I drive a '03 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, standard trans, huge knobby tires, a ton of road noise and vibration, and keep my Pilot in the hand that's on the gearshift to boot.

Mine doesn't come on, unless my hand passes by the heater vent on the way to my mouth :)

They've never come on touring in my wife's Montanna either. It's somewhere in the middle between my Jeep, and Terra's Nissan, in terms of road noise/vibration I'm sure.

I think that it's likely a particular frequency that turns them on, not necessarily the volume of noise, or amount of vibration.

In that case, Terraphon, it's kinda unlucky your car produces it...

I know the slightest breeze WILL turn it on though. So when all this friggin snow finally melts and I pull the hardtop off my Jeep... I'm sure I'll be equally screwed as well, LOL.

Nah...in the case of Ryan's pilot, it's all cars. My car, his camaro, our buddy Robert's suburban. They also light up rolling across a glass counter. Or if you hold them near your face and talk. Or if you barely blow on the end.

Me in the same vehicles with my Evo and Robert with his pilot don't have the same issues...Yet Steve is saying it's a NON issue.

No, it's a faulty set of batteries...period.

The Pilots are definitely sensitive and don't need to be connected to the atomizer to complete at least one of the circuits.

Blowing on the tip or on the atomizer area will definitely turn it on, as will loud noise. I was just at a club this weekend and it killed my batteries. When I noticed it do this I disconnected the atomizer as to not burn it out, but my batteries still didn't last too long, they've go on for 7 seconds, then cut-out for the 2 minutes, and repeat.

I don't know why blowing on the tip would set it off, because i thought the seal there would be better, and the air draws through the little air-holes around the atomizer, not the tip.

I still love the Hybrid though, it takes a little care, but I can't believe the vapour production and satisfaction it gives my cravings, at home the vapour even lingers around for a few minutes kinda like cigarette smoke.

Yep...they're good products. The pilot, as any 401, is a damned good e-cig and, as I posted in the other thread about this kind of issue, I don't want ANYONE to think that I'm bashing the pilot or the distributor.

I simply know there's a problem with some of the batteries and I'd like it rectified for those who have issues.

The Only model that we carry that does that is the Pilot.

Now, as far as the pilot, I have tried literally 40-45 different ecigs from
all the major ecig manufacturers. We only carry ecigs that I would
personally recommend/use ourselves. The Pilot is considered "New Technology"
and uses an electronic switch instead of the old style Pneumatic Switches in
the old batteries(901, Penstyle, Pee-Wee). It's simular to a microphone switch. So if you scream at it loud enough into it, it will turn on. It's not the best for driving with the radio up loud or windows down, but if you don't do those things it shouldn't be a problem. We have also had them programmed to hopefully lengthen the atomizer life. So yes, the Pilot is a great ecig, and highly recommended :)

hi daniel,

could you be a bit more specific with regards to the programming that will lengthen the atomiser life?

cheers

I just rolled two of my pilots across a glass coffee table (and the kitchen table, and the counter, and a bookshelf)

No lights. 100% agree, you've got some funky ones there

I'd like to know this, as well.

I know the answer to that... it's not consistent, since only two of my four batteries do it - the battery dims out, drops power when the cart is getting dry.

Kinda handy, I guess, as a failsafe. It's not consistent, since if you are taking a hard drag, it defeats it (cools the coil off too much). If you are taking a slim drag, then it doesn't work either (trips too soon) - so it's not something you can't depend on, you still have to watch your carts too.
The other thing is is this is tricky to get right, since it's extremely dependent on the coil being the exact right resistence to begin with, and the battery being -exactly- calibrated to that, so it's no shocker the function doesn't work at all on the other two batteries...

Stupid question probably, but have you confirmed this by sticking a filled cart on that battery and then having it work fine? Back to the dry cart, same problem?

I have experienced batteries that were not sensitive enough which act the same way, but I don't THINK this was the issue. They seemed to do it regardless of how filled the cart is.

rsngfrce: Yes, I have confirmed it, 100% by doing exactly what you said.
Then I went further by swapping two active atomizers between an empty and full cart, amongst all four batteries I have. That's how I found out two of my batteries ain't so smart ;-)

Terraphon: No, it's not a Pilot exclusive

It's a 401 option - notice the text on the bottom of the banner on the top of the screen:
"SMART BATTERY * Empty Cartridges? NO POWER till replace new cartridge"

Ahh...gotcha.

I see what you're saying. The statement made on the web site doesn't say it's specific to pilots but it kinda leaves things open ended...for the reader to interpret.

So saying "the pilot has been programmed to do [function]" could be replaced with "the m-401 has been etc..etc..."

Man those distributors are slick.

In the case I'm talking about, ANY noise will light them up and breathing on the tip lights them up.

Ahh okay, mine aren't that sensitive that's for sure, it takes a moderate blow to set it off, and using the Hybrid as a microphone doesn't seem to trip it either. I think I have one that works as designed then.

I would like to find a battery with a manual switch though to use in club environments (the 3 times a year I go out these days lol), and outdoors on windy days as I am not going to attempt using these inside the workplace.

"WE have had it programmed to hopefully lengthen the atomiser lifespan"

i read the word "WE" and assumed it to mean "puresmoker"........my apologies.
