I have just got into rebuildables and started using a penelope. So far i've only wrapped 3 coils, first one was fantastic, worked great for over a week, no issues whatsoever. The 2nd one I built with rolled cotton wick and was getting dry hits every 3rd or 4th hit and onwards until I let it sit for about 5 minutes.. then I'd get a good hit or 2 and it'd start to get really dry again and made me cough up a lung. I'm now on my 3rd coil and I am getting extremely weak vapor production. I have the coil rated at 1.9 ohms and even if I crank it up to 6 volts its extremely weak and mute. Barely any vapor production and absolutely no flavor.

Judging by my description, can anyone more experienced with penelope and GG mods tell me what I might be doing wrong?

1.9ohm on 6 volts is only a lttle over 6 watts which is too low. Aim for 1.5ohm or lower and a minimum of 8 watts. Also be sure to not to block the top of the ceramic cup with too much wick or else it will block airflow. Your 2nd build sound like it is not wickibg enough juice hence the dry hits.

Recheck your math. 1.9 ohms at 6volts is 18.94 watts.

I'm sure that's just some kind of mistake, but its more like 19 watts, which is quite high for most.

As far as the Penelope, I have'nt had any problems. I use 1.5 ohm ready wires, mostly with 3mm silica wick, works just fine. It's probably your cotton wick, may be to dense. Is this happening with a fully opened feed?

I second this. Cotton expands a lot more than other wick materials when soaked in juice, in my experience. Too much cotton, or cotton that is twisted up too tight will give you crappy wicking and dry hits. A 1.9ohm coil should not need more than 4.1-4.2 volts.

Also, most of my attys took at least 10-20 coils before I became adept at making consistent successful setups. Be patient, it is well worth it.

I would try to practice using a more conventional wick, like silica or Ekowool, before going to cotton, if you are new to this.
