Ay guys this may be a dumb question but my mama always said the only question that is dumb is the one that isnt asked.. well better be safe than sorry..

How come all the mods that ppl make have to have vent holes? All the ecigs i've bought dont have vent holes. I dont see any on the BB which is my current one. I also covered it in wood vaneer reciently. Is it gonna blow up in my face err wat??

I think because you cant change out the batteries in the commercial ecigs That eliminates the possibility of putting non protected batteries in them. With protection chips the chances of one going into a thermal meltdown is really low. With the Mods where you can change your batteries out when dead the user could put in unprotected. I believe thats the reason you see alot of those with vent holes. Although it is quite rare for a battery to explode better safe then sorry.

On a related note, does it matter where the vent holes are located? Should they be near the terminals of the battery/batteries? Or just anywhere on the device?

Yeah it does matter. You want it to vent out the bottom , basicly away from the users face and hand so really the bottom is the best place. If one goes into meltdown the gases that would be escaping are really hot. Without any vent holes you basicly have a grenade as the pressure inside would build up till something gave. So if you have one getting really hot in your hand with no vent holes might want to throw it somewhere safe and find some cover.
