EDITED:
I knew it was comming, I was defying the odds.

5 REOs ..... 8 Months ..... Used 100+ cartomizers and many atomizers on them.

Then I was talkin smack a few weeks ago about never cooking a spring ......

My Mini sits with limp spring looking so very sad.
I never ordered any extras from Rob because ...... you know ..... I like to live on the edge :)

So it will sit until I can get a new spring (and some spares)
I am sending it back to Rob today

The culprit was a brand new IKV LR 510
No it appears it might have been a bad gasket in the connector
Sorry Isaac I just assumed .... and you know what happens ......
Juiced it up and let it soak for a while.
Gave a good squonk and hit the button for the first time .......

Hmmm weird taste
Hmmmmm no more vapor
Wow my battery is rattling around

Open the door and WOW my spring is smoking and my battery just fell to the floor.
:(

Happened to me on my Grand which I sent back to Rob a few months ago...also a bad atty, but one I had been using in the old wood Reo- I had used an adapter and apparently this had done the atty in... was no fun when it happened. I thought my battery was fried too but it was fine. Anyway, Rob put a new spring and new firing pin and ignition button in it (had melted it) and all was well...just goes to show, ALWAYS test your atty before putting it on a Reo!!!

((((((((((((BH)))))))))))))))) I am so sorry to read that :( I think we should demand more from the atomizer makers when their atomizers can wreck our equipment! That is not cool!

I had my new mini for 2 whole days before my spring collapsed. I'm not quite sure what happened because the atty and battery still work fine in my box mod.

I have a dead grand too. I'm not sure what happened there either. One minute it was fine, the next melted button.

At least I can ship them both back at the same time. :)

uhhh.... so is this bound to happen to any Reo? Or is there a way to prevent this? you guys are scaring me...
Hey CJ...Its possible....its most commonly due to an adapter or atomizer/cartomizer whose center post (positive) and the outer ring with the threads (negative) come into contact with each other. This can happen because the center post can protrude too much, or screwing the atties on too tight and squishing the insulator ring or gasket too much.

Perfect, that's exactly the sort of answer I needed... it can be prevented : )

Really, it could happen with any mod... In some ways, the fact that the REO has a spring is a good thing... gives the mod something that can fail from all the heat of a shorted mod...

I'd rather replace a little spring than have something else more important fail... or have a red-hot mod with a draining battery!

Not owning a Mini or Grand in such a long time Im not sure a short can happen that way with a Woodvil. My old woody had a native 801 and a adapter cranked on so tight I barely could loosen it plus I have been known to screw in a atty pretty darn tight with no problem. Maybe I've been lucky or that particular issue is more prone to happen with Minis nad grands.

Rob would know the answer to that. :)

A few weeks ago (with a brandnew ikv 306 atty) my spring in my woodvil collapsed. I sent the atty with the mod back to Rob. The atty was in new (perfect) condition in both mine, and his opinions. Battery was just fine, and no adapter of any type was involved. It was screwed on really snug, not over tight though... Rob fixed the spring, and I have the exact same atty working flawlessly in the same woodvil... So figure that one out and let me know wth happened :?:
