caused their nerve endings, especially around the upper torso, shoulders and arms, to become hypersensitive.

My 17 year old son was born with a kidney disease, and has been on dialysis for a year, now, after his body rejected the first transplant. Since his immune system is compromised, he gets shingles a lot. But, it's not recommended for him to get the vaccine because of the aformentioned potential reaction.

But if you're experiencing a widespread burning and pain with a simple touch of the skin, I'd say it sounds more like fibromyalgia.

The burning is any spot on my hands and arms when ever i touch something warm. even touching wifey at night feels like it burns me. doing dishes dont happen any more, showers are cold. The joints hurt real bad. I am trying to talk my drs into looking at fibro but this new pain dr does not want to go there. I've had a lot of tests and am due for a lot more. my sister has fibro and my mon has arthritis in over 90% of her body. they both live on narcs and I see how they are, so I am trying to stay away from them. I have had shingles b4 in my eye no less. that is not fun either

Have you seen a neurologist? The heat you're experiencing definitely sounds like a nerve issue. Possibly stemming from some type of compression or stenosis of thoracic or cervical spinal nerves?

I hear you about avoiding the narcotics, too. It's good to manage the pain, but the zombie-like side effects and addiction risks take away from any quality of life. I hope you find some relief soon, Slow.
