Power source and batteries are kind of the same thing. As long as the dc voltage in is > 3 volts at sufficient amperage, it will work. The max voltage in is 12 volts. With a single battery in, you can adjust from 3.7 volts, down..

If you use a 3XAA battery box, the wires that are included connect to the PCB. You have to rearrange the battery terminals to make it work correctly but it's a simple procedure. Here's are step by step instructions for making a 5 volt box mod. It's very similar as far as prepping the battery box. I hope this helps you out.

why am i getting 7.1 on meter and its not adjusting when i turn wheel.
got it connected to + and - from atomizer?

Need to see a pic of how you have it wired and can maybe help more. Sometimes the no adjustment is caused by a short between pins on the IC.
