Totally forgot to mention, all is not lost if you don't decide to go with cartos or plan on getting them later. To get a great hit with what you've already bought without any additional expenses, this is what I do: get a cartridge and pull out the stuffing. You're essentially turning it into a tip-only for draw purposes. Then do what is called "drip". Dripping is arguably the purest form of vaping, and it will give you a nice, clean, flavorful hit with good throat hit. You directly drip 2-3 drops onto the atomizer's mesh, which will saturate the wick. Then pop your tip back on and vape. You'll get 5-15 hits before a slight burnt taste will surface, & that's a good indication that it's time to drip a few drops again to keep the wick moist. Most usually use lower res atties like 2.0's to drip but you may want to try it.

Congrats on starting to make the move. I am very new at this as well. But I can say after just a few days with no analogs it feels great. My wife tells me how much better I smell since there is no smoke smell. What I did was just get so intrenched into everything about vaping. It is like discovery something new and embarking on a new journey. Just keep trying different models and juices until you find what you like. Don't get discouraged, good luck!

Before making a purchase, I encourage you to share what kind of cigs you smoke, how many you smoke, and how you smoke them. If you smoke full strength cigarettes, you smoke them hard (as in deep drags), and you smoke alot of them, you will expect more of a throat hit than the any basic starter kit will provide, and you might consider investing in a more powerful (though not much more expensive) kit.

One example of how to increase throat hit is to order low resistance atomizers. Rather than ordering a starter kit, simply order the kit in parts:

1) eGo battery charger
2) 2 ego batteries
3) 3 510 low resistance atomizers
4) a sample pack of liquids of at least 24mg nicotine (maybe add 5ml of 36 mg strength just in case the 24mg doesn't cut it)

Welcome to the forum. glad to see you started with something with some battery life. I went through a lot of different setups before I got a 5 volt mod box from madvapes. love it, don't fell like smoking an analog at all but i still do once in a while no biggie. with an e-cig your not giving anything up but the smell of smoke, ash trays and all the bad stuff in burning tobacco.
Don't give up, you can doooo it!

The Riva came in today and I gotta say I am very excited.

Tried out Coffee and Vanilla flavors so far with their default Atomizer and Blank carts. Their default ones that shipped with the Riva were 2.2 ohm resistance. I gather from reading that may be a little weak from what I was used to.

I stuck with the same website just because I am still so new on this and am timid on mixing and matching from other places, but I also ordered SMOK TECH CARTOMIZERS that is said to have a 1.5 ohm. Along with that I also have a few more test flavors I can't wait to try out.

This is really like nothing I have ever tried before, though I'm sure you all have heard this many times before. I am hoping it is a sign of things to come but it's already been 3 hours since my last non filtered ciggy. Usually I have one about every hour.

Only worry I have is that I really have a nicotine headrush. I have no idea if that is because I have been trying this out too much, or the fact that I got 24mg E-juice. With how harsh I liked my real smokes I assumed 24mg would be what I needed… maybe I overestimated.

In any case, thank you all again for all the help. I am sure I'll update some more when my carts come in and I get to try it out.

Oh … and here is a quick show off picture of me and my Riva :p *riva.jpg

GOOD STUFF BUD.

Yeah, the nicotine head rush could be a number of things - I got mine because vaping was so damn convenient that I found myself vaping much more than smoking. I'm hovering around 12-18mg now, which is my comfort zone. You'll find yours in time, believe me.

Regarding the "weak" perception, that's a combo of the 2.2ohms & the fact that you're using the cartridge system. The cartos you ordered are exactly what I recommend. It will be miles more satisfying of a vape, trust me.

Keep us posted.

Awesome! It's pretty easy to OD, especially trying new flavors and learning how hard to draw. With my Ego, I find a long, slow draw is better than deep drags. I smoked 2 PAD and thought I'd want 24mg but found that 18mg is better for me. I tend to vape more often than I smoked - instead of a cigarette every hour, I vape every 5 minutes. My husband calls it my crack pipe but he is really glad that we're rid of the ashtrays and lighters and the smell. I wish you all the best on your journey. I am finding these forums are a fantastic support group, even when I'm just reading about the experiences of others and the replies of the vets to us newbies. Keep us posted on your progress!

