They were a hard candy with some fizzie stuff inside. I gave one to my Boss at work one time and told him NOT to bite it... well, he didn't listen and ran to the bathroom to spit it out, thinking I was trying to poison him!!! LMAO!!!

Thinking back, I was working there in about 1974, so they had already been around for a while...

When I was searching for this stuff online,
I saw a guy that had a COMPLETE collection of the boxes... LOL!!

From the Wikipedia:

World-class illustrators became a part of the Zonkers phenomenon. Airbrush artist Charlie White illustrated the front of the Circus box while Seymour Chwast’s work decorated the rest. White also illustrated a giant Zonkers circus poster, inspired by more of Katz’s copy. The poster was offered on the circus box for “$2.95 to include shipping, handling, and profit.” The circus box ended up being displayed in the Louvre in Paris.

Remember when...

Thrifty Ice Cream cones were 5 cents a scoop??? :D

And the ones at Sav-on were 10 cents!! Then along came Baskin-Robbins at 18 cents and we thought that was highway robbery... LOL!! Heck, we could go to Taco Bell and get a taco or Bell Burger for 18 cents... REAL food!!

And their weird flat scoopers...

This 'slightly used' one sold on eBay for $95!!!
(and I saw a new one going for $165...)

Actually, those scoops were ingenious, because they always gave the same size scoop, and they were less likely to fall off the cone... :)
