A lot of videos on YT explain how to slot cartos and, as far as I know, everyone does a horizontal slot. But Boge, for example, has pre-slotted cartos with vertical slots. One way better than the other or are they comparable?

Less chance of tearing an o-ring with an axial or "vertical" slot vs a radial or "horizontal" slot... less metal edge exposure.
