i have the Varicool box from smoktek. i understand that generally speaking, vaping at more than 10 watts or so is risking damage to the device. but its got the switching regulator...does the switching regulator basically eliminate the risk of vaping at too high of a wattage? or is there anything else at risk with wattages higher than 10?

10w would be warm i agree. i was overestimating just as a buffer. i usually dont exceed 8.5w

the main reason i was asking was because i tend to just crank up the voltage on aging cartos to squeeze the last bit of life out of them. which got me thinking. my 1.5 ohm carts could easily lower resistance and probably have. i just keep cranking up the volts because the draw is not at all too tight. i thought that the lowering of the resistance over time coupled with me raising the voltage could easily bump me into the unsafe range.

but its good to hear that my regulator is prepared to shut down if it needs to. i dont want to damage my box over a two dollar carto. but i also dont want to get into the habit of tossing my cartos prematurely.

Vaping at 10w seems rather warm to me unless we're talking about dual core, at any rate the regulator will shut down if the amp or watt limit is exceeded, you won't harm it.

A switching regulator it a type of electronic circuit, in this case it regulates the output to your atty/carto. Generally speaking switching regulators are more efficient than linear (another type) regulators. Witch is good, so most of your battery juice ends up powering your atty/carto. I checked the specs on your MOD, and you can crank it up as much as you like, and it wont hurt the MOD, but could possibly fry the atty/carto.

no. ive never even heard of that lol. maybe its the juice youre using.

when my cartos start to go, the tightness increases or more often than not, the coil will fail to heat up a sufficient amount of vapor.

maybe im in the minority...in fact im almost sure of it....but i hardly ever kill cartos. they seem to last f o r e v e r

Kemosabe,

My experience echoes yours. Cartos last darn near forever. All makes, all types. Yes, dual coils do seem to eventually tighten up on the draw, and that's when I pitch them, but single coils of every type do their Energizer Bunny thing.

I've read many posts on ECF over the past year where someone writes about carto life and will say something like, "I get a weak before the flavor gives out or the draw tightens or vapor production goes way down." And I think, "What? One week?" I have no reason to doubt the truthfulness of those posts, but it does make me wonder what those folks are doing (if anything) to snuff out their cartos so soon.

After experimenting with mostly CE2s but others as all I seem to be on the longer side of cart life as well. I also generally thing it has to do with the juice. I've got a juice I can only get about 2 fills out of a CE2 with before it needs cleaning. Another Juice in the same CE2, same batt, same voltage and can I get an indefinite number of fills with no drop off in performance.

i still think its the juice, but last night i also came up with another theory: backwash. if enough of that wonderful stuff gets soaked into your filler, my guess is that youre gonna go ahead and get a pretty gnarly taste in no time.

i switch flavors quite often, so the condensation/backwash hardly ever builds up. and if it does, i blow out my drip tip before much of it can run back down the walls into the carto.

im not sure if this is the problem, but it certianly could be. non carto-friendly juice coupled with some backwash might be the culprit.
