A bill (HB 59) that would ban the sale of flavored e-liquid, with the sole exception of menthol, has been introduced in Vermont by Representatives Komline, Clarkson, Krowinski, Poirier, and Till. Even though this bill would practically eliminate all vapor products and vapor retailers in Vermont, flavored cigars, pipe tobacco, and hookah products would continue to be legally available.

This is government at its most dangerous -- leaving cigarettes freely available on the market while banning the vast majority of the products that actually help smokers quit.

We've updated the Vermont Call to Action with a NEW CAMPAIGN (email and phone calls), this one dealing with HB 233, which imposes a tax at the rate of 92% of wholesale price.

Vermont House Bill 233 would tax “tobacco substitutes” (vapor products containing nicotine) at an outrageous 92% of wholesale price. This is the same rate paid on “other tobacco products” in Vermont. A similar proposal nearly passed the Legislature last year. HB233 is currently before the House Ways & Means Committee. This bill could be moved on as early as this week (week of 3/16)!

Please take action now to oppose this outrageous tax on low-risk vapor products in Vermont!

Vermont (Updated) Call to Action:

SB139 squeaked out of the House with an amendment that would impose a 46% tax on e-cigarettes as wells a ban vaping in indoor public places throughout the state. The bill is being returned to the Senate for concurrence.

Please take action now to urge the Vermont Senate to REJECT the changes made in the house.