54 year old female who had been smoking all her life however my husband had a heart attack and felt I had to quit for him. Never thought I would. Found this site with all its wonderful people and they suggested the Ego. Bought it with some suggested juice. Was ok however on more research on this site found a juice called Boba's Bounty. That with the Ego not only got me to quit but my husband to quit also. Love the Ego but recently bought the Kgo from Hossier ecig. Ramps up the flavor of the juice a bit. You tube has a lot of great reviews onecigs andd juices.

Hi Honigschmidt, and welcome! I can't offer much advice on equipment but you're in good hands here.

Happy Anniversary! My husband and I will be celebrating our 13th anniversary next month and I can't tell you how many times I thought it must be so awful for him to have to smell me and of course kiss me. Just try to focus on the fact that she loves you unconditionally and that you're taking the steps for a better you which also benefits her :) I wish you all the best on your new journey.

After a 30 year+ smoker, I am finally switching over to vaping, and I LOVE IT! I work for a doctor and you can imagine how terrible it must be for patients to have their medical assistant smelling like a bar-minus the beer and stale pretzels. I would drive to work with the windows open (yes, even in winter) to try to 'air out' before going into the office. I have to park a block from my building, so at lunch time I would walk in the rain, snow, sleet...just to have my nic-fix. Hubby brought home an e-cig and after trying it, I did quite a bit of research and found one that I like and after a little hic-cup of ordering a lower mg than I should have, I am proud to say I am *sorta* 3 days analog free. I had one today and it really did taste like I imagine an ashtray would taste like if I actually would lick it. I smoked ultra lights, but a pack a day or better, so this last order was 24mg. Almost too strong, but its getting me over the withdrawl hump. I use the lower strength 8mg for my passthrough since I chain-vape at my desk. My boss forbids vaping in our office, so I steath vape in one of the bathrooms in the building, but I find that a couple of hits holds me until I go home at the end of the day.
One of the perks I've found from vaping is that I kint and I don't have to keep putting down my project to go out for a smoke. I can grab my PV, take a few puffs, then go back to my knitting. No more pausing TV or a movie to "go out for a quick smoke", no more dodging raindrops to go out to my garage for a smoke. Isn't it amazing how many smokers won't smoke in their own homes? But I can vape to my little heart's content.

Sorry for rambling.

I just read through this thread and Honigschmidt and brianishiwa, your posts especially brought tears to my eyes. Very passionate and heartfelt. I, and many others here can totally relate and have found such a better life with e-cigs and vaping, and such wonderful guidance and support with this forum. I am still new (over a month cig free!) and couldn't have done it without the information here, and as you have seen, such excellent advice. Good luck to you Honigschmidt and congratulations.

Lil follow-up from me:

It's been 4-5 days since my Riva showed up. Also the Carto's and extra test flavors arrived on Saturday.

I mentioned this ever so slightly on a past post, but the last time I tried to quit smoking was around 10 years ago. People say quitting smoking for those who are addicted is much like a heroine or coccain addict trying to quit.

There was a scene in an old 90's movies called "New Jack City" where a very young Chris Rock played an addict trying to quit. It always stuck in my mind because of his convulsions, sweating, heavy breathing, and overall he portrayed really well that even though he was trying to get past his addiction, it was the only thing on his mind, and was too much for him to handle. It was a here today, gone tomorrow type movie, but that scene always stayed with me.

I always portrayed that scene with my own attempts at trying to quit. For the months I tried to stop, smoking was all that was on my mind…. and it never left. Day after day my stomach would churn, I would sweat profusely, and all my whole body mind and soul wanted a cigarette.

