Hey all,

Got my first Variable Voltage...doesn't really qualify as APV..but it's an Ego/Kgo VV. Anyway, did you guys find yourselves when you first moved to vv, that you tended to stay low volt? I seem to stay between 3.0 and 3.8...and I can go to 6. It just seems either too harsh, or even slightly burnt in the upper end of the spectrum. These are on a 2.8ohm stardust, which isn't that "hot" of ohmage. What you guys think?

On a 2.8 ohm load - you should be able to push it more.
3 volts in a little over 3 watts - that is a CRAP vape - if any at all.
A 2.8 ohm load should be able to vape at about 4.7 volts or so - nearly 8 watts.
Possibly your taste - and that is cool - but sounds to me that something is wrong here - not feeding juice.

Target range for a decent vape is at LEAST 6 watts (and - it's a terrible vape imho).
3.8 watts at 2.8 ohms is a little over 5 watts.

I agree with Draconian. Something is wrong, most likely insufficient wicking, poor coil-to-wick contact, or possibly too much PG. 3V is definitely too low. Even 3.8V is rather low.

Another possibility is the Kgo is actually outputting higher volts than its screen suggest. Maybe the screen is displaying VAVG or even VMAX instead of VRMS. If you have a multimeter with RMS, you can try measuring its output to either eliminate or confirm this.

Maybe someone with a Kgo can chime in?

I've seen pbusardo measure the voltage outputs on the kgo, and they were actually spot on...maybe I'm just a wimp, and don't care for thick vape. I can turn it to 4.7 and handle it, sometimes even taste ok...but I guess I just prefer lower. Hm. I don't think it's a problem with my ego because I have two, and they both handle the voltages the same.

Right from the start, I'll say that I'm not a fan of clearomizers for my personal use. To me, they give a harsh vape, often making juices taste burnt. This is on an Alsmoke BB and Silver Bullet and on various V-V mods. I always order at least 2.0 ohms. I've used both Vision clearomizers and Kanger T3's -- same results.

I did order a couple of the latest versions of Vivi Nova tanks for my new vapor daughter to use on her pink BB. They were a pretty good vape, and these were 1.8 ohm. Smooth vape and decent flavor production.

I am using the same type of battery for the first time tonight and have a DCT 3ohm dual coil carto tank on it and if I go above maybe 4.1 I'm getting a burnt taste. I put it up to 4.8 and it was just awful. I primed the carto what I thought was pretty well, even prefilled the actual carto before filling the tank. Am I doing something wrong here? I'm getting almost no taste on my vape at 3.8v and yet above this it starts tasting burnt.

I actually noticed that the filler in the carto was getting pretty dry at the top, so I'm thinking it's not wicking(proper term? Maybe priming?) like it's supposed to, not sure what I'm doing wrong of if it's a bad carto in the tank?
Even when you properly prime a cartomizer, after several pulls the juice gets sucked down toward the connector end where the heating coil is. Even when using a carto in a tank, juice from the tank will not wick all the way up to the top of the cartomizer. So it perfectly normal for the top of the filler to look dry. As long as the filler around the coil is moist, no problems.

If you allow a cart to go completely dry, you'll get a terrible burnt taste, and the carto will be ruined. You'll never get the burnt taste to go away. So keep the filler topped off.

That's the benefit of using a cartomizer in a tank. You need not worry about topping it off because as you vape additional juice from the tank replaces what you vape from the cartomizer. And, you can easily see the juice level in the tank to know when you need to add more juice.

That's what I figured. Having some issues with the first two DST tanks I'm using already. One gives me almost no flavor with a mix of two tobacco flavored juices, one which is natural and subtle the other which is strong and similar to an RY4. This tank also sits a little crooked on either Ego battery. I can't go above maybe 4volts on this tank without getting a burnt taste either even though it's supposedly a 3ohm dual coil which I thought would handle higher voltage? I went to 4.7 at one point and it tasted wretched, I was worried I ruined the cartomizer, I forgot to buy replacements haha. But once I lowered the voltage it tasted fine again so it was just temporary.

The other one is now having trouble keeping a connection on the post I imagine, I have to unscrew it and rescrew it and mess around with it constantly to keep contact and give a good vape, although when it's working it gives off solid flavor, but not necessarily great, although it's got some BWB juice in it that's only been steeped a week or so, they tend to need 2 full weeks minimum to give strong flavor and are always more subdued, then again it's a flavor I'm trying for the first time so I can't say for sure. It does it with both batteries and the other tank works on them so it's the carto, not the battery. When this one was working good for the first couple hours I could go up to 5 before getting a burnt taste. The highest I went was 5.1, that is when I got the burnt taste and it wasn't a full on awful burnt taste, just was the obvious spot where I went too high so I lowered down to mid 4's just to be safe.

A little disappointed but I'm hoping I need to run a tank down to where I need to refill to break it in or it's just crappy carto's in the tank I will eventually replace, sooner then later.

Tomorrow or Friday I'm going to try my Kanger Protanks and maybe the X8 I got.
