They make clear ones that work pretty well in the tongue.
The one drawback is that you really shouldn't put anything that's not surgical stainless until it's healed (a month or two). You also shouldn't change jewelry during that period either.

On a side note, I've been looking over my Facebook friends list this afternoon ... if I can ever afford to travel again, lots of places I will have local tour guides. One big benefit (to me at least) working at Disney ... we get a lot of international interns in for a semester or two, and as such I get to expand my list of countries where I "know someone local" as it were.