Even with the Patches and Gum, there was something I really really needed in that smoke. This monster of an addiction was too big for me to handle and I finally just gave up and swore never to try this again. As sad as it sounds it felt like a long lost love had finally returned when I took my first Puff, and I promised her I would never try to leave again.

Since my Riva and E-liquids showed up I have only had 2 cigarettes, and the last two days have not had one. Granted, not much time has passed, but this is the least I have smoked for a very very long time, and I am really proud of that…. heck my wife is even proud of that.

I can only see it going forward from here. I'm excited when I wake up to Vape Away, it almost feels like I am cheating the "Quitting system" somehow. So many here have said how the E-cig was the answer they were looking for when all other options failed. Like the Holy Grail for those wanting to quite analogs. I was apprehensive and suspicious to say the least.

But doing this myself, I realize how real this all is. As sappy as it sounds it's like the world opened up just a little larger to options I closed off decades ago. Resigning yourself to your addictions is an empty place to be in. It's where I lived for sooo long. The day is just a tad bit brighter now, and I can only see it getting brighter.

This isn't a farewell well eulogy. I'll still be here reading up on everything, and putting in my two cents for what it is worth. But I wanted to give you all one more big "Thank You" for the support and knowledge here. I think without it, I would have passed off E-cigs as a gimmick and as a passing fad. You guys (and gals) I am sure are a big reason why people give quitting another shot, and it gives them the strength to try again when they thought it was impossible.

Keep up the good work all! I will also.

That is awesome to hear!!

You will notice too as some time passes that you begin to like real cigs less and less. Even after a few days of vaping, a cig doesnt taste like it did before. Your tastebuds will come back and thats when a lot of people realize how bad a real cig actually tastes. Then you can really get off them for good because you will realize how good and enjoyable the flavors of your ecig are!

Goodluck with it and I wish you the best!

Going very well here as well. We started vaping about 4 weeks ago and decided to quit smoking gradually. The first week we did 4 cigarettes a day, the next 3 a day and so on. Now we are down to 1 a day and I have to admit... I don't really even want that one. When I light it up I think to myself how it just doesn't taste as good as vaping and how it isn't nearly as good as I was hoping it would be. Next week we are going to go to zero a day and, honestly, I think I'll be fine. I know there are going to be some tough times, but we are being realistic about it all. If I want one really, really bad then I'm going to have one. So far I have to say... I've not wanted one that badly. It gets better day after day. I think my physical addiction to smoking is gone... the mental addiction is holding on a little stronger than I had hoped, but I've found that with my eGo it's been a lot easier than I thought it would be.

Save yourself a lot of time and money and just buy a Provari. My second one arrives today and I have never been happier. I wasted a bunch of money on v2cigs.com and the ego t from another site. The ego is a good batt but like so many people, I had no luck with the tanks. I got tired of the dry hits and poor wicking. Throw in the leaking and I finally gave up and moved on to the provari with cartos, lava tank and ss carto tank. I have been vaping since july 12th and I feel so much better already. I try to have a cig every now and then because I never thought I could quit. My last cig was about two months ago and couldn't even finish it. Now I can't stand the smell of cigs and have no desire to ever have one again.

Good luck. Rememeber, you can give up those nasty cancer sticks like so many of us have.

Sorry to bump my first thread,

Just wanted to boast a few milestone markers from switching from Analogs to E-cigs.

1. For years upon years my index and thumb were stained very badly from all the non-filtered cigs. It looked so bad I doubted it would even go away. Very black and brown. Looked like they were stained down to the bone. After less than a month with Vaporing my fingers managed to heal themselves. I can not notice the stains at all anymore.

2. I can smell smokers and smoking areas! I didn't even know that was possible or what others meant when they said I smelt like smoke. Now I know. Mind you I have no problem with the smell of smoke, but I found it so neat when I passed the entryway to a hospital and the whole front smelled like old tar and smoke. Heck last time I was there I was smoking and never noticed anything.

So that's two milestones of a life changing. Have a great day guys :)
